I would love to be a fly on the wall when Nolan and Capers watch the tragic comedy that was the 2008 Bronco defense. Make your case as to who gets the axe first. The winner gets to gloat and wins a free internet. Poll is forthcoming.

i dont know for sure, eddie mac would probably know this better than i would, but i heard somewhere that d-robs contract makes him virtually untradable/cuttable.

He just might be the only guy on the D that has the potential to be a leader.

Jan 2009 in Mike Nolans office

Nolan and Capers watching film of the 2008 D of the Broncos.

Nolan: Dom do you see what I saw
Capers: Yeah Mike Denver is only playing with 8 players on D no wonder they are this bad

Nolan: Dom what is that small image in the distance

Capers: I don't know

Nolan: I'll go ask Josh Baskin be right back

Nolan: Hey Josh we need a digital enhancer for our film study we see a blur we can't Indentify.

Josh: Ok I'll ask Mr Bowlen I'll get back to you

Mike: Later Josh Baskin

Josh: Mr Bowlen

Bowlen yes son what do you need Josh?

Josh: Sir Mike Nolan needs a digital enhancer to identify this blurry image on the film.

Bowlen: Josh I'm paying my ex coach 20 mil dollars our budget does not allow for extras. Besides I can tell you what that blur is that's Dre Bly our starting CB.

Nolan: LOL sorry sir you wasted money on him. Anyway thanks for clearing that up

Nolan gets back with Capers no digital enhancer but, want to hear the funny part.

Capers: Yeah I guess

Nolan: Its Dre Bly our starting CB

Capers: Oh crap this will be harder then fixing the ecomony.

Nolan: no doubt

First and foremost Webster and McCree cant be cut as they are UFA in 2009.

Dre Bly's head will surely be on the block with another $3m option bonus in March 09.

Niko Koutouvides' head is next on the chopping block when he's due a $1.8m roster bonus.

Boss Bailey and Robertson will be next if we switch to 3-4 which is likely as neither fit and we aint paying D-Rob another $4m this year to sit on the bench.

Manuel is also a candidate for the push IMO.

Anyone else who doesn't fit the scheme may well be traded if a decent price can be obtained.

Niko's a great special teamer (So I've been told)
We cant afford to make that Unit any worse IMO.

None of them should be.

Bly is good, he will be back most likely provided they can work a more friendly deal.

The rest should be kept as backups/ST'ers.

I'd make an offer to Sproles also. Time to start being like the AFC east and stealing good players from our enemies.

You kidding? McCree, Manual are both crap I'd rather have the bkup safety's be younger, faster better special teamers.

Webster would be a decent bkup linebacker, Winborn also.

Robertson because of his bonus and the move to the 3-4. McCree and Webster are UFA's that won't be brought back along with Ekuban.

They're not so bad that they can't be used as backup/ST players.

It's kind of like me paying bills. There's so many options, but you know you have to make a choice which to tackle first...

Wait...If McDaniels uses that line, the players may become confused by the word "tackle". I might need to rephrase that for the benefit of our young coach...

He just might be the only guy on the D that has the potential to be a leader.

I could not agree more with this, and he will be a special player I bet in some capacity

he might have showed the most heart on defense the entire season through whether it was on special teams or defense
