This is what the NFL is all about.
Your young nucleus essentially gets an extra playoff game this year. You're not going to the Super Bowl. Beat the Chargers and you get two playoff games. That's awesome experience. And great entertainment.
Like I said earlier this week...it's like Ferris Bueller.
You guys want the heat...you'll take it.
When Cutler visits San Diego...he and Rivers will just have a little chat.
GO BRONCOS!

It would be great if it didnt seem like a forgone conclusion that the Chargers will now win the west.

I agree with the point behind this post although he is obviously being insincere.
This was never about this year.
Broncos are going to beat the Chargers next week in San Diego though.

I opened this expecting a picture of a kleenex or something, but actually this the most reasonable approach to take now. We just ain't that good, and instead of killing ourselves over blowing a huge division lead (which does suck) we should just root for a surprise next week in what is a virtual playoff game.
Yes, given the direction of the two teams, SD looks like the likely winner next week. But moping all week about how we're doomed will achieve nothing. I honestly expect a good game next week and can think of no sweeter scenario than knocking the chuggers out in the last week just when we had given them hope.
Drink yourself into oblivion tonight, endure the jokes for a week, but come next Sunday our young, deeply flawed team will get a great opportunity.

Broncos lose by 24 next week. SD acts classless, as usual, and rubs it in. Broncos sit there and take it because they have no heart. Shanny is a shell of his former self. Burnt out, washed up, useless.

Nice thread...
Next week will be a lot of fun and hopefully the game isn't decided by a referee.
This season is about which team sucks the least in this terrible division and next week will decide that.

In order for it to be epic, it would need to be competitive. That aint happening.

IThis was never about this year.
Keep telling yourself this if it makes you feel better. I agree except that when we had 3 games to win 1 to make the playoffs it became about this year. And if we don't get it done it's going to be devastating. Go ahead and say I'm overreacting but you know I'm right.

I hate it when I wind up agreeing with Bobo about anything.
But he's right. This is the best possible scenario for this very young, very uneven, very promising young team.
Go into Diego and steal one. How sweet would it be to see Rivers crying on the sidelines?
And if we fail in the attempt, so what? It's not like we were actually going to make any noise in the postseason this year.

OTOH, it would mark the 5th time in 6 years? that the Broncs have stalled/collapsed late in the season.

It doesn't erase the fact we've been 1st in the division since week one...were up by 3 games with 3 weeks left and are prolly gonna lose the division next week..thats pretty sad to say the least!! I did predict 9-7 though!!

Actually the refs already did decide the division. Without the Hochuli debacle the Chargers would have clinched the division today. They would be 8-7, you guys would be 7-8 with the tie breaker going to SD if the Broncos won next week.(I think)
The way it stands, the Chargers will have to win another game to get what they have already earned in reality. Broncos are playing on borrowed time from here on out. With a little luck they can keep it going. But he spector of actually earning a plyoff spot ended today. SD would be the division leader minus Ed Hochuli.
Anything from here on out is gravy. Take it for what it's worth and enjoy what's left of the season. In the end, you still have a chance and that's all anyone can ask for. Ya never know when a team is gonna go on a 3 or 4 game win streak. It could be you.

and without brandon marshall phantom PI calls in jax and miami games, we would have probably clinched already. whats your point? a single call in week 2 does NOT decide the fate of the division for one team. the other 7 games they lost however do.

Bobs take is right.
A lot of posters have been saying they wanted to see this team get a little playoff experience. Next week they get the chance.
The playoffs start early for us , and Every game is win or youré out.
Time for someone to step up and make a play when everything is on the line.
Lets hope that player is on the Broncos and not the Chargers.
I hope to god Shanahan tells Slowick to bring the kitchen sink.

That's about my line of thinking. We have some fatal flaws that won't get fixed in a week, but I'd be shocked if we didn't come out with at least a high intensity level. There's no love lost between these teams and, disappointing and frustrating as our team is at times, I don't see them folding the way some here are just assuming they will.
This isn't a juggernaut we're facing. They played a really good game against a slumping Tampa team today. We'll see what they've got for us next week. Honestly I expect an entertaining game. At the very least I'm not going to spend the week bemoaning an "inevitable" fate. Lets see how it plays out. The offseason is long enough--we don't need to start a week early.

This game reminds me of 1984. We went into the last week of the season tied for 1st place with Seattle, and we had to play at the Kingdome. We were not expected to win, but we did. Steve Foley returned a pick for a TD ...

The Bolts are red hot. Rivers is playing out of his mind. The running game has finally showed signs of improvement. Rivera has finally reversed the damage Cottrell did to this defense earlier in the year. The Bolts have all the momentum. Prime time and a national audience. And you know the Bolts are salivating to avenge the Hoculi loss.
It's hard to believe that this game won't be a blowout but it is a divisional game with everything on the line in prime time so Denver stepping up and making this a real contest wouldn't be completely unimaginable.
It's gonna be a fun week. I'm bummed that I'll be out of the country for the game but I'll definitely find a way to see it live.
But I do agree that this is going to be a playoff type atmosphere so in that sense, it will be good for the Broncos and their young players.

That's one way to look at it I guess. That's assuming no other games you didn't deserve to win were handeed to you by the refs. There are always questionable calls in every game that leave the door open for speculation. However, there is no speculation you would have lost that game. It was gift wrapped and handed to you as a win you didn't earn. And it has effected the playoff picture. So much so that Hochuli was punished and disqualified for post season considerations.
Hochuli has had a tough year. I have watched other games where he blew some calls. He has stunk it up this year. But none more than the Broncos game.
