View Full Version : OT Am I going insane?

02-25-2009, 05:56 AM
OK, granted it is almost 5 in the morning and I am a little drunk. Well, maybe more than just a little. Fine. Whatever.

Anyways, I'm surfing the net and one thing leads to another (you know how it works) and I find myself confronted with a wiki revelation that boggles my mind. Here it is:

Mannheim Steamroller.

Who, you ask? Exhibit A:
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/68j6Ceof8QQ&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/68j6Ceof8QQ&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

So, you ask? Well, it just so happens that this is the 65th best-selling music artist in United States history (as of December 2008 and based on certifications of albums by the RIAA.) WTF. I've never in my life heard of this tripe. (The "artist(s)" anyway.) This just boggles my mind. Who in the @#$% has ever listened to this @#$%? Well, apparently a lot of people.

Obviously you have no taste in music.

My dad likes them. So does Rush Limbaugh

Have you ever seen the beer commercial with the house that has the dancing lights? That's them

Actually the beer commercial is the Trans Siberian Orchestra, and last year featured a model house rather than the "real" one seen on the street.

And the video you posted isn't the famous music house of legend.

You're thinking of the Carson Williams home. Here is their portfolio.

thanks for correcting me

Ah, no one called you a gutless drunk yet!

They are an acquired taste, and I dont like them personally. However, those that like them really like them. Not overly surprising they are that successful. They have been around a while.

Manheim's first Christmas album is epic.

02-25-2009, 09:25 AM
they are from manheim, PA

02-25-2009, 09:27 AM
Yes, you are going insane...littering and...

02-25-2009, 09:33 AM
You take issue with Manheim Steamroller at 65, yet Kenny G at 26 doesn't even phase you?

02-25-2009, 09:48 AM
and if you really want to get down to it - ozzy hasn't really had any good music after his 2nd solo album.

Who doesn't love the steamroller? It wouldn't be Christmas without them!

My parents love the steamroller. I can't say that I do. Although I do get a good chuckle every time I hear one of their songs. I can't help but remember another album in my parents collection (way back when)...

I have to listen to some Steamroller to get in the Christmas mood, every year.

I'm amazed that Creed is on that list...pure rubbish.

02-25-2009, 11:31 AM
I'm with the drunk guy. I never heard of the Manheim Steamroller either.

It's not so much that I take issue with their music, (although, it's definitely not my taste) it's that all of those artists are easily recognizable to me except one and I guess I found that really glaring. At least that is what it appears to me now that I am sober.
I'm going to go take some aspirin now.

02-25-2009, 04:04 PM
I have heard them recently while on hold with with the Proctologist.

02-25-2009, 04:14 PM
The violinist looks like BenJAMIN Franklin.

02-25-2009, 06:36 PM
I'm more surprised that Mariah Carey is in the top 20.

02-25-2009, 07:48 PM
It's sales and that's the only thing it measures. Don't pay attention to the charts, dig deeper.

02-25-2009, 08:05 PM
Manheim was usually forgettable to me. Thrilled to see Led Zeppelin as high as they are. In pure shock that Journey and Guns N Roses are above Santana and totally disgusted by the fact that Willie Nelson is on anyone's radar.

Chip Davis also wrote the music for C. W. McCall.
