Trio of injury replacements added to Pro Bowl rosters

The NFL announced several changes to the 2009 Pro Bowl rosters on Tuesday. Out are several veteran players who ended the season battling injuries. In are three injury replacements that include the top overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft and a surprise quarterback who led his team to the AFC’s No. 1 seed.

Dolphins rookie LT Jake Long, the top overall pick in last year’s draft, is replacing Jason Peters of the Bills on the AFC roster. Peters suffered a late-season knee injury for the Bills. Titans QB Kerry Collins will also take the place of the Jets’ Brett Favre, who has a torn biceps tendon that will not require surgery.

On the NFC roster, Packers CB Al Harris is replacing Asante Samuel of the Eagles, who has a neck injury.

Long, who started all 16 games for the Dolphins, becomes the first top overall pick to make the Pro Bowl as a rookie since New Orleans running back George Rogers in 1981. He’ll join teammates Joey Porter and Ronnie Brown in Hawaii. The other AFC tackles are Joe Thomas of the Browns and the Titans’ Michael Roos.

Collins will be making his second Pro Bowl appearance after taking over the starting duties for the Titans in Week 2 and leading them to a 13-3 record. He’ll be going to the Pro Bowl for the first time since 1996, when he lead the Carolina Panthers to the NFC Championship Game in his second season. Collins is one of six Titans on the roster, joining Roos, RB Chris Johnson, DT Albert Haynesworth, CB Cortland Finnegan and S Chris Hope.

Harris will make his second straight Pro Bowl appearance after being designated an alternate the previous three seasons. Harris is the third member of the Packers’ secondary to get Pro Bowl recognition — CB Charles Woodson and S Nick Collins were voted starters — but Woodson will be replaced by Tampa Bay’s Ronde Barber. The Vikings’ Antoine Winfield is the other NFC cornerback.

In 2150, football historians will take a look back at 2008 and they will all acknowledge that second team All-Pro Ryan Clady had the superior season to Miami's Jake Long.

The Pro Bowl should be abolished...Especially if it's no longer in Hawaii.

Titans QB Kerry Collins will also take the place of the Jets’ Brett Favre.

Now THAT'S a joke. As much as I hate Phyllis, he should probably be the AFC starter, or #2 to say the least.

Kerry-freaking-Collins? :oyvey:

they are going to look back and realize he had a better season than every LT in the league this year. and his sacks allowed stats prove that. that isn't homerism

Clady had the best season of anyone on our entire roster yet he is the one who misses the Pro Bowl, go figure...

Well, no chance he makes the Pro Hall of FAME in 2029. Once guys get injured and cant play in the Pro Bowl, it should be automatic that top players and not who is more popular should be going. We will never see those that truelly deserve it get selected if it is names that people are familiar with each year. Rivers has got to be known more than Collins. Some things are unexplanable. One good thing is Favre wont be there as he didnt deserve the #3 slot.

Bull**** about Clady.

About Dip****, Total access reported it like Rivers would of been next in line but he's apparently injured, so Collins it is.

Favre, Rivers sidelined by injuries

There was movement on the AFC Pro Bowl quarterback roster on Tuesday.

Both the Jets' Brett Favre and the Chargers' Philip Rivers are not going to play in the game because of injuries. Tennessee's Kerry Collins has been named to the roster. Favre was one of three AFC quarterbacks to be named to the Pro Bowl last month. Rivers was the No. 1 alternate. Collins was the No. 2 alternate.

Favre's absence was long expected. He ended the season with a shoulder injury. He rarely played in the Pro Bowl while with Green Bay. Favre is considering retirement, so he may have played his final game.

Rivers is not playing because of a sore knee, a Chargers' spokesman said Tuesday night. The spokesman said Rivers is not expected to have surgery. Rivers is not expected to miss any of the Chargers' offseason condition program. Rivers suffered a torn ACL in the 2007 playoffs but played without issue in 2008 and had his best NFL season.

Collins was a surprise standout for the Titans, who had the No. 1 seed in the AFC playoffs after going 13-3. Collins, who took over for Vince Young early in the season, threw for 2,678 yards and 12 touchdowns. He will join Peyton Manning of the Colts and Jay Cutler of the Broncos as the AFC's quarterbacks. The game will be played in Honolulu on Feb. 8.

Jay Cutler was sacked 11 times in 616 attempts
Chad Pennington was sacked 24 times in 476 attempts
AND, Denver rushed for 2 less YPG than Miami with all the injuries at RB
Cutler is by far more mobile, but Long more deserving than Clady?
What the **** ever

Jake Long was the fourth alternate because he was first in fan voting. Clady finished sixth overall in fan voting. He was not even named an alternate.

He did finish second in the All-pro votes, though. Next year is when Clady will get his due. Fans voted for Long because he was the number one pick and don't have any idea how well any lineman is playing.
