Thanks for taking an undermanned, untalented (on defense), rag tag bunch and keeping them relevant for all 16 weeks of the season. Many teams were irrelevant by week 6--right Raiders and Chiefs?

Playing for the division in Week 17 with 7 RBs on IR is an impressive feat... a lot of teams would have collapsed into the cellar after losing half that many.

We managed to lose to both those irrelevant teams...

Yeah the RB situation affected us so much on defense. If we would have had them we only would have lost 51-13.

How many punts did you see Spider? I can recall one maybe two all night (after the game was over). The simple fact is when you don't stop someone everytime they touch the ball you ain't gonna win. tatum looked decent running the ball last night and the defense still did nothing. I know you were just as mad as I was watching that crap last night why do you want to give Shanny a pass today?

He did a remarkable job this year despite what some may think. 17 players on IR, people.

Maybe it's because he doesn't feel Shanny is responsible for the defense biting on play action EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. Is Shanahan the reason DJ had to fix his glove in the middle of pursuit?

LOL knock it off , seriously , everyone knows you leave a defense to long on the field they wear down , think back to when we had TD , long drives , time consuming , power football in the redzone , you wont get far by passing alot ....

Actually our defense stayed fairly intact and the guys that did come in (Woodyard, Larsen etc) played better than our starters. We weren't undermanned and the lack of talent falls on the coaches who drafted Crowder, Moss, Paymah and everyone else that doesn't measure up. The Patriots had key guys go down this year as well and they embarassed us as well. How can anyone be an apologist after watching that crap last night???

Stop making excuses for the defense last night. They were terrible period. Run game, pass game...doesn't matter they were horrid and Shanny says that evening we are keeping our DC. There were too many pass plays but that doesn't forgive the egg the D layed.

Let's not pretend that Tatum Bell was a practice squad scrub...he was Shanahan's #2 draft pick and was kicked out of town because Mike outsmarted himself and thougth he could just plug 'n play another UDFA in his place. Bell was a 1000 yard back in this offense and so having him in there instead of Selvin Young was was not really a drop off. You can make an argument for Hillis making a difference but the rest of those guys...no big loss.
We're losing because we can't find talent on defense and we can't play special teams. Who's fault is that?

Not making excuses , just laying out the facts , doubt my story ?See Drew brees and the Saints..... even go back further Dan no Ringo and the Miami Dolphins ........ hell even Warner and the Rams had Marshal Faulk and they , well we all know their story ..........

Honestly I was always envious of the Broncos offense under Shanahan. I always wondered what kind of numbers Brees and LT would have put up under his system. It just always seemed so balanced. We never could handle the naked boot play action until we switched to a 3-4. With Cutlers mobility and your improving o-line if you get a decent RB it could be scary again.

No your right Shanny bares no responsibility for his team, their discipline or how they play.

Naw , bell got cut cause he cant grind out the tough Yardage ...... you have ot be able to get the tough yards lined up in the I formation and run T2T , you cant do that , you are gone ,I like Bell , but he should just stick to being a situational and down back .......

I can buy that a running game makes a difference in conjunction with a solid functional defense, not arguing that but Tatum had 86 yards and 2 TDs last night and the defense wasn't even close.

well we wanted to make sure the Chargers really knew how to defend the screen last night ;D
But last night was a perfect example of what I am talking about , to many 3 and outs on our offense , we needed to extend the drives ....... Passing for 1 st is great , but Running for 1 st downs is better ..........we didnt wear down the Charger defense at all

Spider I'm in complete agreement that our offensive gameplan sucked all I'm saying is the defensive gameplan sucked even more. I'm quite confident our defense would have given up points everytime the Chargers were on the field last night whether we had TD in the backfield or not.

when we held then to a fg , our first drive 4 plays out of the shotgun 1 run play , 4 more plays from the gun then a 26 yard TD run 8-2 pass ratio ....... I know our defense is weak , Shanny knew it also , so what do you do ? wear down their defense , make them as weak as youres ..........

I have a better idea, get your best LBs in the game and throw the kitchen sink at Rivers. I'm no defensive guru but wasn't it obvious the scheme used sucked. No blitzes, the same vanilla package play after play watching them burn us. Take a chance I mean what do you have to lose, it was clear what they were doing wasn't working yet absolutely no adjustments.

Pittman and Hall both looked good prior to their injuries... and Torain won the Rookie of the Week award, as did Hillis. If any of those backs had been able to remain healthy, Bell would still be selling cell phones and we all know it.
