So in the wake of this defeat I wanted to throw some praise on a guy who catches his fair share of stuff, but Tatum Bell played his butt off tonight and deserves a camp invite to Dove Valley. With Peyton Hillis, Ryan Torain and Anthony Alridge next year's likely tailbacks; and Selvin Young and Andre Hall still on the roster as well, Tatum would be a long shot to make the squad - but in a game when the Broncos laid a huge egg, I'm proud of what the guy overcame to play his best game in a few years.

good for taters. it should help his ego if nothing else
I loved seeing the toss pitch right play back in the offense! The shovel passes where nice also.
I still think Tater has a future in Denver. Maybe not an every down back, but a speller and 3rd down guy.

He played very well tonight. He should get a shot just like everyone else to make this team.
The guy played with about 10 x the heart any of the defensive players showed. It was nice to see. Makes you wonder what if with him.

I gave him props in another thread. He was our second best player tonight and he showed some heart!
Thank you Tatum!

I'm fine with a Hillis-Bell-Alridge backfield next year. Just use the picks on defense please!

Agreed. Tatum was a bright spot on a rather dark day. Both Touchdown runs were probably his best runs of his career. He made decisive cuts on both, and on the first one he actually made a move on a safety and did not trip over his own feet. I have never seen him make a move on a safety like that before. That was vintage bronco running game.

bell and hillis are good to go...it's the other 4 openings the broncos should work on starting from scratch

He almost fell though. He runs weird, but I like him in tonights role.

I wanted to start a post on this earlier ,but had to help out w/ dinner first..so I just quickly typed this : WTG Tatum.
* I would like to acknowledge a player on Offense that I thought sacked up and played well. I've always gave him grief over the years, but Tatum Bell deserves some props imo. Dont know if he will be around next year , but I know a bunch of our rb's that wont.. hopefully.

Tatum should make the team over Young and Hall (and Alridge and Torain right now). I don't think we'll see those 2 around next season. He's a great change of pace back and has the ability to break off some long runs, but he's just not an every down back even though he played with great heart tonight. We need a bruiser Brandon Jacobs/Mike Anderson type to go along with Tater.

we have a bruiser. Hillis. Him getting injured made a lot of people forget quickly how good he was. TD every game he started I think, and 5 yards a carry. Don't pay (overpay) for Ward or JAcobs when we have Hillis

It's free agency, you have to overpay to get someone that's the nature of the beast. Denver has plenty of cap room that they won't use up either pretty much regardless of who they sign.
Also, it's not your money that's being spent.

Bell did well today, he actually put in some fevered effort...too bad he just didn't realize that management looks at the seasonal performance and not just a one game effort - moron! I'm pissed he didn't show this kind of effort all season.

He never really got a chance, Shanny was too busy playing musical chair running backs. Young was getting carries went they shouldv'e been going to Bell on toss sweeps like we saw tonight.

Yeah, I gave Tatum props in the game thread. Considering what he went through this year, from being cut by the LIONS of all teams, ridiculed nationally for maybe doing something idiotic with lugage to selling phones for a living to being thrown into the fire, I thought he had a great attitude. He tried. And tonight, it paid off pretty well. He deserves a spot next year. Cut Young and Hall in the offseason, bring Hillis/Tatum/Pittman/FA/Aldridge to camp and stash Torain somewhere untill he is healthy.

Ummmm, no.
Scrap all of the current option at tailback already. It's unproductive and not working.

In what had to be a humbling year for him in all sorts of ways, I was really glad to see him finish with a performance that he could be proud of. Given the final score those two runs might not get much airtime, but they were beautifully executed. Thanks for showing up Tatum.

I've been one of his biggest critics but i do have to admit that he looked VERY good tonight. I'd be willing to give him a legit shot at quality playing time for next year as long as he hangs onto the ball.

Tatum, from one of your biggest critics, thank you for a solid effort, and I hope to see you back next year. In the meantime, can you please tell Bmarsh and Cuter just how easy it is to find yourself out of the NFL?

Tatum has always done well in SD. He scored in the 04 game in the rain. He had a few big runs in the '06 bloodbath and enjoiyed one of his best games ever tonight.

Where do you fall into for production at the mane? Should we excuse it for being a beginning drinker and just drunk again is this really something that should come from you knowing your background? I have gone through your post tonight just to see if it is from one post or two but they are all pretty bad. Put the computer away for the night and rethink this again in the morning or better yet, wait until next season.

sitting in the endzone seats tonight, those moves got me thinking back to the TD era. He had vision and saw the holes. If the game stayed close, the running game could have been a factor.

This is worth mentioning. It always bothered me that after dwill's death we kick Tatum and Javon to the curb when it was obvious neither one of them was over it. I mean, I know it's a business and all, but it did not feel good to be a Broncos fan after that.
I always thought Tatum was a good 3rd/change-of-pace guy.....just not a good everydown back. I'd welcome him back next season as long as he's not the featured back (and he realizes that).

huh? We signed Javon to an extension after D-wil's death and then he went into the tank and was released the year after. Tatum was traded.

Well, thats cuz unlike everyone on the defense, he knows he is going to be the 7th or 8th guy on the depth chart at his position going into next year. He wants a J-O-B that doesnt include slinging phones at the mall and answering crank calls from all you mopes. I am sure he will get a chance to prove himself in camp next year.

I think we pitched the ball outside to him three times all year and he broke off huge runs in all three. Sometimes I think Shanahan is crazy.
Nice thread. Im also among those who are happy for him.

He needs to fix his TD celebration if he stays... both times he just chucked the ball straight forward.. almost hitting a cameraman.

He was, by far. Unfortunately, most people around here are too busy watching the ball to notice stuff like that. Although they wouldn't really know what to look for anyways.

Hillis + Bell + Aldridge + Darren Sproles?
Sproles would be amazing in Denver. First of all, we wouldn't get skewered by him twice a year. Secondly, we might have a decent kick off return unit for once. And he's great insurance.
... but yes Tatum played well tonight. He likes to play the Chargers!

I like it. Hell that celebration and Marshall asking for the ball just to throw it to the moon was the most fire we showed all night.

Agreed. He also got jobbed on the 'chop block'. He was already committed to taking the guy out when Wiegmann peeled off suddenly and engaged the guy high. Tatum came to play for sure, he was on Sunday. 21 and 37 yd TD runs, some good work between the tackles, damn good stuff.
