Exactly. Over the last 8 years, I've gone back and forth with some numnutz about some info in the Terry Kath page (late guitar player for Chicago). Every 6 months to a year, one of us changes it back to what we think is right.

(He's wrong, I'm right.)

Whether Wikipedia is reputable or nut, they got one thing right, Ol' Norval loves himself some nuts on his chin, preferably Phillip Rivers'

A few years ago someone posted on Wikipedia that Sinbad died and it even made the news until Sinbad himself came out himself saying obviously the story was false.

The site is run by the public so you can but what other information you would like be it factual or not.

Actually Wikipedia, like other web 2.0 collaborative tools utilizing social networking platforms are the future of the internet and the present reality in business as well. Wikipedia is nearly as accurate as static information sources like Encyclopedia Britanica and errors are usually corrected fairly quickly. It is what it is and can be abused or misused but if you want quick basic information it's usually a good tool.

And I do know how to use the internet.

That's exactly right ... the collaborative open-editing technology is called WIKI, which stands for:
What
I
Know
Includes...

and it's used for lots more than just a virtual encyclopedia.

Alec's probably being sarcastic, because Wiki technology generally and Wikipedia specifically are a big deal. An easily-accessed, constantly updated universal encyclopedia saves tons of labor and research costs, and it's never out of date. I know people in the news media who use it constantly, dates and facts and names, biographical info. If you're working on deadline in a newsroom somewhere, and you need to know dates or whatever about Jett Travolta or somebody, searching elsewhere the Internet is inefficient.

I'm guessing turner does have a nustack so this is technically accurate. Whether or not he has any balls in that nutsack... I'll leave that kind of investigative journalism up to someone else (taco?).

That is awesome! I love wikipedia for its user editing. Bob had an entry and people changed it all the time.

Wikipedia took alotta flack for inaccurate info being posted in their early years. Like the hilarious student at Boston College who - after his Philosophy class was assigned to write a paper on Thomas Aquinas - quickly changed the Wikipedia page to include that Aquinas himself was a life-long cross-dresser who had "worked tirelessly for the rights of Renaissance-era transvestites." When half the papers turned in that semester included this information, of course it was pretty funny. CNN even did a story on it as I recall.... ROFL!

Wikipedia worked hard to correct the problem ... especially since 2002 when they started flagging IP addresses of malicious posters, and have even threatened prosecution under vandalism laws. Plus they now include a disclaimer atop the pages of entries whose accuracy is questioned.

Like all Wiki sites, Wikipedia is entirely dependent on user involvement, for information, and for the reporting of misinformation.

I rather enjoy my edit to the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Slowik portion of Wikipedia...

I decided to add he was a horrific DC and that he was already fired (aka 2008 was his last year).

It's not been changed since my edit a few days ago so I'm happy.
