I've come up with a brilliant game plan for beating Carolina. I know this will work because, well Im a genius.

Defense:
Defend the run. Yes I know easier said than done but just defend the run. Do not focus on the pass because the run is what wins them games, not the pass. Single out Bly and Bell (or Champ if playing) on Smith and muhammad. We will give up some plays in teh passing game but stack 8 in the box every play regardless of situation, making sure our OLBs understand to keep outside contain at all costs. Delhomme has never proven to be a great QB when he has no run game at all to speak of and if we take that away, Denver wins this game.

Offense:
Peppers frightens most teams and you have to account for him but looking at waht Tampa's anemic offense did to Carolina in their own house and Im absolutely sure that our O-line can not only neutralize Peppers but make him a complete non factor. We may not be able to run well because of our definate disadvantage in RBs at the moment but we can supplement our run game on screens as Ive noticed Carolina does have a tendency to bite on them as they sell out the pass rush. Cutler does not need to go deep often but a few times in this game will be beneficial. Bryant was able to kill their secondary time and time again, so Marshall and/or Royal should be able to get free without too much trouble. If Cutler does not turn the ball over and/or the RBs/WRs do not fumble, we will win this game.

There is a reason no one is talking about Carolina. They have won games but they just are not that impressive.

I think the team of Clady and Cutler will take the Panthers apart. You're right, Alex. They should stack the line and shut down the run. Make Jake beat them through the air. 4-4-3 all day.

Agree. And since their TEs are basically not existent, and apprently the only two players that account for basically all of Delhommes passes are Muhammed and Smith, let the CBs play bump and be physical. Take a penalty here and there, but play them hard.
Use Barrett only this time, he should be given the assignment of Williams/Stewart. Play him in the box, as a roving LB.
If DEN dies, let them die by the pass.
I think its a shoot-out, still though.

Yeah, they shredded the TB D...we'll see how our D stacks up, but we have been doing pretty good lately...this is still a game where Jay just wings it around to a win!!

Carolina is a ball control offense. You beat that by getting a lead and making them play catchup. That means you have to get maximum advantage out of each opportunity. We need to score TD's in the red zone and we need to get at least 2-3 turnovers so we give them fewer possessions. Get up by 14 and keep attacking. Force them to beat us with Jake instead of that ground game.

The special teams have to step up. We cannot give up any 45 yard KO returns and we must win the field position battle.

But Trey Wingo says Carolina is the best!

Unless we get ahead and stay ahead, I don't see us making a comeback win

I think vs Peppers the smart thing to do is give the tackles some help using Graham and Scheff to chip at him. Peppers one of those players where if you let him get going he feeds of the energy. Make sure to shut him out early and by 3rd quarter Clady and Harris will be dominating him. Also don't run at him on any big downs early. Don't give him a chance to make an early statement at all.

They are talking about them. It may just depend on where you live or what you're listening to. I was listening to a NY station yesterday and Carolina was a major topic because the Giants play Carolina next week. The winner will have the inside track on the #1 seed in the NFC.

While on the subject, here's the lead NFL story in Yahoo Sports right now.

"The San Diego Chargers are still the best team in football. I believe they will turn it all around starting this weekend in Carolina."

The Panthers blowing out the Bucs and being the darlings of the week will work to our advantage. Think about it.

The conservative nature of our offensive coaching staff will fold once the Panthers complete a long bomb for a touchdown. DeAngelo Williams (or whomever is running the ball) will get his yards. Defensively, it will be very hard to stop Carolina. We just need to make sure that Peppers doesn't get to Cutler. The offensive line has been successful up to now protecting Cutler, but Peppers will be hard to contain...

Hopefully the Broncos won't need Rod Smith to run Peppers down again.

If we are going that route, maybe our new fill-in running back will rush for 193 yards.

I think we're focusing too much on the job they did to Tampa Bay. The Bucs crushed them the first time they met, and the Panthers were losing to the Lions at one point.

They're not some super-team.

Yeah, but you already know that we won't be able to do any of that.

We are not going to get turnovers. We never do. The best we can hope for is to avoid coughing it up ourselves.

I doubt that we'll ever be up on them by 14.

It would be nice to win the field position battle, but our STs looked pretty erratic again last week.

They are going to run the ball, and, as usual, we will be erratic on defense. Some plays, we'll stuff them. Maybe even most. But they will break it loose for some huge gains. Virtually everyone does against this defense.

We need to score like mad, because they certainly will. Best we can hope for is an offensive shootout, where we stay close enough to nip them at the end.

Chances are we will get whipped pretty soundly. After all, we've won a couple weeks in the row and started to get hopes up, so it's time for the coaster to take a dive again.

We only take dives against bad teams. Next week against Buffalo will be our tank game.

Screen passes will be a major play this week...

I would like to see a middle screen, after they fake the screen to one side, then the next, and come back to the middle screen.

With our spread formation, they would have a huge hole up the middle of the field. Not that I am a coach, but after watching the Carolina Defense, i really think this would be a great play

They didnt really blow out the bucs. That game was in doubt until the 4th quarter and really Tampa did a good job the whole game until the fourth quarter.

Which means that they got wore down and didnt score enough to keep Carolinas RB combo off the field down the stretch.

Well, proper planning prevents pi$$ poor performance.

I would think that Shanahan has an O plan. But the D plan may be a bit more.......casual?
