Nope, he's about 9.5 years older than I.

That's one of the younger looking pictures of him though.

Here's a grainy one that has him looking a little more seasoned (from wikipedia):

younger by 2+ years.

FWIW, a fellow school administrator (who has a diverse coaching background in Ohio- where McDaniels is from, and collegiately at U of Iowa) shared w/me that the McDaniels family is overall a bunch of solid people and Josh grew up in the game. His dad was the HS head coach, he was a very good HS QB and collegiate receiver.

He is about 12 years older than I am. But I do not think age really matters in the league. Tomlin is very young and he is guiding the Pittsburgh Steelers to success. I believe MickeyD could do the same for our beloved Broncos.

Interesting poll.

See, this is why this board loves Shanny a lot - he's the only Bronco coach 54% of this board (so far) has known since they were old enough to think critically.

If you are 32 or younger, that means you were 18 or younger when Shanny was hired as HC. Real critical thinking and judgement IMO doesn't start until one is past 18.

Therefore. . . . well, you get the point now your past 18, right?

I'm 26, I remember when Shanahan was hired, and I was reading and debating the merits of Nietzsche at 8. I think I developed some pretty strong critical thinking skills well before 18.

But then, I'm also happy that we fired Shanahan because his game got stale here.

I wouldn't say it's just a matter of critical thinking. It's the only coach many have known. Young or old it wasn't cool to be a Broncos fan in the 80's despite our SB appearances. In fact I'd say it was more popular to be a Bronco hater until 1998.

No you didn't. You may well have read and debated the non-existent merits of Nietzsche at the age of 8, but you most certainly didn't understand the bigger picture of it.

I only say this because if you were that wise and intelligent at the tender age of 8, then you most certainly wouldn't be on a message board debating who the next head coach of a football team is going to be. You'd probably be working on your doctorate at some prestigious university and thinking about crazy stuff like string or M theory or some thing.

I'd think that would work the other way, honestly.

The younger people might either not remember the SB experience--or it would seem like a lifetime since--, or might not remember how Denver was a punchline of Buffallo Bills proportions before Shanahan won them. Younger people are less patient on the whole.

Children should start to think critically at around the age of 10 and progress from that point on. 12 year olds used to be considered young adults. However, you are correct, that becuase of our societies failings, we release ignorant, helpless and entitled 18 year olds into the world. Hopefully Josh is one of the exceptions.

I am younger than Josh and deal with the fact that most of my employees and work associates are much older than I am. I started my own business at 26 and so far it has not possed a problem, but people are a little taken back when I walk into a conference room for the first time.

Good reply. I was thinking along the line that many people know pretty much nothing about the Broncos prior to when Shanny was hired. They think the Broncos=Shanahan.

Prior to the age of 16-18, most people are influenced by their parents, and I've seen a lot of youngsters over the years say they thought the Broncos and Reeves stunk because their Dad and uncles thought the Broncos and Reeves stunk. A lot of people on this board still think Reeves fired Shanny in 1988 when he went to the Raiders as HC. Many posters don't know that Shanny was hired into the league by Reeves in 1984 and was Elway's QB coach and the Bronco OC prior to defecting to Al Davis. Some people missed the point Bowlen made about "being a coach for 21 years in the Bronco organization".
