View Full Version : Shanny May Sit out 2009

I didn't see a thread dedicated to this.
The fat guy on NBC at the half said unless Mike found the perfect situation he would likely sit out 2009 and come back in 2010.
I hope he does what's best for him and his family.
For the first time in my life, i'll be pulling for a 2nd team, whomever Shanahan coaches. There are provisions... it definitely can't be in the AFC West or teams I just flat out hate like Dallas.
I would love for Mike to take over a team like St. Louis or Detroit and turn them around. I don't see it happening though. I think his ego is padded enough with turning things around... he's going to find a stacked team and probably lead them back to a super bowl.
I could see Jacksonville firing Del Rio next year and Shanny sliding right into that situation. Mobile efficient QB, good running game, solid defense.
If Mike is smart he'll sit for a year

$7 mil to sit out is nice, but the guy probably doesn't need the money.
His kids are grown and out of the house. I'm sure he golfs plenty in the offseason. Guys like him can't sit still. Even a studio job would bore him to tears.

Even if he plans on coaching this year, he'll be smart to keep the threat of sitting out a year in the air to get the best possible offer.

Yeah I posted that in the Chargers vs Colts thread. Armstrong was saying that on the radio today too.
The one place that might be perfect enough is the Browns. They have a supposed franchise QB in Quinn and if they don't land Pioli they may very well hand over the keys to Shanahan.
