When I watch Houston, a team that plays in a tough division, got removed by a hurricane I think that their record is a little bit deceiving. They have some good talent on O (Andre Johnson, Schaub, Slaton and some weeks Kevin Walter) and their D speaks for itself. That said I think that now 15 weeks into his first season as an O coordinator/QB coach he has really come into his own. Would anyone be opposed to Mike Shannahan giving up the reigns to be more of a Team President/ GM role in like 2/3 years and hand over the coaching duties to Kyle? I know he is young but I think he understands the game extremely well, and is a youthful mind, been tutored under some great coaches (Mack Brown, Mike Shanahan, John Gruden, and the jury is still out on Kubiak). Thoughts?

i wouldn't be opposed to an assistant head coach position for Kyle, but I would like to see him develop a little more as a coach before becoming a Head Coach.
My dream coaching situation is in around 10 years or so, when Mike decides to call it a career, have Kubiak come back and take over.

Kubiak doesn't currently doesn't have offensive schemes for Cutler's greatest strengths.

Kubiak doesn't currently doesn't have offensive schemes for Cutler's greatest strengths.

he doesn't have a QB with Cutler's abilities, he caters his knowledge to the players he has. this is a guy who helped make Griese and Plummer look good in Denver. he has the knowledge to cater the schemes to Cutler.

but what i meant by him come back and take over for Mike is, i would like for him to come back in 10-13 years when Jay has retired and we are rebuilding the team. Because unless Bowlen fires Mike(won't happen) or he ends up with terrible records for the next few years(won't happen) He is going to coach this team for the rest of Jay's career.

to specify why i think this team will only get better is because, we have a team with no defense, no running game, rookies and young guys, and we have them competing and fighting for the AFC WEST Championship. Granted the West isn't exactly a powerhouse, but when you think of the injuries, lack of running game and the fact that half the team are 3rd year or younger, it is unbelievable we aren't at the bottom of the NFL. Our young guys and rookies are only going to get better and form the foundation for this franchise to build on and get better and compete for the super bowl and join the elite teams of the league

I think that Mike can still have a BIG role in what goes on (see Parcells in Miami) and I just think it would be a good idea to bring Kyle in down the road. He is developing very quickly and I think that it could be a good move.

I think there is a better chance of Bates taking over this team in a few years.

What I want is for Jeremy bates to quit calling passes behind the line of scrimmage on third downs... and for them to realize that on third and long, you're not going to convert on a pitch to a half back when it hasn't worked the first 8000000000000 times. If Kyle Shanahan can fix that, then put him in now. If he cant, then pass me the whiskey... its going to be a bumpy flight.

This is some legitimate criticism. When was the last time we ran a slant? Cutler has the speed to get it there and we have two Receivers who are hard to jam.

Bates' playing calling is not good IMO. HE calls a better game when playing with the lead. Thats the only good thing I can say. I wish the running game plan would be a little more straight forward.

Remember the season opener against Buffalo last year? We slanted the hell out of them with B-Marsh and Javon. In fact, that may have been the only route we called the entire game-winning drive.

We'll need to do that again. I'm tired of the bubble screens.

Can he speed rush or bull rush?

To Scheffler no less, whose not much of a tackle breaker. Hell we'd be better of running those to Graham let alone B-Marsh.

Didnt someone say in another thread nepotism is the surest way to avoid a championship?

Also a tightend who can do the same thing. I dont understand why we dont do the slant routes anymore, Eddie Royal reminds me of Rod Smith and that is how Rod made a potential HOF career...

We'll need to do that again. I'm tired of the bubble screens.

Marshall is one of 3 WR's in this league that can do anything with a bubble screen. Duh Bears used to run this all the time with Shoop. They had a guy who was good at making 1st guy miss and picking up 4-7 yards.

I think vs Carolina they schemed the bubble screen to bring coverage up to set up deeper routes later in the game. they tried going to Sheffler 1st then a couple times to the WR's. They must have been hoping the Carolina D would overpursue and get a couple big gainers. Too bad we were down 17 by half and had no run game at all. It might have worked.

I would still like to see a traditional RB screen at least once a possession. Buffalo is going to send their front 7 or more. Cutlers Sack totals will shoot up the last 2 games if they don't find a way to take pressure off him.

Are we talking about the Denver Broncos or the Monarchy?

Prince Kyle will assume the throne one day?

Maybe its more of a dictatorship. Something like the theocracy in Utah, or Colonel Khadaffi and his sons current regime?

I don't think Kim Jong Il is up for the job.

Are the jesters in the court?

Ooooh. Bloody hell...

Geez people. You're talking about who you want to coach this team in 10 years or so. That's an eternity in the NFL. Is Bowlen even around in 10 years? Is Mike? You never know. These aren't spring chickens we're talking about. Personally I think Kubiak won't be coaching the Texans in 10 years. Coaches lasting that long in the NFL is very rare. Most likely he will be an OC somewhere or a HC in college. With coaching, you have to be looking 2 or 3 years down the road and asking questions, not 10.
