We could sign all kinds of big money free agents this offseason, but if they have to play in Slowiks scheme that he employed this season, I don't care who you have out there, this defense will still suck. It's all in the scheme that's being employed. And to think this guy is being retained after head coaches have been fired for doing a lot less, and with our schedule next season, I see 6-10 at best. Slowik needs to be fired and a good attack scheme employed for this defense.

I just can't believe that Shanahan is going to go to war with this guy(slowik) once again after the debacle of this seasons defense, and pass on good coordinators like Crennel, Williams and Ryan. It just bogles the mind, Shanny must be going senial.

I would hire Crennel or Williams in a heartbeat.

Why hire two guys who have done nothing but fail the past few seasons? It's what we did with Slowik and look what's happened.

Just throw in a blitz or 30! I'd rather see the defense go down in a ball of flames rather than burn a slow death from a bunch of midgets setting their toes on fire one at a time.

It's not the scheme it's the players. Slowik tried many different approaches and none of the worked. It's the talent not the scheme.

Bingo...doesn't matter what type of D you play if you don't have the players you could have the greatest defensive scheme in the world and still get beat by any team. We need a front 4 that can get pressure w/o a blitz and LB's who can maintain their gaps and not overpursue on every damn running play. Then his 10 yard cushion wouldn't seem as stupid. But since we can't get any pressure the Qb's can just sit back and carve us up.

There's no question that the talent needs to be upgraded. However, Slowik needs to be shown the door. It's obvious that he and Shanahan are playing the "we need consistency" on the defense card. I find it repulsive to hear Slowik, the day after one of the worst losses in Broncos history, saying the the defense just needs more consistency (of course lobbying for his job in the process). Where was the consistency when they were switching off from 4-3 to 3-4 to 4-4 on a weekly basis? Let me put it this way, if Slowik was a money manager for a mutual fund that consistently underperformed the market to historically poor levels, would shareholders bring him back just for consistency's sake? Doubtful, but my money wouldn't be there and my money won't be with the Broncos (in the form of tickets, merchandise, etc) until they set a higher standard on the defensive side of the ball. This defense needs a total reconstruction job starting with the coach and extending to every player....no player should be considered untouchable including Bailey. That dude was burnt toast on Sunday night on more than one occassion (and I know he was playing injured but who wasn't). I felt bad for him because he is one of the best, but in Slowik's scheme he has made him burnt toast. At this point I've given up on Shanahan doing anything about this mess and I'm holding Bowlen accountable for this fiasco. For now I guess we have more slow "ick" to look forward to.

As I'm sure you know, Slowik was really the acting D coordinator for the last half of the 2007 season. So, Slowik has had a season and a half, with a full offseason that produced the garbage we saw this past season.

It is the scheme if you ask me, I saw these same players go after the offense during that Buffalo first quarter and I said, I haven't seen this aggressiveness since the Coyer all out blitzes in '05. I knew we could do it, the players we had were dictating and being aggressive, and then for reasons unknown, everything stopped. We went right back to the vanilla scheme that has made these players look bad all year and we lost to Buffalo and brought the same scheme to San Diego and boy did our players look bad. It's the approach and scheme employed. Slowick plays a passive read and react defense and that's what got us killed. He needed to be aggressive and in your face which didn't happen. HE NEEDS TO BE FIRED.
