Well, the Panthers do like to run the ball. So it pokes some holes in everyone's theory about McDaniels coming in and abandoning the run.

Mike Mccoy QB coach of the Carolina Panthers is the new OC of the Denver Broncos

http://www.panthers.com/Team/CoachBio.aspx?id=1934

Playing and Personal
McCoy's résumé includes college and professional playing experience. Originally signed as an undrafted free agent in 1995 by the Denver Broncos, he spent the 1995 season on the Green Bay Packers practice squad. In 1997, he saw his first pro playing time as a member of the Amsterdam Admirals of NFL Europe and earned a roster spot with the San Francisco 49ers, serving as the team's third quarterback for one game. In 1998, McCoy went to training camp with the Philadelphia Eagles and completed his playing career with the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League in 1999.

McCoy's college career took a number of turns but ended in dramatic fashion as he threw a game-winning, five-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Kevin Dyson in the final minute to give Utah a 16-13 win over Arizona in the Freedom Bowl. He started his college career at Long Beach State, where he played for legendary head coach George Allen. A native of Novato, CA, McCoy and his wife, Kellie, have a daughter, Olivia, and a son, Luke, and live in Charlotte.

History
Quarterback Long Beach State 1990-91, Utah 1992-94. Pro quarterback: Amsterdam Admirals (NFLE) 1997, Calgary Stampeders (CFL) 1999. Pro coach: joined Panthers in 2000.

Oh God No! That means Bates won't be back. That means he won't be able to continue to copy the offense the Pats run! What are the Broncos to do? There's no one on staff that knows how to continue to copy the system that the former Patriots' offensive coordinator ran!!

I think he was being sarcastic. Regardless, Carolina had the third best rushing offense in the league. 7th in points per game.

This is the first hiring that has made me do a bit of a double take. With McDaniels calling the plays and installing his own offense, I'm not too sure what he is looking for in an OC. Is McCoy known for being specalized in anything great? Does Delhommne attribute his comeback to the guy or something? Seems a little out of left field.

yea i think in this case, the OC is to assist with offensive oversight, we dont need a stud OC, but someone who can help manage it.

I'd say he's been hired as the new QB coach as Bates' is as good as gone to the Lions as their new OC. The only reason we got McCoy was by probably giving him the title (with no OC duties) offensive co-ordinator position.

Probably the same thing Shanny looked for in an OC when he was hired. I remember him saying that it was his offense and he would call his own plays, but Kubes would help him set-up and organize practices, run meetings, etc.

Kubes didn't call plays for a couple of years later, if I remember right.

He calls the plays in Carolina, so would have essentially been coming to Denver for a demotion since McDaniels has said he's calling plays.

Well, you can look at it also like he manages to make Delhomme look like a starting quality qb fairly often, which is quite an accomplishment (credit should be shared with Steve Smith though).

And he really looked composed back there. Obviously he is a great QB coach because all those points had absolutely nothing to do with the 2 headed monster Caroline had at RBs, unlike Denver's 7 headed monster which dominates.

Far too many posters are slobering over our HC and his decisions when he has yet to prove something. I look forward to next season, but I will not bother crowning him until he wins something.
