No, the OU Florida game is going to be the best. The might be the second best of the games, but then again the OSU/UT game looks pretty promising too. No it doesnt, UT will kill OSU.

Nothing. Texas will probably handle Ohio St (I guess we'll see), and they're already in front of SC. As is Bama. There will be a group of very good 1 loss teams, but nobody will jump the winner of the title game. Just don't see it happening.

Its kind of ironic to hear SC fanboys complain about the system considering the same system punched their ticket in 2004. That season, Oklahoma, Auburn and USC were all undefeated coming down the stretch. Because USC was ranked #1 at the beginning of the season, they remained there while Auburn and Oklahoma would slide if they had close games. For USC close games didnt matter. Case in point, in their final game vs UCLA, USC fumbled and UCLA was on their way to returning it for a FG or a TD just before the half but the refs claimed they blew the play dead even though there was a sound boom right there and nothing was heard. The play was a 6-10 point swing and I think USC won that game by 5. Had they not been gifted that call, there was a good chance they would have lost. But did they slide as OU or Auburn would have? No. But if USC would have been held to the same rules that OU and Auburn were (ie youre penalized for close games), it could/should have been Auburn and OU in the NC game.

So its really ironic to hear any USC fan crying foul about "the system".

I still wish we would have taken Reggie Nelson 2 years ago. Maybe Spags will get more out of some of the guys we currently have on the roster though. Thats what he is known for (according to a piece that was posted recently). I agree we need a S though. Its just that theres sufficient depth in the 2-3 range, plus Id like the defense to go to being built from front to back.

Whenever the Pac 10 and Big 10 get over this stupid bowl allegiance stuff and USC decides to schedule at least one upper echelon school outside of their conference (preferably against a real school in the SEC or Big 12 ON THE ROAD because those pussies wont play away from home), maybe I will start to believe their success is not predicated on the fact that they play in the softest conference in football and rarely leave their own time zone and NEVER against a great opponent.

If you had been watching the beginning of this game you would have seen Musberger take that argumentapart. He showed a bunch of matchups that showed the PAC 10 won the majority of games vs. the SEC.

The SEC leads the Pac-10 59-37-5 (.609). However, over the past 10 years (1998 - 2007), the Pac-10 actually leads the SEC 9-6 (.600).

The Trojans thought they had this game won and went to sleep.

Clay will make a good NFL player. He knows what work ethic and adversity are. Plus he seems to have good instincts on the field. It will be interesting to see if he can be as productive as his father. Wouldn't mind seeing him play for the Broncos.q

USC's home game bowl win against the most overrated team in the top 10 is not impressive to me Rohirrim.

Where did you come up with that BS from? None of it is true. Actually, it's a very silly post.

I'm not a USC fan. Actually, I hate them (I went to UCLA). I hate that USC is so damn good.

You're wrong when you say that they don't travel. During the Pete Carroll era they've traveled to SEC schools, and won. They won big at both Auburn and Arkansas (the year they won at Arkansas that team made the SEC Championship game). They scheduled Ohio St. They are traveling there next year. Usually USC schedules one big time school, one cream puff, and Notre Dame is always on the schedule. Notre Dame is supposed to be good.

A lot of those SEC schools won't travel outside their region. You think LSU or Florida is about to put USC on their schedule? Hell no! USC would put them on their schedule.

I'll give the SEC credit as being the toughest conference. But at the same time, they schedule really easy non-conference games. How many of them play D I-AA schools? USC never does. SEC schools usually do not travel out of their region for non-conference games.

In another post you said that Florida and a couple other schools would kill USC. Ah, who has killed USC in the Pete Carroll era? Nobody. Nobody at all! The few games that USC has lost have all been extremely close losses. And the team outside of the PAC 10 to beat USC since they really got it going is Texas, who needed a super human performance out of Vince Young to win the game. The PAC 10 usually gives USC the most problems. When they play non-conference the games are usually blowouts, including against the SEC.

I'd say that if they played Florida, Alabama, Oklahoma, or Texas, it would be a great game. I'd put my money on USC, but I could see them losing. But losing in a blowout? Anybody who would think that is just dumb.

Damn, Taylor Mays can lay the wood.

I took this photo at last year's Rose Bowl game.

This is true. I get as sick of them as the next person--the smiling celebrity QBs, the constant ESPN lovefest, the superstar "fans" on the sideline...all of it. But you have to respect it. As a college football fan you have to.

Carroll by every account really is that nice of a guy. I saw the 60 minutes special about his volunteer work fighting gang violence. The players love him. He's probably the best recruiter in the country. Yeah it is an easy destination to recruit to, but it wasn't that easy when he got there. He has made it a destination.

And they are open about welcoming any and all challengers. They know the knock on the Pac-10, and I do think they try to schedule a non-con that makes up for it. It's hard to find a lot of top tier teams that want to face an SC in non-con--SEC, Big XII schools hate to take a loss early with a brutal conference schedule ahead. Still, they've gotten Ohio State for a couple years. Before that they had a slumping Nebraska, but that is hardly USC's fault we sucked.

Anyway, I understand the hate. It's frustration. It comes from hearing about them way too much on ESPN. And ESPN does overhype them (literally dedicating a month to declaring the 2005 squad the "Greatest Team of All-Time" before the Rose Bowl...which they lost to Texas). But the talent Carroll has consistently brought in, the wins he has produced in the BCS, and the class he has done it with are undeniable. They are the defining program of the decade so far.

And all I can say is, thank God for Oregon St (twice), Stanford, and Texas or they'd be even more decorated than they already are.
