Anybody on our team worth trading for picks next year? When our team is healthy and with the FA and draft coming up our team will need to get rid of some players. Most likely some of them have started for us this season. Just seeing if anybody thinks we can squeeze out a late round pick.

Trading up or trading for veteran players . And if we are cutting them we might as well get something.

Most of which are 4th-7th rd picks,all will be unknowns. What we need are better picks ie.. 2 2nds/2 3rds maybe even 2 1sts.

With the way Goodman has been picking, Id almost rather try my luck with guys he brings in rather than guys we have...depending on who and what position.

I agree....even though I don't think that Goodman is the reason for the better drafting. I'd like at least 3 more selections, preferably in the early to mid area.

I don't know....I just don't think that it's Goodman, primarily because he was the head of college scouting even when Sundquist was around. He's been the head scout for this team for a very, very long time, not just recently. I think lex has suggested before that perhaps Shanahan is listening to him more than he did before, as Sundquist may have crowded out other opinions. It's an interesting perspective, although ultimately unpersuasive (to me at least), because Wabbit has reported that Shanahan has always strongly relied on his scouts in the draft.

Also, when Goodman goes around saying that we "discovered" Marshall at the Hula Bowl, it kind of makes me cringe. We're not supposed to be discovering players for the first time at the postseason draft bowls.

What the real reason is, or probably more accurately, the real set of reasons, I don't know. I just don't buy that its Goodman, though. I don't really care what it is, whether they changed the water at the facility (maybe they are drinking Fiji water now...insert Gary Roberts joke here...I bet only Josh will get this joke) or what, but whatever it is, its working and I trust their judgment in the draft. Alot. They have really given us reason lately to trust their judgment. I don't trust their judgment on alot of things, but this is one area that I do trust them in, regardless of the reasons for the improvement.

The last three drafts have been great and I think its because Shanny is listening to Goodman more, and spending less on crappy big money FAs busts. Some of it might be the absence of Sundquist, who knows? Whatever the reason, I like stockpiling draft picks, esp. now. I'd love the Broncos to trade up and get one impact player for the defense, like the best safety in the draft. Then, they focus on a RB and dline. I wouldn't mind them spending the entire second day on defense...

It is true that we have been drafting more often from the Southeast from other regions. I'm not sure though, that it necessarily follows that, this means that Shanahan has been listening to Goodman more because this is his region and therefore we have been doing better because he has been listening to him. I think most of us would agree that there is better talent in the Southeast in general, because of the SEC plus talent rich schools that also happen to be in the southeast (even though they are not technically SEC schools), i.e. Miami, Florida State, Virginia (despite not having a strong club perennially, they seem to have been churning out several good pro players lately) etc. Regardless of whether the SE was Goodman's region or not, it has the best talent, so I suspect if we assigned Bob to that region and we started focusing on it intently, we'd be getting alot more hits, too (well, that's a stretch..with Bob and all...but you know what I mean).

I already acknowledged what you said about it being obvious the the SE has a lot of talent. But it has been like that for longer than 3 years and suddenly Shanahan started signing off on guys coming from Goodman's region...? It seems like it could be more than a coincidence to me.

Really you have to do both. No doubt though Broncos have plenty of picks to move up a few spots. Also they should have cap money to sign at least 1-2 other players in FA.

We will have to sign some vet FAs. Even if we drafted all stars at S, DL, LB, RB they would all be rooks. Sometimes I scratch my head at all the draft talk around here like it will solve the worlds problems. I agree it is best to build through the draft but that will take time. We will need some vets to supplement.

Yes we do, but the philosiphy of this team has changed in the last 3 years. We used to try to build through free agency and supplement with the draft. Now we build through the draft and try to supplement with free agency. I like the way things are shaping up. We have a solid young core of players, and our cap situation is better than it was in past years.
