I'm going with the QB here: the Giants win.

I think with Jacobs going I can't see the eagles winning, but I'd like them to, the NFC Championship game IN Arizona would be amazing.

Roh is right. The Giants have the best oline in the game. Denver has a good one and Clady might be the best pass blocking LT but as a whole, the Giants have the best Oline in the game.

I hope the eagles D scores all the points (or at least sets the eagles O up inside the 5yrd line) and PHI wins and Spags is the new HC

Steve Prefontaine
01-11-2009, 11:52 AM
And there it is...exactly what I love about Jim Johnson.

Brings the pressure on 3rd down and forced Eli to take a shot down field. Yes, it's risky, and in this case the WR got separation and it could have been a TD. But there is a much greater probability of Eli missing that long throw (which he did) rather than sitting back and hoping that Eli misses a shorter, higher percentage throw with no pressure in his face.

I love defense! And the two QB's in this game couldn't be more similar in bad points, good points, and overall stats except Manning has the advantage of a slightly better OL. As in most games it will come down to the better D.

How old is Carney? He's gotta to be in his 40s.

It's interesting to see the body language of the favorites this weekend.

The Titans and Panthers pressed and looked nervous (despite the Titans moving the ball, they f-ed up by turning it over), look at the Giants' faces, they are getting a bit antsy.

well thats the ****ing plan if you have been paying attention to which coaches the brass want retained.

And if you were paying attention to what shanahan did during his tenure it was more Im running the offense and let Robinson, Rhodes, Coyer, Bates and Slowik run the defense. When the defense failed the DC was gone.

Not saying Spags is but I find it hilarious you guys just assume he is a good HC because he runs a good defense.

Really, you mean like an OC who actually was a HC in 1988-89 for LA, got fired because, as you say, somtimes a great coordinator does not make a great HC, became an OC again (SF) and then parlayed that success into a SB victory and then a HC position where he went on to win 2 more Lombardis?

That is so ridiculous. It is obvious what our issue is, it's defense. Whose offense did Shanny install when he came to Denver or was he too busy performing his headcoaching duties to care about it? Spag's expertise is on defense--he who coordinated a SB winning defense against the most potent offense in the history of profootball.Hiring him is a no brainer. Is it a guarantee? NO. but you sure as hell have a better chance of having success with someone who orchestrated a SB winning defense as opposed to someone who had not. On top of his accomplishments with the Giants, he served under one of this past decade's most accomplished DC's in jim Johnson. The likelihood that he would bring a succesful defense to Denver is better than it would be with soemone like Crennel or Capers.

Yeah, thankfully the Giants loss isnt on Spags. To this point, they gave up 7 on that pick by Eli. So, it amounts to 16 pts and it could have been more. Plus the defense gave the offense numerous chances to win the game. Even with the loss, Spags' unit has acquitted itself nicely.

you bring spags in as HC to fix the defense and not **** with the offense. Let Bates and Dennison and Turner run shlt on that side. And you have spags do what he has to do on the defensive side.

And what happens in 2010 if Bates gets a HC'ing gig and takes Dennison and Turner with him? We're a hiring a HEAD COACH for longer than just 2009. In fact, the likelihood is that if Spags were hired - he wouldn't be coordinating the defense, a current positional coach with the Eagles or Giants would be.

Thank god Pat Bowlen is smart enough to realize he needs to hire the best Head Coach and not a de-facto DC.

yup--and wouldn't you have said that it would take a miracle for the NYG to beat NE in last year's super bowl?

No, they deserved to go all the way last year. Have a look at their defensive record over the 2nd half of that season.

Dont even think of comparing the crap we have on defense to the players NYG have.

Not one DT could hold Robbins or Cofield's jock strap. At DE our fairies dont come close to Tuck/Osi or Kiwanuka. Their LB's are **** so no difference there. At safety they have guys on their flag team that would beat our starters to a pulp, CB pretty even when you combine Champ against Ross/Webster.

Dont think for a second Spagnulo/Morris or any so-called defensive genius is gonna come in here and turn this team around in a season or 2. At least 2 drafts/FA's and them deciding the **** from the half decent on the current roster will be required minimum.

You sound like the previous posters who 3 weeks ago were writing:

"Thank god Pat Bowlen is smart enough to realize he DOESN"T NEED TO HIRE A NEW HC!"

LOL

Whose ****ing Defensive system do you want to see us running? name a highly regarded DC who is unemployed/ in a different coaching position right now(ala Capers)? Dumb ass.

No thats stupid actually. What you want is a DC not a HC.

If you recall, I didnt want shanny fired, our offnse is fine with a good rb. And dont start with hilis.

We needed and still do a good DC, and since he's allready DC, and Shanny's gone. it's a no brainer.

Really genius? Next you will tell me water is wet and fire is hot. Who do you want to be the architect of our new defense? Someone who has won a SB via coaching defense or an OC hiring some DC retread?

Are you ok? Seem a bit fired up.

Spags might not be able to give Denver a dominant defense in a year or 2. But that's ok, because I would settle for a better/average defense. Denver's offense will be scoring some points over the next couple of years...assuming the new regime doesn't do something stupid.

So what if he is like Shanny except on Defense? Thats just retarded. Shanny wouldn't focus enough on Defense and it began to slip. Same thing will happen to the Offense. Thats why I want the guy with the best plan and entire staff. If that is Spags then great.

And then if you end up with a coach that is too focused on defense, 3 years from now we will be looking for a new head coach that can bring our offense back up to "Denver standards".

We need a head coach that will pay attention to both sides of the ball. I don't know who that is (and neither does anyone else not connected with the NFL). However, it could very well be McDaniels. Maybe it's Spags. Hopefully, Bowlen hires the right guy.

Npo dummy, a new OC is the danger, he would want to bring in HIS GUYS.
We still have Turner, Dennison,Bates ect.

The offense will run just fine.Unless some new OC blows the staff up.

Yeah, actually, I think the Broncos were concerned the Giants would take Moss and thats why they traded up...if I remember correctly. But the fact that the Dlinemen in NY swear by the guy speaks volumes. As it is now, we have two high picks in Moss and Crowder who havent really been maximized yet. If you go by what the Giants Dlinemen say, Spags give us the best chance to not let those draft picks go to waste.

Do the right thing, Pat...do the right thing.

Appreciate the compliment. Not often posters get those anymore on here. Normally replies are filled with abuse and belittlement from posters who think they know more than someone they've never met.

As for the second part. Anyone not named Slowik would be an improvement, the only other problem is finding someone who can turn ****e into gold. Know any genies???

EC think you picked me up wrong. I wouldn't mind Spagnulo here at all. I was making the point that regardless of the coach brought in, this defense needs talent injected before it goes anywhere.
