More beatable than they were the last two times we faced them in the playoffs. The way Jacksonville ran over them for most of the last drive reminded me of the Denver defense. Cutler brings his A game (which he will) and we'll win a shootout. I'd rather see Indy come to town than Pittsburgh.

if we win out, have at least the same record as the jets, and the jets win their division.
jets, phins, and pats right now are 9-5, so they all have to lose at least 1 of the next 2. Not likely, even if we win out.

don't we have a shot at the #3 seed?
we do, but its pretty remote..........
We would need:
1. the Jets to lose vs seattle this week
2. The jets to win week 17 against miami
3. We would have to win both games.
3b. (I think NE would have to lose one to)
The jets are a game up on us.......we need them to win the division and have an even record with us for that to happen........problem is if they win this weekend, we cant catch them because if they lose the following week miami/ne would win the division and they have the tie breakers over us.

yeah but the jets and miami play eachother, so they have to lose this week against seattle and miami has to lose against KC i believe.

Colts are a team nobody wants to play in the playoffs. They are the hottest team in the NFL. 8 wins in a row and they have a bye week next week. Baltimore is the weakest link. Rookie QB playing on the road helps any team.

Jags looked a lot like us tonight. I really feel like they would have won had they not turned the ball over (pick 6).
If we play INDY, the odds will be stacked against us. It would be the best possible scenario for us to win a playoff game though. No team is going to rouse the anger of the fans and get our young team pumped up like Indy will. We can throw on them and they are basically one dimensional on offense as well.
I just hope we make the playoffs. We can worry about playing Indy or whomever later.

No, I think there is still a way for us to get the #3 seed. As it's already been said.....NYJ would have to win the AFC east, BUT also finish with the same record as us.
So....
1. We have to go 2-0, AND
2. NYJ have to lose to Seattle, and beat Miami, AND
3. Patriots have to lose at least 1 game.
I think that would give us the #3 seed......but yes, it seems that's a low probability, and we'll most likely end up with the #4 seed (and play Indy).

If we had Hillis I think we'd beat Indy, they struggle against power runners and I don't think they'd be able to stop him.
With him out, we'll need Jay at his best. We'll also need our defense to hold them to a few FG's instead of TD's.
I think it's a better matchup than the Ravens. Their D is scary, especially with us unable to run the ball I think they pick Jay a couple of times. And our D stops nobody, so Flacco would put up points.
Indy I think we can put up some points and hang with them. We make every QB we face look like Peyton Manning anyway, so may as well do it with Peyton himself and take our chances against a weaker D going the other way.

Thats what I thought, wanted to make sure. I hope its snowing. Peyton stinks it up in the Snow. Didnt get pass NE in the playoffs until they got the game at home in a cozy warm dome (and they still squeeked by).
Assuming we lock up a playoff spot and will have a healthy Champ Bailey on the field I actually like our matchup with the Colts.
Are we still underdogs? For sure. But we match up with them better than say, the Ravens.
Look at it unit v. unit.
Neither team has a legit running game right now, so it'll be a pass heavy game.
Our linebackers (with a healthy DJ Williams) matches up with theirs very well if you ask me, probably a draw if not even a slight edge for us.
If Champ is healthy our corners are significantly better, and Bob Sanders can't impact a pass heavy game as easily as Champ can. I think a healthy Champ gives us an honest edge in the secondary battle.
Conversely, their big edge and our big weakness is the DL. I think our DTs stand toe to toe with theirs very well, but our DEs aren't even close to theirs, and in a pass heavy game being able to create pressure is very important.
However, on the OL I think we win handily and that negates a lot of their DE advantage. Clady and Harris have both shown that speed rushers are their meal d'jour if they had their druthers, and so Freeney and Mathis are going to be the one's fighting an uphill battle.
The receivers battle is a tight one with a lot of close parallels. Scheffler and Clark are both dangerous weapons in similar downfield between the hashmarks roles. The Colts' slot WR Gonzalez reminds me very much of a young Stokley, but what he has in speed and athleticism over Stoke is made up by Stoke's superior technique. Very close draw there. Marshall and Wayne are two of the elite WRs in the NFL and both Royal and Harrison have the potential to have a huge game if not given the right amount of respect in coverage.
What it really comes down to is a couple key battles:
1. Cutler v. Manning. Can Jay take the checkdown options to keep drives alive and will Manning have one of his classic playoff game performances against us where he picks us apart up and down the field.
2. Dumervil. What Elvis do we get? With a healthy DJ and Champ as well as Barrett's emergence in the secondary does Slowik finally let the DEs, namely Dumervil, go in the three point stance and really attack upfield? If he does do we get production for it? If we can get a few sacks on Manning then we're looking very good in this game.
3. Does our OL live up to the hype and prevent Freeney and Mathis from getting to Cutler, like they should?
I think Indy is one of the few teams that we see a benefit from having a home game against, since so much of their talent plays best on a fast, clean surface (i.e. turf in a dome). Denver in December/January is no place for a speed rusher to excel and that gives us a big assist as it means #3 should be a conclusive positive answer for us and their fast receivers will have a step taken away while Marshall can remain his same dominant self physically.
If we had Hillis I'd really like where we were at heading into the playoffs, but we don't and I don't see a worthwhile RB option on the roster right now. We might catch a hot hand but that is very unlikely. We'll be an underdog, but not as big a one as many are already projecting us to be.

