Three championships appear to be the most. This was done by Los Angeles in 2002 when the Lakers (NBA), Sparks (WNBA) and Galaxy (MLS) all won their respective title.

North American Cities with Multiple Championships in the Same Year

People often speculate about how often a North American city has won multiple championships in a single year. Multiple championships do occur on a fairly regular basis if you look at all of the major North American Sports - baseball (MLB), basketball (NBA), football (CFL and NFL), hockey (NHL), and soccer (MLS). It was last accomplished in 2004 by Boston when the New England Patriots won the Super Bowl and the Boston Red Sox won the world series.
The multiple championship feat was first accomplished by the City of Toronto in 1914. In that year the Toronto Argonauts of Canadian Football and the Toronto Blueshirts of the National Hockey League both won their respective championships (the Grey Cup and the Stanley Cup).
Cities with Two or More Champions in the Same Year

Only one city has won three championships in a year. This feat was accomplished by Los Angeles in 2002 when the Los Angeles Lakers (NBA), Los Angeles Sparks (WNBA) and the Los Angeles Galaxy (MLS) each won their respective championship. Nine cities have won multiple championships in a single year, some of them multiple times. The cities with two or more championships in a single year are:
<center> <table> <tbody><tr><th>City</th><th># of Times</th></tr> <tr><td>New York</td><td>5</td></tr> <tr><td>Toronto</td><td>4</td></tr> <tr><td>Detroit</td><td>2</td></tr> <tr><td>Los Angeles</td><td>3</td></tr> <tr><td>Montreal</td><td>2</td></tr> <tr><td>Boston</td><td>1</td></tr> <tr><td>Chicago</td><td>1</td></tr> <tr><td>Edmonton</td><td>1</td></tr> <tr><td>Pittsburgh</td><td>1</td></tr> </tbody></table> </center>
Dual Championships by Year

Since 1914, multiple championships in the same city have occurred 20 times. Following is a list by year of the cities with multiple championships and the teams that accomplished the feat:
<table><tbody><tr><th><small>Year</small></th> <th><small>City</small></th> <th><small>Team 1</small></th> <th><small>Team 2</small></th> <th><small>Team 3</small></th></tr> <tr><td><small>2004</small></td> <td><small>Boston</small></td> <td><small>Boston Red Sox (MLB)</small></td> <td><small>New England Patriots (NFL)</small></td> <td><small><center>-</center></small></td></tr> <tr><td><small>2002</small></td> <td><small>Los Angeles</small></td> <td><small>Los Angeles Lakers (NBA)</small></td> <td><small>Los Angeles Sparks (WNBA)</small></td> <td><small>Los Angeles Galaxy (MLS)</small></td></tr> <tr><td><small>2001</small></td> <td><small>Los Angeles</small></td> <td><small>Los Angeles Lakers (NBA)</small></td> <td><small>Los Angeles Sparks (WNBA)</small></td> <td><small><center>-</center></small></td></tr> <tr><td><small>1998</small></td> <td><small>Chicago</small></td> <td><small>Chicago Bulls (NBA)</small></td> <td><small>Chicago Fire (MLS)</small></td> <td><small><center>-</center></small></td></tr> <tr><td><small>1988</small></td> <td><small>Los Angeles</small></td> <td><small>Los Angeles Dodgers (MLB)</small></td> <td><small>Los Angeles Lakers (NBA)</small></td> <td><small><center>-</center></small></td></tr> <tr><td><small>1987</small></td> <td><small>Edmonton</small></td> <td><small>Edmonton Eskimos (CFL)</small></td> <td><small>Edmonton Oilers (NHL)</small></td> <td><small><center>-</center></small></td></tr> <tr><td><small>1979</small></td> <td><small>Pittsburgh</small></td> <td><small>Pittsburgh Pirates (MLB)</small></td> <td><small>Pittsburgh Steelers (NFL)</small></td> <td><small><center>-</center></small></td></tr> <tr><td><small>1977</small></td> <td><small>Montreal</small></td> <td><small>Montreal Alouettes (CFL)</small></td> <td><small>Montreal Canadiens (NHL)</small></td> <td><small><center>-</center></small></td></tr> <tr><td><small>1969</small></td> <td><small>New York</small></td> <td><small>New York Mets (MLB)</small></td> <td><small>New York Jets (AFL)</small></td> <td><small><center>-</center></small></td></tr> <tr><td><small>1956</small></td> <td><small>New York</small></td> <td><small>New York Yankees (MLB)</small></td> <td><small>New York Giants (NFL)</small></td> <td><small><center>-</center></small></td></tr> <tr><td><small>1952</small></td> <td><small>Detroit</small></td> <td><small>Detroit Lions (NFL)</small></td> <td><small>Detroit Red Wings (NHL)</small></td> <td><small><center>-</center></small></td></tr> <tr><td><small>1947</small></td> <td><small>Toronto</small></td> <td><small>Toronto Argonauts (Canadian Football)</small></td> <td><small>Toronto Maple Leafs (NHL)</small></td> <td><small><center>-</center></small></td></tr> <tr><td><small>1945</small></td> <td><small>Toronto</small></td> <td><small>Toronto Argonauts (Canadian Football)</small></td> <td><small>Toronto Maple Leafs (NHL)</small></td> <td><small><center>-</center></small></td></tr> <tr><td><small>1944</small></td> <td><small>Montreal</small></td> <td><small>Montreal HMCS DONNACONA (Canadian Football)</small></td> <td><small>Montreal Canadiens (NHL)</small></td> <td><small><center>-</center></small></td></tr> <tr><td><small>1942</small></td> <td><small>Toronto</small></td> <td><small>Toronto RCAF (Canadian Football)</small></td> <td><small>Toronto Maple Leafs (NHL)</small></td> <td><small><center>-</center></small></td></tr> <tr><td><small>1938</small></td> <td><small>New York</small></td> <td><small>New York Yankees (MLB)</small></td> <td><small>New York Giants (NFL)</small></td> <td><small><center>-</center></small></td></tr> <tr><td><small>1935</small></td> <td><small>Detroit</small></td> <td><small>Detroit Tigers (MLB)</small></td> <td><small>Detroit Lions (NFL)</small></td> <td><small><center>-</center></small></td></tr> <tr><td><small>1933</small></td> <td><small>New York</small></td> <td><small>New York Giants (MLB)</small></td> <td><small>New York Rangers (NHL)</small></td> <td><small><center>-</center></small></td></tr> <tr><td><small>1928</small></td> <td><small>New York</small></td> <td><small>New York Yankees (MLB)</small></td> <td><small>New York Rangers (NHL)</small></td> <td><small><center>-</center></small></td></tr> <tr><td><small>1914</small></td> <td><small>Toronto</small></td> <td><small>Toronto Argonauts (Canadian Football)</small></td> <td><small>Toronto Blueshirts (NHL)</small></td> <td><small><center></center></small>
