yet we have a winning record......................
we all know we aren't winning a playoff game.
did any of us think the D would be this bad?
I didn't, I thought it would be marginally better.
Ray Lewis is a free agent next year............
3 priorities
1) Run Stopping Middle Linebacker..........not niko nobody or mario haggans or nate the fake webster
2) An interior pass rushing DT
3) Two New Safties
We have 10 picks, lets hope 9 of them are on D and one of them is at RB.

We need to attack FA heavily at the Safety position. There figures to be some good players available and Denver needs to do everything possible to get a couple of them. One good starter at FS, Atogwe would be top of my list. Then a solid SS to compete for the job with Barrett in training camp.
Come the draft, at least one of Spikes, Lauranitis and Mauluga should be on the board in Round 1. Draft one. Webster is ****ing useless, and DJ moving back would be a poor move.
After that, attack the D-Line hard. A good LDE is a must (I've pretty much given up on Crowder) at some point, but there's a lot to be said for a big NT type to put alongside Thomas/Robertson and improve our running game.
Whatever DE or DT is best value in Round 2, we go with that as both would really help.
Day 2 we spend some more picks on the D-Line as well as adding some nice depth at Safety, RB, WR and on the O-Line.
With the emergence of Hillis, I really struggle to see any logic in getting an offensive player early in the draft. Unless someone falls to us that the FO are convinced is going to be a star, then thise needs to be a balls out defensive off-season.

i had high hopes for boss bailey, though i don't know why. i also figured mccree would actually be more than he's been at safety and that some semblance of a pass rush would materialize.
i don't see any way to land ray lewis. and even if we did, he's a one or two year stopgap, not a long term solution. i would like to see us take a run at a difference maker at MLB in the draft. maualuga's a pipe dream, but then so was jay cutler.

We need to fire Shanny and bring in Carl Peterson and Jerry Glanvile. Then draft heavy on the Oside of the ball and run and gun baby.

The unabomber's right though. I mean, I thought it was a mistake to get rid of Bates (yeah, weird, I know) but I had no idea Slowik was really that bad. I mean man alive. If they were just 11 guys running around doing what they wanted they'd be better.

I know Dre Bly loves him. I don't know how any team could be this bad and love their coach unless he was making things easy for them.

You can lay those stats at Slowik's feet.
The sad thing is, we'll be stuck with him next year, too.
It's like you had mistakenly married an ax murder, but managed to divorce her before she killed you. Then you remarried, and again mistakenly married an ax murder, but managed to divorce her before she killed you. Then you remarried, and once again married an ax murderer by mistake, only this time you're going to let her kill you, because you don't want to have been divorced three times.

Seriously. How we even have 2 more wins then losses...Can you imagine if we stop with the turnovers and get a defense that gets turnovers? Offense galore.

Yeah... it's easy to blame Slow for this mess of ****, but the fact is we have nothing at DE, nothing at S, Champ has missed more than half of the season, Nate missed 4 games, DJ missed 5 games and Boss hasn't been healthy since H.S..

Not only that but we have given up way more points then we have scored. To even be over 500 with that stat is crazy and incredible.
And yes I thought the defense would be this bad. You can't roll out 6-7 scrubs on defense and expect to play well.

i think he wasnt ripping Shanny directly this time. He stays (i had him on ignore forever). He is just stating the obvious. He compliments Shanny on the ability to win with a bad defense.

I am simply amazed the Broncos have an 8-6 record looking at their stats. And I'm not exactly thrilled about the future of this team either since we lost 3 games by 20 or more points and another by 9 points. All of our wins were freakin close as hell as well aside from the Raiders game to open the season.
I'm hoping for a miracle turnaround on defense next year and we get healthy all around. And also Cutler to stop making stupid interceptions.
Popps
12-17-2008, 01:39 AM
I predicted 9-7 before the season, optimistically. It seems like that looks somewhat likely.
I wish we could have avoided some of these injuries just to see if we could have taken momentum into the post-season. My mantra all year has been that we need to get better, not fade... as the season goes on. But, it's a little tough when guys are dropping like flies.
I still think we can salvage something positive out of this season. Lord knows the franchise needs it. Even a first round playoff loss could be a positive if we put up a good showing over the next few weeks. Just anything to build on for next year.
But, if we go south this week and bust in SD.... take cover, because **** is going to hit the fan.

Excatly!! Why would you fire the D coordinator one year you fired the other D coordinator. Obviously there are injury concerns and an overall lack of talent that has nothing to do with the coaches. Keep all ten draft picks and select defense heavily in the draft. 2 DTs, 2 DEs, 1 LBer 2 safeties one RB, one C/G, one WR

My hope is that Slowick actually leaves on his own. Or takes a Reduced Role. Yes this is his first year of total Control but last year he at least had partial control. He needs to step back to Defensive Backs.
We need someone from the Eagles- That is the scheme we can be successful at the quickest.

Not coincidentally, the Eagles can get away with their crazed blitzing schemes because they have two top tier safeties. The Broncos don't exactly have that same luxury in case you didn't notice.
