Prime Minister John Howard Australia:
Muslims who want to live under Islamic Sharia law were told on Wednesday to get out of Australia , as the government targeted radicals in a bid to head off potential terror attacks.

Separately, Howard angered some Australian Muslims on Wednesday by saying he supported spy agencies monitoring the nation's mosques.
Quote: 'IMMIGRANTS, NOT AUSTRALIANS, MUST ADAPT. Take It Or Leave It. I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Bali , we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Australians'.

'This culture has been developed over two centuries of struggles, trials and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom'. 'We speak mainly ENGLISH, not Spanish, Lebanese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society . Learn the language!'

'Most Australians believe in God. This is not some Christian, right wing, political push, but a fact, because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture.'

'We will accept your beliefs, and will not question why. All we ask is that you accept ours, and live in harmony and peaceful enjoyment with us.'

'This is OUR COUNTRY, OUR LAND, and OUR LIFESTYLE, and we will allow you every opportunity to enjoy all this. But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about Our Flag, Our Pledge, Our Christian beliefs, or Our Way of Life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great Australian freedom,

'THE RIGHT TO LEAVE'.'

'If you aren't happy here then LEAVE. We didn't force you to come here. You asked to be here. So accept the country YOU accepted.'

Maybe if we circulate this amongst ourselves, American citizens will find the backbone to start speaking and voicing the
same truths.

Sounds like some members of this board should move there - they would believe in their country more than ours.

Count the times the words ''God'' or "Christianity'' were used in our Constitution, and you know what our country was founded on. Our country was founded on the basis of leaving theocracies, not creating a new one.

I agree with the language issue and the immigrant issue, but you can shove your religious requirement up your ass.
Our laws give us the right to practice freedom of and from religion. And freedom of speach gives me the right to tell you to shove your religion.

RE: his little rant. Do the aboriginees need to leave also?

Don't know how many times I've wanted someone in American political office to say this. I don't care if you want to continue your traditional ways. Don't expect us to give up our traditions because they offend you. The immigrants of the late 1800's and early 1900's understood how to keep their culture and how to adapt to the "American Way" of living. We are a "melting pot" of cultures but they all must be unified not trying to form their own Muslim, Asian, Hispanic, whatever states within our own country. Having pride in your culture is one thing. Trying to cherry pick what you want from your new nation and force what you want from your old culture only creates friction. If the US keeps this up we'll be having the rioting and general racial tension that some of the european nations now face.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof"

That's all folks.

Our country was founded on the basis of leaving theocracies, not creating a new one.

That is incorrect. Our country was founded on the principle of believing in what you wish from a theocractic perspective. And that it not be a qualification to lead the citizens of this country.

People fled from Europe to America fleeing theocracies to a place where they could practice their own religion. They set up colonies in New England, eventually wrote a Godless Constitution, and the rest is history. That's a historical fact, deal with it.

Actually, our country was founded on the principle that there could be no taxation without representation. The separation of church and state came later.

Not exactly the case. Colonies were set up everywhere. You are specifically referring to the Puritans that went to New England to escape religious persecution in England, even though they were persecutors themselves. They were just the minority. The first permanent colony here was St Augustine in Florida, followed by Jamestown. The Puritans didn't come until sometime after Jamestown and before Lord Cromwell (Puritan) defeated the Cavs in England. Where he made England a Commonwealth for 10 years. After his death Charles the II and the Tutor line was restored to the throne in England. Charles the II set up mercantile colonies in America and the seeds of the British Empire were sown. And just so you understand, the people of New England didn't write our Declaration of Independence or our Constitution. Virginians did. Now the reason I bring this up is the British here, at the time of our revolution were not repelled because of religion, but because of economic slavery(yeah, it's ironic both then and today). The First Amendment was derived from several places, but mostly for a Virginia law written by Thomas Jefferson. The purpose of that law was to remove religion from public office qualification. It didn't preclude religion being in public office or in the public in general. Nor does our First Amendment. We've just come to interpret it that way.

Strictly speaking of the Puritans, they were religious persecutors themselves. They left England because they didn't believe the Church of England was strict enough in its teachings and religious practice. In fact they made today's religious fanatics look like pagans.

That would be another principle. You are referring though to a quote by Patrick Henry, who opposed the US Constitution.

Those who came to America fleeing theocracies and in search of religous freedom goes far beyond the Puritans (and even Christianity) and beyond just England.

John Howard hasn't been PM of Australia for well over a year. This is dated.

I was responding to what you specifically referenced, but not really. Christian and Catholics provided the large majority of the people that came here.

Catholics are Christians, despite all the protestations of the Protestants to the contrary.

meh, penal colony desendants.

Bravo, if they don't like him, they can vote him out.

I wouldn't mind moving there. The fallout will be less, both politically and radiologically.
