If we win this one, I'm buying the whole ensemble... The hat. The shirt. Cufflinks, if they have them. Us fans earned every tchotcky that they can produce this season with all the injuries and heartbreak and whatnot... Not to take away from the players who are paying the price out there, but damned if this isn't one of the more agonizing seasons that I can remember enduring. Probably because it's fresh and present...
We need to win on Sunday.

SD is going to break it off inside and then laugh all the way.
We had our chances and don't deserve to win.

I'm not holding my breath re: the AFC West championship gear.
In the end, though, this is probably the most just result. I think they've (SD) played better, despite finding ways to lose in the last minute. I think they're a better ballclub and they earned it more. It's just so frustrating because it was right there in our hands. Repeatedly. As horribly flawed as we were, it was given to us again and again. We didn't want it. We didn't deserve it, but we could have easily had it.
That will the legacy and story of the 2008 Denver Broncos. They were personally escorted by luxury limousine to the steps of a whorehouse and were given $ 3,000.00 in newly printed bills.
And they still couldn't get laid. That's our story. That's what we are. We are Bob.

I think this game is the biggest game since the last Super Bowl we were in.
There's a lot riding on this game.

Well, the current situation and the game on Sunday do have the potential to turn into a disaster that could haunt this franchise and the guys directly associated with it for a few years to come.

They would lose to DET had we played this season.
I predict the game will be over by half time.

We would not lose to Detroit. We'd start out like gangbusters. The talent and gameplanning would put us up 24-3. Cutler would have 2 TD passes before halftime. We'd hit a lull. Kitna would look like an all-pro for half the game. Ernie Sims would eat Selvin alive. There would be two stupid turnovers that don't even happen in Madden. Going into the fourth, Detroit would be breating down our necks down 27-24, but eventually, since they are so bad, we'd get that extra TD that would break their back and hold on for a 34-24 win.

You know that we lost to them last season.
Our defense was much better at that time.

Dude, lets get real. This team has suffered injury after injury on a team already in the rebuilding process. We have lost damn near every running back we've trotted out onto the field and our defense is lacking some talent and poorly coached. At least the players who are out there this year, for the most part, have given great effort unlike last year.
Look at the improvement in the 07 and 08 offenses because we committed an offseason to them and brought up Bates to be the coordinator. A similar commitment to the defense this offseason will likely have us very competitive going into 09.
I really think our guys are being underestimated and they are hardly predictable.
NOBODY will be giving Denver a shot this weekend and they'll hear it all week. Don't be surprised if the Broncos act like this is their playoff game, a week early.
I don't expect to win but I don't expect Cutler to lay down either. HE DOES NOT WANT TO LOSE TO RIVERS.
Game on.

It's actually simple. Pick up just two more guys and we instantly get better. We have the ability to pick up more than that though. We need to get a HB who can stay healthy and keep defenses off balance. My choice is Beanie Wells in round 1 from OSU. Pair him up with Torain and Hillis and instanctly our HB position is set for the next four or five years along with Cutler. I guarantee we are better by two games in the standings just based off that move right there.
We have 31 million under the cap. Our defense has some guys on it but no playmakers outside of Champ. I think its time to spend some of that cash to hasten the process we are on. Julius Peppers, Terrell Suggs, Albert Haynesworth, Namdi Asomugha, or Atogwha (S from STL) would all help this defense tremendously and shorten the improvement curve they are on along with a new DC.
Just two new names, a HB in the draft and a FA or two could boost this team tremendously moving forward. We are not that far away.

Here's the thing...
We're supposed to lose. So, if we do... no surprises.
Even if we win, we'll get bounced in they playoffs.
BUT, the satisfaction of knocking SD out of the playoffs in their crib would be ALMOST as valuable as a playoff win. Honestly, that would be a massive boost to this team's morale, and maybe... MAYBE enough to say this team has made strides this season.
I didn't expect to win the division at the beginning of the year. All things considered, if Denver can walk out of this season with a sweep of SD, a AFC West championship, and a pro bowl season for Cutler to boot, that's all wins across the board.
Then Shanahan has to get back to the drawing board with what he's doing on defense and draft a stud buffalo in the backfield.

