I just finished a project on this topic and it was interesting to hear my classmates definitions. The definitions by the younger folks were drastically different than those of the more middle aged. I'm interested in hearing some of your definitions... What does "The American Way" mean to you?

Well, there is Truth, Justice, and the American Way. Did anyone ever say that these were all one in the same?

A lot of the folks lumped them together. They talked about things like determination, and hard work. There were several who took a different look, and wrote about the world's perception of "the american way" Those were mostly negative, but that's to be expected after the last 8 years.

I liked the hardworking, determined route. I just imagine what those dudes and ladies felt at Jamestown or Plymoth..knowing that there was nobody there to help them...only themselves. Same for the folks who went west with only a wagon and their will to survive. Self reliance is slowly being lost from our makeup I think

I dont know about that , let me see if I can adequately explain what I mean here ........
Back in 1970 , people couldnt imagine life back in the 1800's , people back in the 1800's couldnt imagine life in the 1700's etc ........ my point is as technology changes , so does our definition of self reliance.........Like in Trucking , I first started , no cell phones , no computers , no GPS , we had to find out where we was going either by pay phone or asking questions at a truckstop ........... today I can use GPS , laptop , I still have to figure out where i am going , I just use different tools ...... I hope this makes sense ;D

The modern American way is to go into debt to enjoy a higher standard of living. This is unsustainable, so the next generation will define American Way much differently.
