If you were the filthy rich owner of an NFL team that needed a coach right now, and you could hire anyone available, who would it be?

I'm not so sure Shanahan is as attractive a candidate as we think ... he's f'd around with his defensive personnel and coaches too much, and again, just one playoff win in 10 years.

True, but he is about as attractive as any of the other coaches there. You approach Shanny and tell him, "you dont get GM duties, dont even ask. And I already have a good Def Coord lined up."

In that case, I think you could turn him over the keys.

Well it didn't say WHO WOULD YOU HIRED FOR THE UPCOMING SEASON.

That being said I'd hire Parcells to HC or if he didn't want that GM and he can pick the coach.

Really depends on the situation of the team.

Example:

If I was the Rams my top two choices would be Spagnuolo or Rex Ryan. Spags because he'd bring Long and Carriker along as the 4-3 talents they recently have been used as, Ryan because he'd utilize them in a 4-3/3-4 hybrid that would also make very good use of both of their skill sets.

Starting an expansion franchise or something though from the ground up? Schottenheimer. Guy can build a team. He never gets them over the hump, but he builds 'em real well and if I'm so rich I can dump him as soon as he's put it all together, at which point I bring in a Mike Shanahan for the final touches.

Well, With Shanny at the helm, you would have another .500 team.... That is what he is the past 3 seasons.

This season it have been shown the DEFENSE wins, not the high flying offense that we have been trying to incorporate. With that said, from you list I went Rex Ryan.

SB ready team: Shanny (Enjoy him but, when rebuilding is needed on D goodluck.
Rams lions gig: Shotty (Avg HC but, great on talent)
Gruden: (Not as high on Chucky as others are)
Ryan: Has alot of toys at his disposal not sure what he could do with a D like ours. Heck I think even as dumb as Slowik is he could make Ravens D still in top 15 overall.

The Shan man isn't going to coach this season either....Hmmmm, let's see. Get paid for sitting on your ass or get paid busting your ass? Which would you choose?

Pete Carroll, get some top draft picks and keep the fans expectations low until I hire Tony Dungy out of retirement.

I vote for Cowher for two reasons. One, he took a team to the Super Bowl with Neil O'Donnell at QB. No easy task. Plus, his players generally fed off his intensity and would run through a wall.

As for Shanahan, first off, if voting for him, hands off personnel decisions. Second, would need to see he takes his defense and special teams seriously, which anyone being honest, would have to say he didn't for many years with the Broncos and is the main reason he's gone.

Jeff Fisher if Shanny wasn't available. He took over the Oiler mess as an interim stop-gap as they were transitioning without a home or identity. The Houston/Memphis/Nashville Oilers/Titans were suprisingily mediocre instead of pathetic under him. After becoming the Tennessee Titans, they are 96-64 (.600) under him. That's up there with Belichick and Shanahan, but Fisher doesn't have the hardware.

Schottenhiemer. He has shown he can assemble a staff, pick talent and coach them into a playoff contender more than once under multiple corperate structures.

He can literallty take any team and make them better.

If I were a franchise and needed a new coach, I would hire Shanny.

Getting the boot from Denver will be good for his career in the long run.

A fresh challenge and the need to self evaluate will make him an even better coach down the line.

I have no doubt that some team is going to hit the jackpot.

Shanahan if I was starting with a fresh team. Marty would be a very close 2nd, if not just a toss up.

That's an OC, not an HC.

He can pick talent that is for sure and coach them up. How about him in a GM role? Wonder how he would do in that position.

I wonder the same thing. What I wonder more, is why does this guy win so many games and still lose his job?
