I like the thinking, and the mix of players, however, I just don't see us taking a first round back. I think Wells would really fit the goals of the team, but that's a steep price to pay. But, I guess if we are talking a pick in the twenties, it's not such a stretch. We went for Royal pretty high, so a top notch RB isn't out of the question.
I'd rather see defense, defense, defense. But, if we could pick up a good quality FS in free agency, it wouldn't be so bad. Also, I think you are underestimating our problems at DE. Our safeties and corners will consistently look bad with no real threat at DE.
Elvis hasn't quite "lit it up." Even with some pretty decent DT play. Jarvis is improving, but that should hopefully serve to get Engleberger off the field. We seriously need an athletic, 270+ lb DE. Our pass defense will continue to suffer if we don't find a good one.

If the draft board falls like this in the first 4 rounds, that would be great for broncos but I doubt it will.
Chris wells will probably be picked by some RB needy team in the top 10 and BJ Raji will not last till the second. Delmas will also probably make a move now that Mayock picked him in his top 25 seniros.

First of all where will Denver draft if they finish 8-8, 9-7, or 10-6? Based on where the Broncos finish and the draft order they receive; Denver needs to move up as far as possible and take the Best FS available! then in the 2nd round take the best true Middle Linebacker, and in the 3rd round select the best DT or DE Available. Any other immediate needs or holes needed filing should be addressed during FA. Rounds 4-7 Denver needs to find some sleepers and over achievers like they did with Hillis and Marshall.
I say FS should be at the top of the Broncos need in the draft mainly due to this article. I had no idea the Safeties had such a huge impact with how the Cornerbacks play.

A Ball hawking Free Safety and Strong Safety (Barrett), if they are good enough to cover deep so the corners can play tight man-to-man; will Slowick to stop making the Corners playing 10-15 yards off oppossing teams WR.
By covering man-to-man, the CB's will dissrupt the timing btwn WR & QB, thus making the QB hold the ball longer. The QB holding the ball longer greatly improves the likelihood of the Bronco pass rush getting to the QB.
Next, stopping oppossing teams running game. Denver needs a sure tackling run stopping TRUE Middle Linbebacker and another run stopping DT who can add depth to this position.

Safety is a deep position this year. So DEN doesnt have to move up to draft one. As a matter of fact, DEN could just wait until OJ Atogwe asks for a sweet deal from STL, and yes he will want the money, and DEN could just offer him a nice 5 year deal. FS problem solved.
Then DEN could go after a Nic Harris, Kevin Ellison, Eric Bruton, Louis Delmas or Courtney Greene later in the draft for Depth along with Barrett at SS.
This way, DEN can get a sure fire superstar like Chris Wells or Brandon Spikes in the draft right away. An "impact" player.
Rams FS O.J. Atogwe, has 10 interceptions in his last 14 games. He's also forced two fumbles this year and recovered one, returning it for a TD. Otogwe is in a contract year.

I think Chis Wells would be a good pick . I love the Raji pick but most likely will be picked in 1 round. I don't think Mack has a no chance to be picked in the 3 round. I love the sighning of Atogwe. If the Broncos go for Wells in the first Round and able to sign Atogwe then I like in the second round the Broncos go for a corner. I think a good corner like Darius Butler could fall because corner class is deep. Both are starters at corner are over 30.In The 3 round go Ron Brace. Not as good as Raji but a solid run stopper.I would rather go for a vetean Middle linebacker like Crowder Lewis or Vilma then Clayton or Henderson. I love Jarrett Dillard and would use a 4 rounder on him.A Srong safety like Chip Vaughn would be good in the 5 round to compete with Barrnett .The Broncos add Atogwe and Crowder in free agency for 5 million each then Draft Wells, Butler, Brace,Dillard and Vaughn then that would be a good upgrade for Broncos on offence and defence.

Here you've blue-printed the ideal situation. Throw money at Atogwe and one other defensive stud in FA, hit spikes in the first, another defensive end in the second, whatever high value safety still on the board in the third, and then grab an interior lineman, another corner, and a late round running back.

I would love 90% of that off-season. Raji, Mack, Delmas, and Gilbert would be great in rounds 2-5. Gilbert could be the steal of the draft at that point. Put him at LDE and slide him to DT in pass-rush situations. Something tells me he'll move up the board come draft-day though. I'm not sure Raji, Mack, or Delmas will last that long, but I'd be ecstatic if they did.
My only disagreements are with Wells and Devrey Henderson. I see Wells as another injury waiting to happen at HB, despite his talent, and Henderson just drops too many balls. If he could hang onto the ball, he'd be a nice deep threat though.

all three of those guys in your first three will go in the first or high second. I see Christ Wells as a clone of James stewart from last year. Devestating stiff arm. 4.4 speed.is a down hill runner. hell hit the hole and go. exactly what we need. i think you need to spell his carries though. Give Hillis or Torain some of his carries. Everyone is nuts over the smash and dash while it is effective having to guys in there that just wear out a D all game would be awesome. i also wouldnt mind seeing hillis getting reps at full back next year. getting him on the field jsut adds another dimension.
Raji is a man amongst boys. hell be a keeper.
