View Full Version : Let's Hope That Bowlen Doesn't Screw This Up

That means:
No cronies. Which means no GM or HC with old ties to the Broncos. No Fassel. No 'Dinger. No Kubiak. We need new blood.
No amateurs as GM. Which means no Elway. No Goodmans. We need a real, proven, experienced GM to rework our front office. Let the Goodmans learn under a Pioli or Parcells.
No, "we're just one person away" approach. Which means not simply hiring a HC and leaving the front office essentially as is. We need a clean break from past debacles. Keep Turner and maybe Dennison; the rest of the coaching and training staff must go. Keep the Goodmans as asst. GMs; the rest of the front office must go.
My fear is that Bowlen tries to do this on the cheap. Hires a HC and then lets Elway play GM. Which would be a disaster. This franchise needs a full reboot, not a tweak. And Bowlen needs to seize this opportunity. A Pioli or a Parcells as GM. Plus a Spags or Ferentz. Be bold.

That's probably the scariest scenario I've heard. We don't want Elway anywhere near the front office.

Do your own thoughts scare you much? LOL
You have a lot of demands for someone who doesn't own stock.

Seeing as how the Goodman's are a big reason for our recent drafts I have no issue with them taking the GM spot.

The nearest you will get is as a season ticket holder.....otherwise, you're not a stockholder.
If you think posting 'I hate Shanahan' threads makes you a stockholder.....you're really delusional.
Spending time in a fan board means you're a fan, not a stockholder.
But keep dreaming.

I'd be comfortable with Elway so long as its a mentorship learning position of how to become a GM over lets say 3-5 year period.

You must admit....those are some good points!!!
Only if you think Bowlen is an incompetent retard. ;D
Seriously. Bowlen is running a business, an $800 million franchise.
He's a smart man who just made a very tough decision that he knew would garner criticism from the Broncos fan base and NFL talking heads.
There really is no need to talk down to him, it's his franchise and so far he's made a lot of sound decisions.
Telluride has spent most of his time here demanding Shanahan be fired.
Now that it's happened, he wants to dictate who the next HC will be and who will be the new GM and insists the front office be fired.
You only get to make those demands when you own stock.
Telluride owns no stock.
Oh, and there was no need to start another thread on the topic....it's being beaten to death elsewhere.

Sweet, another new thread with your opinion to go with everyone else's new thread with their opinion on the coaching/GM search.
Maybe someone in the future should just make a single thread with everyone's opinion on the direction they think the franchise should go?

I stopped taking this post seriously when you commented that Goodman is an amateur.
Oh and according to your standards, Bowlen has already screwed up because he said, emphatically, that the front office would remain intact.

People are dreaming if they think a single thread is going to be able to contain the thoughts of such a diverse fan base. I'd be here 24 hours a day merging threads. People are going to have to get used to the idea that it's going to be very "stream of consciousness" around here (and everywhere else for that matter) until we get some solid ground back under us.

If 50% of the stream of consciousness posts weren't generated by complete buffoons who don't take the time to research their facts and present well thought out opinions, this would be a much more informative board.

Public scorn pretty much does most of the moderating around here. I'm just the guy with the broom, a spray bottle, and a squeege.

Just being smart enough to use the search function would help and changing the title a little doesn't make it different fact is people don't care if they are posting the same thing over and over and over.

You're customers, not stockholders. If you own a Chevy truck, a hat, jacket and bumper sticker, it doesn't make you a stockholder, it makes you a customer.
If you own GM stock, you are a stockholder.
Same here. You are a 'customer' of the Denver Broncos, not a stockholder.

Why everyone wants Goodman to be GM??
I understand that the Drafts are good for the past 2 years.
But, it is good only on offensive side.
He and Mike are horrible in drafting Defensive players.
We need to hire experienced GM.

I would like to add "No Former Patriots" to this list. First it was Weiss. Then it was "Man Genius" and Crennell... Now it's McDaniels. It's fairly likely, at this point, that the Patriots success has been due to Belichick all along.

We need to hire experienced GM.
Jim Goodman has a diverse and strong resume in every aspect of football, he's been our VP of Football Operations/Player Personnel since Sundquist was fired.
Also, Larsen, Woodyard, and Barrett look like real good value for where they were taken. You can't blame the FO for Shanahan being unwilling to spend high picks on D, or (like in 2007) making a pick based on what a coach wanted.
Goodman has experience and he's got two young, experienced assistant GMs behind him. The FO is as qualified as it gets, no need to screw with it.

But the level of difficulty that it took to fire Shanahan tells you how serious he takes this obligation. We cannot ask for more.

Bah. His firing of Shanahan was flippant. The fact that he doesn't really have a plan in place to seat a GM shows that.
There's no reason to praise Bowlen for firing a HOF coach until we see what he does with it.
