The Latitude XT2 (new one) is 1 inch thick and 3.5 pounds. Basic computing functions are all programmed in there with "gestures". Unfolds into an ultra light portable laptop with a full keyboard. Going to be a blast using this thing on the go, without the need to have it unfolded to use the keyboard.

yuk ... and i think this is more like it ... That is just a lappy with the new touch screen .... nothing new ...

http://www.techcrunch.com/2008/12/30/large-form-ipod-touch-to-launch-in-fall-09/

Large Form iPod Touch To Launch in Fall ‘09 (http://www.techcrunch.com/2008/12/30/large-form-ipod-touch-to-launch-in-fall-09/)

We’ve got this from three independent sources close to Apple: expect a large screen iPod touch device to be released in the Fall of ‘09, with a 7 or 9 inch screen. Prototypes have been seen and handled by one of our sources, and Apple is talking to OEMs in Asia now about mass production.

I have a touch and they own ...

A multitouch Convertible tablet is a lot more functional and cooler than an oversized ipod... Why would you get a 7" ipod if a similarly sized EVDO tablet can do the same and double as a computing device?

I also have a touch... and it will have its place as a media player and PDA.

you know what owns? not wasting time and money on technology produced for entertainment or "convenience."

imagine all of the money pumped into making and selling you these things...
then imagine all of the money we spend buying these things...
now imagine just a fraction of that total money put towards disease research,
and another fraction put towards education,
and another towards renewable energy...

catch my drift? don't support this crap, the internet looks the same from my 6 year old crap laptop as it does from some 6 year old's shiny iphone.

Let me just say, I think I'd rather spend $2500 on something other than some fancy touch screen lappy.
Pay an extra 2 grand almost so you don't have to use a keyboard?

12" screen is to small for me so I lug this Dell Vostro 1500 around. It's a 15" wide screen. I might like an ultra portable...then again screw that cuz my next machine is gonne be a Mac.

Dell is fine but only if you have Gold level North American tech support cuz their standard package sucks eggs and it takes 20 minutes to deciper a 60 second conversation otherwise.

I have the 1500 too. Just picked up the HP 1000 (atom PC) and it is much lighter. I just leave the 1500 a home now.

You said it .... That is what sold me on Dell .... And every time someone ask about lappys I try to get them to get Dell or something owned by Dell "alienware". But here is my story ... Got this Lappy like 3 years ago with best warranty package.

I'm not Bill Gates but i know pretty much about Desktops , built all the ones I have and for Dads office ... But This Dell was my first lappy ...

So one dell my video starts acting odd with this matrix looking spam ... It would boot , and surf ... But if i loaded something complex it would all go to hell . just looked like little #s and letters that was lightly showing up everywhere ...

So i get online , go to Dell's Chat room ... They ask for a # on bottom of pc and if it will boot , I tell them i'm on it now .

They have me open this Dell proggy that lets them see my screen and control my mouse as well as me having control also... They watch as I show them what it does up till where it would crash ....

They email me steps to run a test that would require a reboot and then ask me to return to chat room and email results .

... Dead video card ....

So they give me the run down and tell me someone will CALL ME BACK in 30 mins to one hour ....

This was 8am ... hour later phone rings and it is someone local tells me they will be here AT 4pm to install new video card ....

DUDE gets here and tells me I am so lucky I got a dell , they do gateway ,hp,and dell and said dell is the only one that sends them a load of parts once a month so most likely they have the part there instead of waiting for it to ship .... AND the card would have been 470 $ before tax if i paid for it ...
GeForce 7900GS which at the time was pretty good for a lappy ...

And to top it all off a month before my warranty ran out they sent me a letter and the option to buy 3 more years for 199$ .... Yes and Yes ....
Covered to 2011 .... But they sold me till i have a problem they don't take care of ....

Boy you sure do like to generalize.

If that was all i wanted to get at, i wouldn't have written, "catch my drift?"

That last sentence implies: Here's a little bit of something, now take it and think about it, and run with it, see what you can come up with.

But if you really want to take it literally.. fine.. yes, computers also let you play games, watch movies, listen to music, touch things that react, and of course porn.. wonderful.

It all started with movies on the big screen without sound.. then we had to have sound.. fine.. but then we had to have them at home too.. but oh wait.. i just can't leave them at home now.. i have to take them with me so that i don't get bored in line at the bank... and now i have to be able to touch the screen and turn up the sound.. and you are feeding yourself a constant stream of nonsense without taking a break to really think about things..

which is why you wrote what you did.

You might think your posts on this thread are in some twisted way noble but they are two of the most ignorant posts I've read recently.

Yeah, anytime man seeks "convenience", he's wasting his time; thats why the greatest discoveries in human history have been for comfort and/or military use????

I'm sure the wright brothers should've focused their studies purely on education and medical research, god forbid they look into the notion of flight because they are a bunch of dreamers who could never get anything productive done.

Do you have any idea what moving images and sound did for the civil rights movement? How many lives its saved? Do you have any clue what computers and TV have done for the public? That its raised social awareness through the roof? That the average intelligence quota has risen every year since their invention? We wouldn't have a black president for who knows how long without mass media.

Damn right I'm a consumer, and I don't need to apologize for my purchases because you don't see them fit, because you think its more luxurious than productive. Computers are saving lives every day,and convenience based technologies are no less likely to turn out to be life saving as medical or educational based research.

Television is not a threat to human prosperity. Constraints on human ingenuity and progress however, is. The line of thinking you're demonstrating is more a cancer to society than my 12" laptop. We could really do with out it, thanks.

how about the doctor who can make a diagnosis from his phone on a plane? how about the disease researchers who otherwise would have been thousands of miles apart who can now see each other and talk about findings at that moment...

come on....dont be ignorant

You have the newer one, I have the old XT that they are trying to get rid of because of inventory troubles.

The difference is a brighter screen and DDR3 memory, and a couple of other things that I don't really need.

Also, garcia you should get the battery base thing. It adds about a half pound in weight, (which makes it a whopping 3.5lbs, :) )

And adds an insane amount of battery life, like 6 hours more.

Comes with 1GB of ram and a 40GB harddrive. Im spending $40 for retail memory off www.newegg.com.

The Hard drive I'm going to keep at 40GB because i never use that much space anyways and I'm waiting untill the flash memory gets cheaper. That stuff is going to change computing speeds big time.

The processor on yours I think is faster even though its a lower clock, its the newer processor from Intel. And the gpu is a lot better. For sure i know the only games im going to be playing on my computer are hearts and those online flash games.

I looked there for RAM as well, but I'll wait a year and kick it to 4GB with the ddr3. The part I think I like best was the 3mb of l2 cache. I am going to use this mainly to trade 4x and be completely mobile.

You'll definitely want the battery pack then. A little heavier but you dont have to recharge for 7 to 9 straight hours of use. You can't beat that. Do you have an EVDO plan?
