With Shanahan gone, there is a chance our STs will improve because hopefully the new coach will let defensive and offensive starters play STs like most other NFL teams.
O'Brien is largely considered the best ST coach in the league, its not him its talent. When your 2nd and 3rd stringers are playing STs and the opposition has their starters out there, well you get what you pay for.

Somewhere on here I posted a RMN article about what O'Brien was up against this season. The bottom line was that he had ZERO to work with. His STers were begin yanked every week to fill gaps in the rest of the team. IMO, it would be stupid to let him go. He's got a great rep, just give him the horses.

Why was Chad Jackson returning kicks over Eddie Royal against San Diego? I guaruntee that wasnt an O'Brien move.

Here's a novel idea; let the new coach decide.

Adios O'Brien. as far as i am concerned his scheme with the Buffalo game and having Jackson returning kicks in the finale sealed his fate.

I guess the team assumed they would be returning a lot of kickoffs against SD, so Jackson was in. No use wasting Royal out there in a lost cause.

Keep him. He's one of the best in the business.

Let his track record with the broncos speak for it's self. Let the new coach pick his guy.

I've seen nothing from this guy since he joined us - the special teams sucked before and continue to suck. It certainly seems that there are some on this board who are going to go with the "now that the dead hand of shanny is removed all will be well.." line but I don't buy it.
Ultimately, though, if we get the other coaching decisions right this will be less important - becuase a decent HC will be able to either create a better environment for O'Brien to flourish in or make an informed decision on whether he should be there in the first place or not.
...and in case the forgoing made no sense that makes me a fence-sitter who is leaning towards canning the schmuck... :-)

Those players could not even form a wedge. Bye.
