this is not a playoff competitive team, and i hope this team wins this game as much as anyone. but the broncos offense looks great again, cutler is playing pretty well (minus the cross body throw)
the defense is absolutely abysmal, we knew taht going into this game. a few playmakers and a DC away from being good, and back to the top in 2009/2010.
if we win this game, we make the playoffs and get blown out by someone. it wuld be nice to make the playoffs, but the fact that this team, as bad as the defense is, is competing for a playoff spot is pretty amazing.

I mean, maybe the offense isn't perfect, but compared to the defense, it's immaculate.

yep. i just wanted to see improvement, and on D it hasnt come all year. the offense is good enough that with any sort of mediocre defense, they wuld win more games. they are a RB away from being better. slowick hasnt made a single adjustment all year long and i dont know why, he knows what doesnt work but wont do anything to fix it.
im excited for 2009, the fact shanny got this team to 8-8 is a testament to how good he is.

So are the Broncos a bad team or do we just need one or two defensive playmakers? Which is it? Because it can't be both. Pick one and run with it.

This team isn't that far away at all, the most difficult positions have been filled and filled extraordinarily well. Health at RB and a few upgrades on D is all that is required. Three solid improvements on D gives Cutler the ball 3-4 more times a game.

Seriously? So now the playoffs are good enough? So if Denver won yesterday you would be praising Shanahan? Are you that fickle?
Funny the different standards that people hold for other teams.
Look at how you are acting after a .500 season with a VERY young team. Imagine if your team just went 1-15? You'd probably have a heart attack.

My god you're so lost! Let me try to explain as simply and succinctly as possible...
It's not about this year in a vacuum. It's about the last 10 years. We've only had 4 playoff appearances in 10 years, and only 1 playoff win in 10 years. I shouldn't have to repeat myself but I'm hoping repetition will get through to you. You can't achieve anything in this league if you don't make the playoffs. Making the playoffs means you're a competitive, better than average team. Instead we've missed the playoffs 3 straight years and 6 out of the last 10. All you Pollyannas want to believe the "we're only a couple of players away" nonsense but it's just that: nonsense. Our defense is an absolute train wreck and the people running the show have no idea what's wrong or how to fix it. That and they have shown no ability how to get good players on the defensive side of the ball. Every unit of our defense needs to be upgraded. That can't be done in one offseason without a lot of luck. Please, for the love of god, see what's right in front of you.

Are you kidding? Holy sh*t dude. Talk in circles more.
I'll spell this out for you...
You gave the Dolphins as your example of a model franchise....not me. Maybe you gave a sh*tty example, and now you want to take it back, but that's your problem. As you like, let's look at the big picture...the Dolphins haven't been in the playoffs since 2001. Your example of a model franchise has now been to the playoffs 4 times in the last 10 years. The same as the Broncos. But Miami has not made it to the AFC championship game since 1991...17 years. Denver was there 3 years ago. Yes, what Miami did this year was impressive, but any team can have a one year wonder. Look at the Jets from 2 years ago.
Also, it's convenient that you cut it off your research at 10 years. Hmm. Shouldn't be look at Shanahan's entire tenure in Denver? Or would you like to specifically exclude the years that they won Super Bowls? That's convenient for your argument but...
Shanahan has been the HC in Denver for 14 years. Denver has made the playoffs in 7 of those years. They went to 3 AFC championship games and won 2 Super Bowls. Yes, the past couple years have been rough, but the team is young and the offense is set for years to come...something that seems to be lost when people discuss Denver right now. Hopefully the defensive issues will be addressed and if they are not, it's ultimately Shanahan's fault.
Do you realistically believe that the Broncos should be in the playoffs and contend for the Super Bowl every year?

I don't remember anyone saying SB with this team in 08. Yeah we did make strides but, we also regressed on D esp. We just question moves a DC that seems lost. I think if Shanny backed off his ego and get a DC that is creative and good at pushing and can see talent all of us would back off Shanny. Wrong. I gave the Dolphins and Falcons as examples of teams that turned it around in one year, and also of teams that rebuilt with new coaches.
Both these teams put together winning seasons after very dismal seasons... meaning they had higher draft picks to work with and also a (relatively) easy schedule. Many teams respond well to a new coach for a year or 2, but it's not necessarily and indicator of long term success....look at the Jets. Every team is going to have some down years. For the Broncos, 2005 was really exciting. I'm not forgetting it and I think it's a matter of time and patience before the Broncos get there again.
What I've enjoyed during Shanahan's tenure is that there is NO year where the playoffs are out of the question. You can't say that about many coaches.
I really do understand what your saying about wanting a new coach. I just don't agree. Can you deal with that?
Would you like me to cut off at 5? Or 3? It gets worse, not better, if I do. Ten years is a long time. The point is what have we done since the Super Bowls? WAKE UP!
I would rather that NOT cut it off at all. I'd rather that you look at the whole tenure. Did you not enjoy the 2 Super Bowls? Did you not enjoy the run in 2005? Just because you are pissed about this team doesn't make what they did in the past any more impressive.
Please pull your head out of your backside and go read Woody Paige's article in the Denver Post today.

team improvement. we went 8-8 and almost got the afcw. the offense is fine, we have a starting running back (hillis/torain). the defense has good enough players to NOT be dead last if we had a different coordinator, especially after some moves are made this year.

If you want to look at the Dolphins, I will tell you what. The Dolphins are a long way away from being a Super Bowl Contender. They do not have a long time solution at QB, WR are average, offensive scheme is a gimmick. They have the fewest turnovers, barely any key injuries. They are a flash in the pan. Denver's offense is set to be scary for years to come, we just need a defense. How many turnovers did we cause this year? Sacks? Our defense made our offense press, because it felt it had to score every time they had the ball.

I can see where you would enjoy the way this team is playing. You obviously have very low standards. Some of us have been watching this team for over thirty years and have seen Broncos players in the past who played with fire in their guts. Players like TD, Atwater, Elway, Mecklenburg, Fletcher, Dennis Smith, etc. etc. etc. This current crop doesn't come close. The standard has dropped around here. Precipitously.

I don't necessarily disagree, but can you argue that they're further away than we are? Clearly they're currently a better team overall and a good defense covers up a lot of problems. You can't compete in this league without a defense. You just can't.

And if you think this defense is one or two players away then you really haven't been paying attention.
Did you miss the Titans game last year? They went from a very good defense with Haynesworth. To a below average D with out him. Or For another case in point how about the Colts of 2 years ago. Jags Rushed for 275 yards against them with out Bob Sanders then in the Play offs with Bob Sanders Whole different Defense. SO Please tell me again how One or two players don't make a difference.
