and thats the truth....bowlen is circling the question 100%, but his final answer will always be "it was time for a change"

i think, reading between the lines, shanny started to think this was HIS team and not pats, and pat wanted to make it known that it is his team. something had to happen in the back that well never know about that made caused some confusion about who owns and controls this team, and pat wanted everyone to know whos team it was.

Bowlen said just that: "I'm the one running the show"

Actually, Pat did say why he was fired. He did not win a superbowl in 11 seasons and he thought they were far from it with Shanahan not making the playoffs for 3 years. Mike also understood its about winning superbowls, not being average over time....

Ya but that's the easy response to the media i think there may a little bit more to the final decision.

There is always more to the situation, and there were more than a few inconsistencies in their comments telling us we did not and never will get the full picture.

Think of it like a jury trial. Most times both sides present completely different views of what happened and the jury has to determine the facts and figure out what really happened. Except in this case, they reached a plea agreement since they are so close and presented a united front that leaves everyone smelling like roses and puts both in the best possible light. The real facts never came close to hitting the floor, just the convenient truths. The convenient truth is that Bowlen thought Shanahan was not going to win another Superbowl in DEN anytime soon, and Mike agreed his past few teams did not have that chance.

Wow look at those black Helicopters circling over head.

Why can it not just be time for a change? I have been the General Manager at my job for 6 years. With the Company for 10. I am begining to think Both I and the company need a change. I am stuck in a Rut and have no other new Ideas to offer. Sometimes you need new perspective. Why must it be more sinister?

He felt the team had been floundering long enough. If Shanahan is going to stick behind guys like Slowik, then its time to step in. He sees the team like the rest of us and its really tough to sell Slowik as something besides one of Shanahan's buddies. Im sure it was painful for Pat to watch a professional football team play that way.

What I saw was when Pat started out he seemed cold toward Mike even angry about something but as the conference went on pat seemed to soften toward his long time friend. The more I reflect about it there did seem to be something stuck in the craw of Pat but like the thread starter said I doubt we will ever know.

I really don't think this was about Slowik

You didn't even have to hear the press conference to know. You look at our record and where we're at and it's clear it was time to move on to Pat. This had nothing to do with Pat "showing everyone who's the boss" at all. This was about not winning.

Pat has a responsibility to the fans and even above that it's a business.

Even if I hated this move like alot here do. Bowlen has a right to make changes if he see's fit. I commend him for taking a stand and wanting a new direction.

One thing Mark S brought up on ESPN is about Atl and Miami is their fast turnaround might have factored in Pat's decision. I hope Pat understands
both their D's are alot better then ours is so 1 yr turnaround will be impossible.

The Atlanta Falcons have the 24th ranked defense in the league. It sucks.

Baltimore is another story.

Chances are that Bowlen has been thinking about the whole situation, every day, for a long time. And he probably had lots of pros and cons that he carefully weighed in his own head and with those closest to him. And there may be other factors that we know nothing about. So I doubt that it was "an instinctual" move. But he probably doesn't feel like going into every aspect of his reasoning (which would be picked apart by fans and the press). It's easier for him to say, "I'm in charge; this is my gut call; maybe I'm wrong, but this is what I'm doing." Period. Now bring me another drink.

We hadn't one more than 1 playoff game, much less a SB in 10 years.

In any other normal universe, Bowlen wouldn't need to explain "why" Shanahan was fired. It's pretty apparent.
