mods if this was posted just merge, its getting confusing around here.

A source also said the team will hire Dom Capers, who was the head coach of expansion teams Carolina and then Houston. He was an assistant/secondary coach with the Patriots this season after serving eight years as an NFL head coach.

People always leave out the fact that Dom was the D coordinator of a 1-15 Dolphins team a year ago.

Will he install the 3-4? Defenses wins games in the NFL as noted by 3 of last 4 playoff teams come from the top 3 defenses.

3-4 defensive teams end up with a record of 59-33 against 4-3 teams in 2008 regular season + playoffs. 2-0 in playoffs so far with SB to come.

Seems like a definite advantage.

He has been both good and bad. Been apart of a great fins defense, and then apart of a crap one.

I dont think the hire is terrible, but with the youth movement direction were going in I thought Mcdermont would be a great choice.

Time to start preparing for the draft and reorganzing the defense though, so I guess time was a factor here.

The good Phins D he coached was a product of Nick Saban and after Nick bailed for greener pastures Dom was left alone and failed miserably.

Maualuga suddenly looks like a better fit also. There is a bunch of 3-4 rush ends and also that Jackson guy at DE. Good draft for 3-4.

haha. Wiki says it's a done deal. Welcome Ernest!

Ernest Dominic Capers (born August 7 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/August_7), 1950 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1950) in Cambridge, Ohio (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cambridge,_Ohio)) is an American football (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_football) Defensive Coordinator for the Denver Broncos (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Denver_Broncos) of the National Football League (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Football_League).

9news said that Nolan will be the DC and Capers will be on the staff...most likely as DB coach/Assistant Coach. same role he had in New England

Uh-oh we're making excuses for him already. I didn't see where it said he would be hired at D coord, just that he'd be hired.

I'm really loving the pairing of McDaniels and the two solid defensive minds.
We really needed a refocus on offense and a total rebuild of the defense. I was a Spags guy but this coaching staff is really what we needed.

I'd take this or Spags and his D people handling the D along with our entire O-Staff heading up everything on the offense.

i am luke warm on Capers, been good and bad, i guess it just depends in which capacity he will be used, but i do like the Nolan signing. i am going to enjoy watching him screaming and pacing the sidelines getting on our defenses ass.

This is interesting .... McDaniels has a connection with Kenny Peterson:

"It's not about how old you are; it's about experience," said Kenny Peterson, the Broncos defensive end who was a freshman tight end at McKinley High School in Canton, Ohio, when McDaniels was the starting quarterback.

People always leave out the fact that Dom was the D coordinator of a 1-15 Dolphins team a year ago.

But that said, their D played well last year and was not considered the problem at all. They were handcuffed by a horrendous offense.

This year, the Dolphins just put in a pedestrian offense with very modest numbers, and you saw huge improvement. That wasn't because Capers left, it's because the D wasn't on the field the entire game.

It's one thing to build a champion through defense, and it's another to have absolutely ZERO offense whatsoever.
