View Full Version : LT has groin tear per schefter
Bronx33

Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson has a detached tendon in his groin area that is so bad, doctors recommended that he have surgery this week, a league source said Saturday.
Tomlinson’s mood was especially down all week, according to a team source, and this might help explain why he was so glum. Tomlinson knows he is not well as these playoffs are getting ready to kickoff.
As much as Tomlinson is going to want to play Saturday night, the Chargers might have no choice but to shut him down to prevent him from doing further and more extensive damage to his groin. Tomlinson could try to play because he wants to, and because the specter of last season, when he didn’t finish the AFC Championship Game against New England due to a knee injury, followed him throughout the off-season.
But if he plays tonight, which is looking more and more uncertain, it is expected to be difficult for Tomlinson to be effective.

Sproles is better for this game anyway.
Miss I.
01-03-2009, 11:09 AM
Well he should sit it out if he wants to have any chance of a career next season. Besides Sproles is pretty decent so they are probably going to do fine without him. And unfortunately Phyllis is throwing pretty well so they will put up quite a game with or without LT. He should sit out and try to think long term. But I am watching the NFL channel and Marshall seems to think he should play with it since it's a playoff game. I dont' see how he can play at all well with a detached groin?

The McFarlane Statue will never die! It is almost Buddha statue-like. Sproles can carry the backside with Hester. I still see Colts winning this game as Manning had a very nice suggested hike today in San Diego.

Dungy owes Slowick.
My groin would be a bit sore too after rushing against a division II college defense the week before the playoff game.
Hester could of been the ballcarrier against us and we still would of lost big.

It's always pretty shocking when those guys that go undrafted because of their injury history get hurt in the NFL, isn't it?

Torain, Hillis and Pittman were not undrafted. I am not aware of an "injury history" with Pope, Aldridge or Hall preventing them from being drafted. So the only guy with an injury history that could have prevented him from being drafted is Young.
Good analysis.

I'm generalizing, but come on. You got Torain in the fifth or whatever it was for a reason. Aldridge was what, 160 pounds? Then you got 33 year old Pittman. And Pope, who managed to sprain both ankles in one game at Bowling Green. Give me a break. I don't know where Andre Hall went to school, but I bet it's more of the same.

I am thinking a decade of wear and tear have derailed LT. He may pop off a 1400 yard season and 15 td's again, but I doubt it. Safe bet for SD may be to keep Sproles and resign him...

Under normal circumstances, Young and Hall would have gotten the majority of carries, with the 33 year old Pittman in when we got inside the 20. However, this was obviously not a normal season. So instead we found out our 7th round draft pick can play HB, and that Pope may show more promise then we all thought. But you think we would have seen these guys if we didnt lose 7 running backs this year?
Its not about where the RB comes from, its about what they do when they get here. Its not like TCU is known for its high pedigree in relation to NFL running backs.

Didn't Hall get hurt last year, too? In retrospect, it was probably a poor idea to rely on him and Selvin Young as the primary rotation. ;D

Hindsight is 20/20. Young and Hall are not bad backs, just not 3 down RB's. Our offensive backfield was scarier than the plague this season.

I hope he sits. Sproles can do much more damage at 100% compared to a 50-75% Tomlinson.
LT has already proved this year that when he's injured, he's not nearly as effective (same can be said for Gates).
Man we are cursed. Last year we had a legitimate shot if not for Gates, Rivers, and LT ALL being injured.
And now Gates and LT are out. At least Rivers is still healthy.

I hope he doesn't play. We don't need any more "run straight up the middle for 1 yard gain" plays.
Regarding Volek, were you kidding or do you think he's better?
Rivers:

The important career stats:
Comp. % 62.3 to 59.7
TDs - INTs: 78/36 to 26/14
QB Rating: 92.9 to 84.9

I was talking about ( one game) you know the one you needed to win to advance to the big dance i think rivers hindered any ability to win that game.

you could have very well have lost this game if not for volek who came in to fend off a surging colts when rivers went out with an injured hymen volek played fantastic and didn't lose a beat to get the chargers the win. But sadly norv goes with hobbled rivers and lost the game vs the pats, rivers threw zero TDs and 2 INTs.
Norm goes with a 55% rivers vs a healthy volek

Ah. Yes, knowing the extent of Rivers' injury now, he probably should have sat. That's a tough call though. Injured starter or rusty backup?
In LT's case, if Norv has any brains he should sit LT. Sproles, for this one game, will be a capable backup. Get Sproles the ball in space and watch him run around everyone, he's like the Energizer Bunny