It's not so much the retrospective expectation so much as it was the oppurtunity. There was a rare combination of things that came together potentially for our benefit:
1. Merriman got hurt.
2. SD had the absolute worst luck this year. Bad calls, horrible bounces, ****ing up otherwise well played games in the last minute. They suffered from Murphy's Law.
3. The rest of the division was ****.
As such, we had a great chance....a golden oppurtunity to get our young stars some real playoff experience, at home, no less with a division title. We had initially thought we would get Jay some valuable postseason experience his first year, but it all went to hell. Then last year happened. This year, we were in first from WIRE to WIRE....to have it all go to hell in Week 17, when we had our foot squarely on their throat for MONTHS, its hard to take. It's hard to say...well...oh well I didnt expect this anyway. That doesnt make it better. We're not going to get years that come around where everything is perfectly crafted for us. SD isn't going to step on their dick every week next year like they did this year. Bounces even out. The world will return to normal. The Chiefs WILL be back.
It is VERY disheartening to know that even though the stars perfectly aligned for us, we still could not get it done.
It is very hard for me to accept the proposition that even when SD sucked dick, and they sure sucked dick this season, we still could not wrestle the division away from them, even when we had our boots squarely on their throat the whole ****ing year. That's a very sobering fact. Very sobering. It's hurtful, its depressing. It reflects VERY POORLY on us as a team and an organization.
How is it that we had SD tied up in a chair and had a gun to their head and we ended up getting shot? Can somebody ****ing explain that to me? Because I'm ****ing pissed. I'm ****ing pissed at this ****.
I don't disagree with you. However if we win next week, I think a lot of us will feel validated that we actually earned this division over SD vs. having it given to us by a freak blown call in week 2.
All that being said, I still like where we are going. Division championship or no (I cringe saying that) we still have laid the groundwork for this team making a big jump next year if the FO does what they are supposed to this offseason.

You are correct.
It was a race between SD and DEN for the division.
SD lost many games in the last minute.
We didn't take advantage of it.
It is really depressing.

I admire all the optimism on this thread but I honestly can't visiualize a den win next week. This loss to freaking Bills without Marshawn Lynch basically ended the season. I don't mean to be debbie downer but I just can't see this defense stopping anyone let alone pumped up chargers. I also don't see how cutler will stop himself from imploding in a scenario where he is getting booed by chargers fans while defense keeps sucking. I understand that winning the div at the beginning of the year was unrealistic but giving it all up from the position we are in 3 weeks ago is really really depressing.

We're not winning next week. You know that. I know that. Taco is bravely trying to put on a happy face, but he also knows that deep down inside.
This was a failure of biblical proportions. Our fans were slapped in the face by this team. This team let us down. They really hurt us. Needlessly. I can't believe what they did. I can't believe it. Even injuries and youth cannot explain it. It cannot explain getting raped by Oakland at home. It cannot explain losing 4 home games, 3 of which were to PATHETIC teams. I am so disappointed. I am so angry. I am really ****ing angry.
This **** has to stop.

It would be absolutely par to the course of this season if Denver wins this Sunday. This has been a frustrating season and its also one that has consistently defied conventional logic the entire year. I'm not getting my hopes up but if Denver beats SD I'm definitely not going to be surprised.

We should stop to say. Well we save this job or this job. We should to take a look at ourselves.
Our ST sucks. Our Defense sucks. So who hieres the ST Coach and the DC Coach? Im not rooting for Shanahans head but there a some things that ar very frustrating. Every Week we see QB that look like Peyton Manning, no Turnovers, ST that is loosing the FP Battle. Stuff like that.
The Bills were in the Grave in the 1 QRT. We just did not put the nails on the coffin. Man bad chrismas days...

Let's take a stock of our AFC West games. We lost one to the Raiders, we lost one to the Chiefs...now we have the Chargers. A choke of this magnitude would be the capper to the biggest embarrassment since our pre-TD Super Bowl days. Give us everything you have, Broncos. Even if that means you have nothing left for the playoffs. I can't stand for not winning the AFC Worst...

I have a feeling that you would be better off just buying your kids some extra gifts with the AFC west championship gear money.........b/c their will be no AFC West championship gear sold in the colors of orange & blue.
Ironically I was going to post a joke thread about the person I feel the sorriest for in this up-and-down season is the guy who's been holding the box of "AFC West Champions" gear on the sidelines the past 2 weeks.
My gut feeling is the Chargers bust us a new one next week......as much as I hate to say it, I simply feel they're the better team right now (and, quite honestly, have been the better team all year that has simply had extreme bad luck as well as some of their own problems closing).
Also, and I'm not sure why so many around here want to deny it, but Rivers is playing to an MVP-like level right now (in past 2 games 96+ rating, 6TDs/1INT, 2-0....he literally willed the KC comeback win then torched TB for 4 TDs). I think he'll eat us alive.
