Trent Edwards is improving but will likely sit again this week. That means it's either JP or the other guy. I'll take JP, thanks.

***EDIT
Scroll down and new information suggests that Trent is going to play.

The other guy (Hamdan) is who i'm pulling for. Sure, Losman's confidence is shot and he can't wait to get out of Buffalo, but Hamdan reminds me of a Moses Moreno, Matt Mauck, and/or Jarious Jackson.

It's their return game that frightens me:

The Broncos, especially early this season, have seen things go sour when they have bobbled in the return game.

And in the Bills, they get one of the best kick- and punt-return teams in the league.

Buffalo has dominant, explosive players with the ball on punts and kickoffs. Roscoe Parrish, who returned a punt for a touchdown against the Broncos in the 2007 opener, is averaging an eyebrow-raising 15.3 yards per punt return.

When Parrish clears the first defender, and there aren't many better at it right now, he doesn't waste motion and gets into the gap with look-at-my-back speed.

On kickoffs, the Bills have rookie Leodis McKelvin, who had eight kickoff and punt returns combined for scores in his collegiate career at Troy, including three in his senior season. McKelvin is averaging a league-leading 29.3 yards per return and had a 98-yarder for a score this season.

McKelvin, having run 4.38 seconds in the 40-yard dash at the combine, also was one of the fastest players available in the draft. He, too, will turn one missed tackle into a score.

And Lee Evans:

With Champ Bailey out of the lineup, the Broncos have had some difficulty trying to direct opposing passing attacks where they would like them go.

Carolina's Steve Smith quickly turned Sunday's game into a rout when he easily worked the spaces left behind in a Broncos defensive scheme loaded along the line of scrimmage.

The Bills' Lee Evans is not as powerful as Smith in traffic, but at 16.7 yards a catch, it's clear Evans knows how to make room for himself down the field. A rare player who has maintained his elite speed despite two anterior cruciate ligament surgeries in his knees, Evans still can run by most cornerbacks in the league.

Buffalo also runs the ball well enough - Marshawn Lynch has more than 1,000 yards for the season - for the Broncos to have to commit to the line of scrimmage again.

Yes, their special teams have the potential to beat us all by themselves. I believe we can shut down the run if we make it THE priority early. Lynch has a bad back and prolly won't want to take many hits. Jackson's a solid RB but not an elite guy.

Evans tends to disappear for large stretches at a time, but if he's still motivated, must be drooling at the prospect of our DB's.

Cassell didn't look too good until Champ went down. Even after that, he still only threw for 185 yards in that game. Turnovers and the running game did the Broncos in far more than anything Cassell did.

It looks like Trent Edwards is set to return to the starting lineup after missing two and a half games with a groin injury. But backing him up will be third string quarterback Gibran Hamdan.

“I’ve been told I’m number two this week,” said Hamdan. “So I’ll be backing Trent up.”

“It makes me feel good. It’s been my goal to work hard ever since I’ve stepped in the building and earn the respect and trust of my teammates. So this I like to think is them recognizing me for the hard work I’ve put in and the ability that I’ve shown to get the job done if called upon. So that’s worth it.”

With the playoffs off the table the Bills’ staff has the license to make a move like this without it reflecting poorly on J.P. Losman.

What’s most interesting is that usually the backup quarterback gets the fewest reps during the week because the starter gets all the first team reps and the third stringer runs the scout team. But despite being named the backup this week, Hamdan told me he still ran the scout team Wednesday because he likes doing it.

He'll be out by the end of quarter 1. Either because he's thrown 5 TD's and the Jills lead 35-0 or 2. because the groin has tightened up in the cold and we have been chasing him around.

Gimme Hamdan!

Someone just needs to bitch slap him in the ear hole, and take the fifteen yard penalty. Concussion reactivated, game over.

That sounded mean.

I still think the key is our running game. Our spread offense is starting to look a little predictable. A few good runs by Pope would open things up for Cutler.

I love how Losman is getting the blame for that loss. Absolutely idiotic play-calling to have that guy running around in the pocket on his own 20 when they should be trying to run out the clock.

I don't know. Edwards is really overrated, if that's even possible for an average QB at best.

He's had only three multiple TD games in his career and one of those was a game where he threw three INTs.

That being said, I wouldn't worry who the QB is, especially since there doesn't seem to be much difference between Edwards and Losman. The Bills are going to pound the ball. That's their strength. Though I have to admit, aside from a couple of big runs, Denver's run D has looked better in recent weeks. Or am I imagining this?

In the past 5-6 games they seem to play the run well, but give up 1-2 big runs. They have been able to get away with it, but it hurt with Carolina.

PS the reason they are playing the run well is because they are going 4-4, which makes them susceptible to the passing game (and really makes our Safeties look worse than they are, which is saying a lot).

Yea, it's hard to figure out what the thought process was, there. I mean, at that point... their playoff hopes were still breathing, I believe. Run it up the gut, run the clock down and if need-be, force your defense to make a play. But, don't run some erratic back-up QB around in the pocket in a situation like that.

I actually think Losman would be a decent Shanahan-project as a back-up.

I have the same feeling. Buffalo's coaching has seriously damaged any talent he may have. But I thought under proper coaching and a couple of yrs of learning he would make a decent backup for JC since they share some similar attributes (arm, mobility). Lossman needs to be used more like JP in Denver, and taught to get rid of the ball.

I don't think he would make a good starting QB because he has a definite ceilling that would never get you far in the playoffs (unless you had the Ravens D of early 2000), but used like JP, he would get you past a few in-season games.
