View Full Version : If you were to script the first 5-10 plays of Sunday's game....

Alright.. enough defense talk. Broncos tend to do better when they have an early jump on offense and score in the first two possessions. Without an edge like that, it'll be hard to climb back in an intense away game.
So assuming the score is 0 0 and the Broncos get the ball on the 20 yard line; with our current running back situation and everybody else full speed, how would YOU (as Shanny) script the first 5-10 plays? You can either be specific or just break them down.
Deep pass mixed in with play action? Who knows. I just know we'll have to be a little creative like we saw in the first 2 weeks, when everybody lauded his playcalling.

I'd go with either a true balanced offense, or completely ditch the running game.
None of this pissing away a down every 5th snap to pretend like we're balanced.
Out of the 2, I'd choose to go with a singleback set out of the shotgun almost every down w/ the standard drop back and pass plays. Put the ball in the hands of our best player, and if we lose, at least we gave ourselves a chance.
Oh, and run that play where we put Marshall in motion to form trips and a quick strike and let him use his blockers and his strength. We used to run that play with Rod, and it worked everytime. We did it once this year to Marshall, and got a TD.
Defensively, do what we did in the 1st half to Philly in 2005. We played 11 at the line (sometimes 10 if champ was off), and every play was going to be a big one for one of the two sides. Time to play to win. If they beat us, make them at least beat us.

A heavy dose of Cory Boyd will cure what ails 'em.

the first 15 plays aren't the problem it's the next 30 or so, shanny gets dumbfounded
I don't think it's the scripted plays that will be the problem. We usually do quite well there. It's the rest of the plays you need to figure out what you are going to call.
I think the key to this game is how well Cutler can find 2nd and 3rd options that are open rather then forcing the ball to Marshall when he is double covered. The offense needs to be almost perfect on Sunday. No TO's at all. Need to score 32 points to win I believe.
If the Broncos offense plays great and the defense at least forces a few FG's......
Broncos 34
Chargers 31

If we are going to run then we need to use pitches and toss sweeps to get Tatum Outside (where he likes to go anyway.) Boyd up the middle.
We will have to run some to keep the defense honest, and not dropping 7-8 back into coverages.
The first play will be a pass though ! Just to keep our chances low , it will be play action, since they'll be respecting the run so much.

no point in pretending like we have a running game if we dont. pass on em quick and early, they are horrible at defending the pass.

If we happen to get in a 4th down and 5 yards or less to go, and its in the in between distance where Prater tends to Choke for a f/g, run a fake , he's got to be faster than Elam. Shanahan doesnt pull out alot of trick plays, but whatever can turn potential 3 pts. to 7 points, we need to do it on Sunday night. Time to be creative, to compensate for our lack of run game and out physical the *** out of them. I wish we had Romanowski for one series in his prime to knock Rivers into oblivion ! :sunshine:

All I know is I would spread Graham/Marshall/Schef at medium depth, and have Royal/Slot Machine ripping routes and let the TE/Marshall let JAY get into a rhythm... I think SD wouldn't know which way to flow with immediacy and strength of Jay's throws...
run the first 15 plays than never run again
