In 1992, the year before Nolan got there, the Giants were 18th in total defense.

93, Nolans first year, they were 5th. 94 they were 11th, 95 they were 17th, and 1996, his last year, they were 14th.

Then we went to coordinate Washingtons defense.

1996, the year before Nolan got there, they were 28th in total defense.

1997, nolans first year, they were 16th, pretty nice improvement there. 1998 they were 24th, and 1999 they were 30th.

Then he went to the Jets. 1999, year before he got there they were 21st. Year he was there they were 10th.

Ravens 2000 defense, possibly the best ever, Nolans first year in 2001 they were 2nd, 2002 they were 22nd, 2003 they were 3rd (think that was Ed Reeeeeeeeeeds first year.) 2004 they were 6th.

SF, dont know what this has to do with anything, but lets check it out anyway. 2004 they were 24th, 2005 they were 32nd, 2006 they were 26th, 2007 they were 25th, and if you want to count this year they were 13th.

Thats yards, which might be seen by some as deceitful, so lets look at scoring defense.

Scoring defense

pre Nolan, the Giants were 12th in 91 and 26th in 1992. During Nolans tenure they were 1st in 93, 8th in 94, 16th in 95, 10th in 96.

pre Nolan the Redskins were 13th in 96. During Nolans tenure they were 8th in 97, 28th in 98, and 24th in 99.

pre Nolan the Jets were 9th in 99. In 2000 the Jets were 13th in 2000.

pre Nolan the Ravens were 1st in 2000. During Nolan they were 4th in 2001, 19th in 2002, 6th in 2003, 6th in 2004.

pre Nolan the 49ers were 32nd in 2004. 2005 they were 30th, 2006 they were 32nd, 2007 they were 20th, and if you want to count it, 2008 they were 23rd.

So its a mixed bag to say the least. He definitely wont make chicken salad out of chicken shlt, so we must get some players in here, which means NO 1ST ROUND RUNNING BACK!!!!! Or the defense will continue to fail. Because based on the numbers he sure as hell isnt a miracle worker, so just get that out of your head. Probably have another 400 point year unless we hit on some draft picks and free agents.

good numbers there. I was very high on him before I began to read all of the defensive stats out there on his teams.

I do like his attitude and demanding personality. I just hope this whole infusion of new works with the players.

New players are a MUST as well!

Don't need miracles. Need tackling and pressure. Progress is what I ask for, and accountability.
