I know that we have to be the belle of the ball as far as prospective coaches goes, but do you see any of them turning us down if offered the job.

Would you be offended? I mean we aren't the Detroit Lions.

Why would a coach turn us down?

Only if they get low-balled.

if the coach works for NYG and has a job with NYJ.. then he need not move and working for a team in big city with new stadium is considered a plus by some.. and he need not relocate his family. so that is the only situation i see.. but the one coach with NYG who can be a HC had a bad interview with NYJ. So the answer is NO

Some people might actually not want the mile-high air of Denver.

Spagnoulo if he wants to stay out east. And yes, I would be deeply offended.

If Bowlen wants to tell someone that they have to keep Bates and Dennison. If a new HC wants to bring in his own guys, and not be told who his assistant coaches are going to be, I could see him passing up this job.

control issues would be the only stumbling block in any situation I can think of, obviously the coach in any form will want a say in things but the days of complete control over coaching and personnel are and rightfully should be over

I could see somebody do that.
The new HC will have a lot of pressure. He will have at least win 9+ Games with a difficult Schedule. What goes on if we drop to 7:9 or so?

So if Bowlen has requirements, then a coach might pass.

Do you really thing Pat would hire some stooge(Wade Phillips).....I mean another stooge? We need a strong HC, that will get the most out of the players he keeps, and gets more talent on Defense.

Garrett seems pretty fickle. I could see him interviewing and then turning down the job.

So you think that the pressure to win now might turn off some potential HC?

I think if a HC is affraid to lose then he shouldn't be the HC.

Mike Shanahan...... I bet he would take a pass. ;)

I would agree with that. But the question was. Could you see somebody turn down? And I think it is possible. When you are 32 years old your HC Career is in front of you. So you will check your option what is best for your career. It is the same thing like be the next QB after Elway or Marino etc. You have to be really great to let the fans love you. And with the lack of talent we have on defense I xould see somebody turn down the offer.

I see it like this. If I do not mess with the offense as a coach, and then find a way to improve the Defense to middle of the pack, than I should be able to win at least 2 more games this season.

With the way our D played last year I bet over half of the coaches in the league could have passed for at least 300 yards and 4 TDs on us.

I just read Klis' mailbag and he thinks Bowlen is trying to hire someone on the cheap. Its funny how they dont mention stuff like this when they want you to build a new stadium.

Its funny how everyone is glossing over that Bowlen said if you are worried about money in this league you are in the wrong business. Yet all the media talks about is doing things on the cheep.

Granted he won't give a blockbuster deal but he won't go with some lowball offer either to a mediocre coach. Thats my theory, its why you haven't seen the big names like Cowher, or even Mangini popping up.

So I don't think its money I think they want a new fresh mind. Its kind of been the Broncos tradition. The hired Reeves as the youngest coach in the NFL at the time, they also hired Shanny as a young up and comer.

Not at all surprising. He owes Shanahan a lot of $, the economy is in the tank (think how much a wealthy guy like Bowlen has lost over the last few months) and will probably get worse, and the NFL has major labor issues on the horizon. I could see us going cheap in FA, too.

I don't think so. I think the cheapest move that Pat could have made, would have been no move.

Haha maybe they'd pass because of the disgusting lack of talent on defense?

I think it will be hard for the guy who goes after Shanny.
Just like the guy who takes over for Elway...

it will only be hard if idiots like half the people on this board start calling for his had after one bad game. he should be gauranteed 3 seasons.
