View Full Version : Some giants fan "friends" are questioning our fanbase

Friends of mine at the office are Giants fans (I live in New York). They say we won't land big FAs like Scott and Suggs because we're not an east coast team... what they fail to see is we are a big market.

I need numbers for our team and I'm having trouble sifting through the crap on google

1. NFL attendance rankings
2. NFL franchise sell value
3. NFL estimated fanbase ranking
4. Any other numbers that might help me show up these clowns

All help is appreciated. I hate east coast fans.

There was an article that showed where Denver ranked among the players. Denver was in the top 10 it was posted here just not sure where.

Players dont give a **** where they play anymore as long as they get those double digit million dollar guarantees.

Our biggest problem might be that Bowlen is not one of the wealthier owners in the league.

The Denver Broncos have sold out every home game since 1970.

This is how we would end the arguement down south, we would tell them to "Suck a fart out of my a$$, then just walk away!!!!

I learned this one in debate class. Find one stat that their fan base is weak at and where ours beats them handily. The next time you are in an argument about the issue, you make certain that you bring it up, calmly and cooly, and then break off a glass shiv in their gut. See if they bring it up again.

If you offer bonuses they will come. It's all about upfront money to these players. They want a big payday and they want it in a chunk upfront.

If Bowlen willing to throw out a 10-12-15 million upfront they will come to Denver.

Yeah. That pretty much settles it.

Basing an argument on who they freaking know? That's just stupid. I don't know a single Redskins or Eagles fan that lives here in the Portland area, but I'm still pretty sure they exist. Alternatively, there are tons of Broncos fans here.

This is all you need to combat Giants fans. Read the comments from Giants fans. Crowd noise @ Giants stadium has been a huge issue the past few seasons, as in, there isn't any. Older fans telling younger fans to sit down, shut up, etc.

NY fans are loyal, but real ****ing blockheads.

First off, it's not like NY has been luring in big ticket free agents en masse.

Secondly, it was pretty widely publicized that the Denver job was the best one out there. That should tell you something.

Beyond that... just tell them to concentrate on how they just choked away a chance at a repeat and quit wasting brain-power on an AFC team half-way across the country.

I run into a bunch of Bronco and Raider fans in western PA. A couple of Chief fans, but I've never met a real Chargers fan - ever. I think the Broncos have a pretty good nationwide fanbase thanks to their 90's championships.

On a more serious note I actually did put these guys in their place. The feeling I get from most east coast fans is that they only watch sports to gloat, not because they love the game. Broncos fans love FOOTBALL.

All they care about is the Yankees beating the Red Sox or vice versa.

On the converse, Broncos fans don't tend to love "football", they tend to love quarterbacks (or hate them in Jake's case) and frontrun with the bandwagon. The days of the Mile High Madness are in large part done and gone.

However, Elway inundated Broncos fans with something that other franchises can only envy (including Giants fans), and that's having had the opportunity to watch one of the greatest football players to lace 'em up for the better part of 15 years...and with that exposure came the expectations of a champion franchise and the achievements that only a few others can best. None of which are the NY Giants.

The Giants have LT (the original), Phil Simms, and other overrated legends including Harry Carson and Otis Anderson.

The Broncos have a bevy of all-timers including the one and only Duke, and many underrated legends including Atwater, Mecklenberg, Gradishar, etc.

The Giants cant hang with the Broncos in regards to franchises and fanbases. NY sports a few diehard loyalists, many of whom would rather be at the Yankees game. The Broncos have a fanbase similar to a college town. The Broncos are the only real ticket in town, and have been traditionally treated as such.

Players choose a team for:
1. Money
2. The chance to win a championship
3. Great coaches

#2 and #3 are usually linked together.

Most players could give a **** how many people are wearing their jersey in another state, they want fans in the stadium.

The Giants aren't even big free agency players, so I don't even see his point.

Suggs will follow the money, and a chance to be a cornerstone of another winning franchise (which means more money). You tellin' me that Baltimore is the best place to live? Over Denver? Seriously?

The Broncos are a regional team as has been mentioned. Denver itself is a small market. Even including all the stats of the other states in the Rocky Mountain region, The Giants probably draw more people in their fan base. Denver is considered a small market team.

Now having said that, Denver is a high profile team in pro-football. The Packers have a small market, but a huge draw because of the history and devoted fan base of the franchise. There are any number of reasons a player will sign somewhere. It all depends on the player. The biggest is money. If a guy is younger he'll want money and go to the highest bidder. If he's older and has money he'll try and find somewhere he can get a ring, typically. Some guys go where they think they'll have good stats so they can pad stats to get into the hall of fame. Some will go because they like the coache's style.

Rarely do people make the type of market a team is a major contributing factor. If anything you could argue that the big market of New York is a minus because they will be hounded by media non-stop and have to deal with heavy regulations and taxes. Some people won't want that. The other side is Colorado is a great place to live. The weather is awesome and we have good schools and great recreation. A lot of players have families and want something good for them.

It's a big decision with a lot of factors and anyone saying no one wants to come here because it's a smaller market is a moron.

Tell those east coast fans to zip it. If they are looking at $$ in ticket sales/ jersey sales/ all other franchise sales. NYC will be inflated because its a much larger population.

Denver does way better considering its population, especially when you spread it around the country. I saw a broncos shirt yesterday at the mall in STL, i have never seen Giants / Jets anywhere outside NY.

New york teams have been around longer.

For Denver being a much newer city and much newer bronco team, we blow them out of the water.

They have old old fans, and we just have old fans. Give it one more generation, and we will outgrown them, even with the smaller population.
