I have just seriously increased my collection of MP3s (approx. 100,000). What suggestions do you all have for me to get the fullest enjoyment (i.e software). I currently use iTunes and hate it as I find it difficult at time to search for music in my collection.

What say you?

After I get done loading all this music it will be a pain to sort out all the duplicates as well, so if anyone has some suggestions on that let me know.

pretty sure winamp does that ....
like you load music ... and then in the playlist screen there is a sort option and a remove duplicates.

Have a look at this, it works really well with large libraries. I have been using it for about 6 years.

Since I would only use it for MP3s, could I get by with the Media Jukebox since it is free?

why in the hell would you have 100,000 mp3s?

only people who have that many just like to brag about how much music they have.

Could you imagine this conversation in 1990? I have 100,000 MP3 files but I need something better than Itunes to sort and delete duplicates, so can I get away with syncing my Ipod with Winamp?

I don't see why not, I have always used it as a media center. But the jukebox should be more than enough for what you would need. I moved to linux so I stopped using it less than a year ago, but it's the only thing I miss from my windows days.

I have 95GB of MP3's and that is 14,000 songs.

And there is no way in hell I even come close to listening to most of that. WTF does somebody do with 100K songs? First of all, if the MP3's are of any quality, that's gonna take up like 2 500GB hard drives.

But hey, I guess the dude likes to collect songs.

100,000? Wow.

At 3 minutes a song - average pop/rock tune - that is 2 years straight of music.

Honestly I don't even listen to music all that much, but storage is cheap so if I come across some music I will add it to the library. It just has gotten big enough that iTunes (which I only because I have an ipod) just isn't cutting it.

Some of you act like I'm collecting wives.:spit:

iTunes has a feature to remove duplicates as well.

THey are jealous. One can never have too much music.

I have a ton of CD's and actually listen to them. I do go through them and pull the bad ones. Have been checking stuff out at the library 1st lately.

Enjoy.

Kleptomania is the condition of not being able to resist the urge to collect or hoard things. :~ohyah!:

I just bought a 120gig Zune from CC, $180.00.

Everyone has an ipod and I just wanted to be different.

Plus it links with XBox360 pretty nicely.

i am the exact same way. i get music i heard and thought was decent, put it on the ipod and never listen to it again, while only really listening to about 100 of the around 5000 i have on the ipod.

i have a zune to go along with my ipod, and it works just as well. just depends on if you are a person who has to go along with the crowd or if you don't care

Oh man! You guys are all poor!

What's wrong with just using iTunes or Winamp? There are obviously some other fringe players out there, but there's a reason these 2 are the most heavily used.

And seriously, 100k songs? There's no way.

I don't have an MP3 player. Do you guys have to pay for Winamp? I know Itunes costs like 1 dollar a song or something.

Do most of you use the MP3's a lot in your car too?

actually - i think being an IT person makes me buy things that do what they do.

as for 100k songs. It's not that hard. I have one friend that is like anubis - he has TONS of metal, i have another friend that has libraries of DJ shows for drum n bass stuff. I got more hip-hop and obscure stuff - and one my one friend has lots of more mainstream stuff. Put together, that's probably about 100k worth of "tracks/songs".

I was kidding about the poor thing :) We're all poor!

100k death metal tunes would be highly impressive.

I just downloaded media jukebox, which is free, and I am loading my library. I read some good things about it, I hope it delivers.
