A lot of people have been talking about nnamdi asomugha at CB, but he will be too expensive. Not saying that we need another corner, but if we did I think this guy would be a way smarter move.

Though Ravens head coach John Harbaugh and owner Steve Bisciotti both praised CB Chris McAlister at the club’s end-of-season press conference, neither would commit to his return in ’09, and a source close to the club suggests McAlister could be a salary-cap cut.

Another guy to consider is Lito Sheppard who will very likely be cut by the Eagles if they can't secure a trade.

Lets not concentrate on corners and concentrate resources on the front seven. If you have a good front seven, it can cover cornerback deficiency. As we all know, it doesnt work the other way around

I agree, Le-lo, but if we let Bly go we'll need another CB. Doesn't hurt to discuss possible alternatives.

Could be is what you must have missed. Why worry about things that might not happen and look towards our real issues on defense as Lelo mentioned

If Bly is cut, and we don't prioritize McAlistair over Atogwe or Suggs, then I'd be happy with it.

i say go after fixing the line and our LB's and then worry about the secondary. if we can have ok talent with a dominant front 7 than our secondary will look better than it actually is. if our front 7 remains ****ty it won't matter who we have in the secondary because we are going to look terrible again.

a good front 7 will make an ok secondary look good. a great secondary won't make the front 7 look good.

Isnt McAlister getting up there? My first reaction is no based on that alone...that and the fact that we already have enough payroll tied up in a CB for a team that was dreadful on defense. We need to put some resources elsewhere.

I'm all for bringing in highly graded corners and watching them getting toasted by a quarterback whose playing 7-on-7 flag football.

No, Denver could use some fresh legs at the cornerback position.

If Denver trades down, I wouldn't mind using a 2nd rounder on Macho Harris.

Bly > McAllister.

McAllister is way overrated. Having Reed play over the top of you helps you a lot.

Bly is gone, I see him getting cut because he does not warrant the contract the has. So the CB has to be addressed somehow. I would love for Asoumuagh to be here but yeah he is too expensive. McAllister may not be as talented as Bly but he could come cheaper.

Like with Mike Brown, why does everyone want a player that can not stay healthy to come in? Haven't you learned your lesson?

Bly is gone...

Very possible, which is why those dismissing this topic don't get it. Yes resources need to be focused on the front 7 but if resources can be freed up by letting Bly go a replacement will be necessary. If this does happen and both are possibilities I prefer Lito Sheppard to McAlister.

Let JMFW, Paymah, Bell and maybe a 2nd day pick fight for the spot opposite Champ.

If we upgrade the front 7 and we DE's that can sack then I am at peace with that.

I thought Bell did well last year. I would like to see Paymah work with support up front instead of having to cover a guy for 4-5 seconds.

I believe this is a far better solution....

CB is the only spot where we're set defensively. Two starters and three backups, we're fine.

Bly was good this year with no pass ruch. Put some pressure on the QB, and suddenly he's very good.

No! Next question. I'm tired of signing big name CB's and leaving washed up retreads for the front 7. The front 7 can solve the CB problem or make it a lot smaller if sometime and resources are invested in it.

I thought he stepped up his game while Champ was out. He is not very physical, we really need a physical presence at Safety and a front 7... not too much to ask.

I wish we could keep Bly. Eddie Mac (or other cap knowledgeable poster), is there any way Dre' could redo his deal to a more cap friendly number to stay here?

No. If they did something that dumb, theyll make onions cry.

Bly is fine.

Like another poster alluded to earlier on this thread, it doesnt matter who you put back there if the linebackers and front 4 cant do anything.

The defense needs any type of playmaker. It doesn't matter where.

Atari Bigby would solve our problem at safety maybe plus he has a sweet name.

I'd just like to throw out that Paymah is a free agent. (we've not given him a new contract)

Unless he comes at a bargain basement price, I'd have to say no.
I never really thought he was that good, and the money would be better spent shoring up the front seven.

A solid pass rush will make an average corner a pro-bowler.

Money needs spent LB,DE and S.

It's more like 11 on 7. The other team's OL participates in the game.

Bly's cap hit on the roster versus his accelerated bonus for being cut at this point is pretty much neck and neck I believe.

So cutting him doesn't change our financial situation at all and opens up a whole at our #2 CB spot. I'd be more willing to bet that we keep Bly for one more season while the new regime starts putting the front seven framework in place, then next year look to cut him when we can have the young guys we got now and possibly one or two we'll pick up this year or next step into his role.

Unless of course the FO feels they could have a legit shot at Asomougha and that he'd be the best FA upgrade we could land, but that seems unlikely.

I agree. Dude is the king of the Defensive PI and Holding penalties.