Bring 'em on. The only team I'm not sure we could be competitive with in the AFC is Pittsburgh. The Colts are better than us, but not out of our league. They getting a lot of ugly wins, like only scoring 3 points against the sad Browns D and winning, and struggling to beat Detroit.

Yup. I could not believe that he didn't at least throw the ball away--even an intentional grounding would show that he at least was THINKING about their down/clock situation in those instances. Garrard, like Jason Campbell in WAS are B-level Qb's at best. With JAX's horrible record, if Bradford (if he declares)or Stafford fall to them in the draft--they would be morons not to jump on a 1st rd QB.
For us to have a chance against Indy, we'd need Champ on Reggie, Barrett on Clark and hopefully we can stop their feeble running game without having to put 8 in the box. I like Dre on Harrison (if Marvin plays) although I fear the dump offs to Rhodes..but 1st things first--we need to beat BUF. But if we make the playoffs and are at least competitive, I will be happy.

Ideally...
Pitt win out and get the #1 seed, Tennessee #2
We go against Indy and the Jets face NE/Miami in the wilcard games.
We win, and the Jets lose.
We then go to Tenn, where I think we'd have a real shot especially if Haynesworth isn't 100%.
The city of Pittsburgh is struck by a dreadul illness in the days leading up to their game at home to NE/Miami, and they lose giving us a home game in the AFC Champ game.
We win.
Then the NFC folds in the last week of January.

Smartest take I have seen posted here in a week. We basically need to outscore somebody to win. This defense won't stop any play off team. Jay needs to be at this best as does everybody on offense. No turnovers, no dropped passes, no mistakes. Asking Jay to outperform Manning is a tough task though. I for sure would not put any money on Denver. I will root for them but forget making any bets on this game.
The Colts defense has always been a defense that isn't statistically very good but they make the big plays when they need too. It's like they are below average but they're clutch. They're like the Robert Horry of football.

Yes. Offensively I would say we are on par with Indi. Not like they have the best defense on earth either.
:Broncos:
I have heard this before and what happens we score 10-20 points while they score 40+.

This is like Ferris Bueller.
You guys want the heat...you'll take it.
When Peyton comes to Denver...he and Cutler will just have a little chat.

This team may not even make the playoffs. I wouldn't go buying that playoff tailgate food just yet. Let's beat the Bills and end this silly regular season once and for all.

Way to be positive, debbie downer.
:Broncos:
It could be even worst then that if we lose these last 2 games.
It's a pretty safe bet this season does end in a big bummer of a loss.

Look at last night's game. Even in an average season, having a DE like Sweeny pays off at the right times.
You never, ever.. EVER see our D-line making big plays at big times.
Ever.
Ever.
Ever.

Like every single week, regardless of venue, regardless of opponent, it all hinges on whether Jay is hot or not. He's hot and we beat playoff teams like the Jets and Atlanta on the road ... he's not and we lose (and nearly lose) at home to cellar dwellers Raiders and Chefs. The Cleveland game was the best proof of this ... a first-time QB has us down for the count after three quarters, when suddenly Jay gets hot and we win.
We can beat the Colts - or Ravens - or Patriots - or Steelers. It's all up to Jay.

It would take a LOT more than Jay to beat those teams in a playoff football game. There is a world of difference between those wins over Atlanta and the Jets (which have many thinking we're better than we are) and playoff football.

I get your general drift ... but if Jay gets hot and we score 30-40 points, we can beat any teamin the league I think. It's a home game, too, though that hasn't helped much lately.

Unless we make some crazy adjustments, Manning will rip this D apart.

I can understand why some would rather play the Colts but I'd actually rather play the Ravens. Baltimore has a rookie QB and the team as a whole doesn't have the playoff experience the Colts do. Not an easy choice but I'll take my chances against Joe Flacco over Peyton Manning.
I agree, I would take Flacco over Manning...I just would rather have the Colts running game(vs the Ravens) and the Colts D(vs the Ravens). Jay should have a big day against the Colts....now, if we can just get ONE stop against Manning......:strong:

AGAIN with the Colts...they're becoming the 2000s version of Bronco plague, much like the Broncos were Cleveland's plague in the 80s.
their lucky horseshoe won't hold up much longer. thanks to the bungling Jaguars.

Seems that Cutler might be impervious to bad weather, overlooking the small sample size, but if it's cold and nasty, I love our chances.
