Forgone conclusion I think so looking ahead...I'm guessing we might get into the #15 spot if we're lucky. Assuming we staid put...who do we take?
SoCal?

15 will be the lowest. Likely 12-14.
All I really want to think about is why Slowik is still the DC and whether or not he will be againt next year.

I was just wondering the exact same thing and was looking at standings. If SD wins next week, there will be 16 teams locked into better records than Denver. Among the 4 other current 8 win teams, three of them (NO, Chi, and Wash) look to have a better projected SOS, and Buffalo and Denver are currently neck and neck. Houston is the other 7 win team and, if they win next week, they should have a stronger SOS as well.
So, it looks like we'll end up picking between 11 and 13 if we lose next week. That's a big jump from the 21-24 we were looking at. I'd still rather have the playoffs though.

We should be in line for a great player. We can always look forward to the draft.

Its a win win situation for Denver
If we pull a shocker we gain playoff experience if we lose high picks to bolster D.

Gives the Broncos a better shot at Taylor Mays or Chis Wells. If a defensive lineman like Peria Jerry or Radji or Greg Hardy fall then gives them a shot at them.MY new mock would be 1. Chis Wells 2. Peria Jerry 3. Conner Barwin. Trade a 5 rounder this year and 2010 5 rounder for Jarvis Green then our defensive line is set plus we get a Franchise Running back. DE Green, Ekuban, Dumervil,Moss ,Barwin DT Thomas ,Robinson ,Jerry,Powell,Peterson.

I disagree. I think you have to rebuild the defense and the Giants are going to either lose Derrick Ward or Brandon Jacobs so we take a run at one of them in offseason. Either would be better than what we currently have. The only other thing would be to pry Micheal Bush away from the Raiders somehow but that wont happen. I also like the idea of going after Gartrell Johnson with a undrafted signing.

I was at the new mexico bowl on saturday and Johnson put on a show. I like him and I think he will be a pretty good NFL back at some point. he will at least be better than Sapp was coming out of csu.

11-13 would be sweet. I didn't realize we could get that high. I just looked at the logjam at .500 teams and stuck us in the middle since that's the most luck we can ever expect it seems. Getting up that high would make it possible to do some damage maybe.

I guess. I hate to see this team start making a habit of fading down the stretch to miss the playoffs though. Don't get me wrong, I like the pick, but I want the youngsters to get a taste of playoff football. At least missing the playoffs provides a pretty big boost to our draft position. I'd hate to fall in that 18-21 range again.
Also, I really think moving that high up the board may help our 2nd rounder as much or more than our 1st. At the back end of round 2, we'd be hoping for a slider. At pick 45 or so, we'd have a shot at Mack or Unger for the o-line, a solid S prospect, or have a number of RBs to choose from.

Yep, the AFC West has been so bad this year that our SOS is really weak. That should get us ahead of most teams in a tie-breaker scenario. Also, SD and Arizona could both make the playoffs as 8-8 teams, which would put their picks below ours, if I'm understanding correctly.

With Bills and Texans (:) ) win we'll likely pick 12 if we lose. Haven't a clue what we would pick if we win.

if he is still around next year, Bowlen had better pay to have Shanahan's head examined

Bills wrapped up the 11th spot with their loss.
if we lose we will pick 12th
Thats where we picked last year but we had to go 7-9 to do it.

I would like Wells or a S in round 1 and I would seriously consider moving back into round 1 from round 2 to get a shot at Raji. The guy is good... very good.

I thought Raji was the best DT in college this year - wouldn't be shocking if he climbs and ends up being a top 20 pick.

I love Mack. I think he's going to be a multi-year pro bowler at center.
Unfortunately I think we need defensive playmakers more so we might have to miss out on him.
Raji would be a great guy to play with Roberson. They play a lot alike and cause massive disruptions in the offensive backfield.

I wouldn't mind trying an 08' Carolina (1st round '10, 2nd round 09', 4th round 09') like trade next year to pair up a couple of first round draft picks if we really like some guys.

Hopefully high enough to land McCoy (DT) out of Oklahoma.
Here is an excerpt on him from a coming mock draft, where I do have us losing this game tonight and picking in the top fifteen. McCoy is my #1 prospect for the Broncos on the defensive side of the ball.
Gerald McCoy, Defensive Tackle -- Oklahoma
There's no doubt that the Denver Broncos are absolutely desperate for
talent on the defensive front. Gerald McCoy is only 20 years old,
but will be 21 by the time he is drafted. He's only had two
years of starting experience at Oklahoma, but he has undoubtedly
been a stalwart on the Sooners defensive line.
He's started all 26 games of his career and racked up 45 tackles, 16.5 of
them for loss and 8.5 sacks. Factor in seven hurries, a FF and a FR
and it's easy to see that McCoy is a playmaker.
He is young and raw, and will need time to develop at the NFL -- but
when you're desperate for talent at a particular position, you draft it high.
Considering defensive tackle is a position where it's hard to translate
at a high level from college to the pros, getting a guy like McCoy at such
a young age might not be a bad idea.
He'll still be young a few years into the league and has the work
ethic and dedication, along with all the physical attributes to succeed
at the NFL level. If McCoy is on the board when the Broncos select in April,
it's a no brainer. There isn't a better defensive tackle in this class
and if the team wants to make a true difference in the running game and
rushing the passer -- investing in a quality prospect like McCoy is the
right thing to do.
Right now I'm feeling a McCoy, then the best ILB/RB combo you can fit. I'd even move up with our high second to get Spikes if he was in the late-first and then hopefully land James Davis -- who is very underrated in the third round. That'd get me horny.

McCoy would be great- if he comes out. He's as talented as any DT available and gives such a good, consistent effort. He'll be a force in the middle of the line when he makes it to the league. McCoy/Spikes/Davis would be about as good as we could hope for with our first 3 picks.
