One of my favorite coffee places is opening at 3:30 am for early shoppers! Yikes!
The guy also told me that one of their managers was coming in at 2:30 to brew gallons of coffee for one store.

My wife has a battle plan set up for me every year.
She's the General and I'm the Christmas shopping grunt with boots on the ground.
You should see it. It starts with a big ticket item that I always have to wait in line for overnight. I refuse to go to any Circuit City/Best Buys anymore. Two years ago a lady in front of me had a hand gun in her purse outside Best Buy. It fell out as she was arguing over someone cutting in line outside.
Then there's hot deals and alternatives she has with ads and locations in the store. She actually creates a folder with ads, pictures, maps, schedule.... all prioritized of course. She scouts it out.
Then theres the other stores nearby that have items that will last for a couple hours (Toy, Jewelry, etc.) Then other stores that the deals should last through the day.
Last year I waited all night at Walmart for the large Plasmas they were giving away. Not bad since you get to wait INSIDE because they're 24/7. I was 5th in line and they were giving away a dozen of them. Should have been a lock. Half an hour before they started I noticed the line swelling at the front. I heard the guy say it was his grandma. Then Grandma had Grampa show up. Then cousins and brothers showed up 'to talk'. Needless to say the Big Plasma's were sold out before the line even moving. I thought there was going to be a riot. Bastards...
I don't like black Fridays. It takes me all weekend to recover.

People still shop in the actual stores?
Online baby. Aside from clothing, there are no longer any deals to be had in the stores that you can't match or beat online.....

absolutely, and even if they don't honor them (which goes against every CC commercial that has aired in the last few weeks), there's nothing that CC or BB sells right now that you can't get for the same price or less through amazon or some other reputable online dealer. On top of that, depending on how much your state charges for tax on such things, amazon can save you money there as well.

I didn't do the camp out thing.last year. jI did a lot online last year....However I don't exactly feel comfortable buying expensive jewelry without touching/seeing it first and shipping things like tv's and monitors sounds dangerous.
While we're on that subject. I'm looking to upgrade the tv situation. Any recommendations?
Things are changing so fast.
I like the Plasmas but have their longevity improved?
LCD?
What can I get for no more than $1200 that is kid proof (screen smudging and such) wont burn-in from the video games? I'd like to get something at least 42+ for the bonus room.

I have a 42 inch plasma Pioneer Elite...LOVE IT!
I bought it from a local store not a "box" store...He told me that the burn issues weren't like they were before. But, I also spent more than 1200.

To answer your questions:
Yes, plasmas have improved all around. I recently purchased this one for $799 from CC.

It's life is listed as the equivalent of 5 years of non-stop play. That's over 15 years of normal use, so you don't have to worry about it there. This model also has proprietary "anti-burn in" technology, so you don't have to worry about video games or the bars at the top and bottom of the screen during widescreen movies burning into it. They just recommend that you break it in for 50-100 hours beforehand with regular television programming or movies that fill the screen, but I'm sure even that is just an unnecessary precaution.
Here's the link to cnet's review of it. They really liked it, as do 99% of all cnet and cc reviewers.

Most newer LCDs are awesome, but you're going to pay at least a few hundred more for the same size screen. You'll want to do a lot of research re: refresh rates, as some are not that great for watching sports IMO. Some suffer from lots of "motion jitter" during fast action sequences that takes away from the experience.
No new flat screen is truly "kid proof" as far as smudges, etc. I'm in the same boat with a 2 year old and 4 year old who always seem to get their hand and finger prints all over tvs, etc. If you can't go with a high wall mount, then you'll just have to purchase a screen cleaner and rag that are available at any big box store or online through amazon, etc. They make tons now that are safe for your tv screen and keep it looking like new.
If you have any other questions, or want to know more about any particular tvs around this size/price, let me know. I went through what you're going through a month ago and did lots of research.

Really depends on you. Plasma weighs way more than LCD, along with having massive glare, both thanks to the glass panel on the front.
I wouldn't make a decision flat out. Shop around for your TV. See how they both look, compare different brands etc. See what suits you the best, not what reviews or other people say.
I personally took my Xbox into the store and sat and played Gears on 7 or 8 different tvs for like 2 hours before I purchased mine.

I would definitely recommend that for any gamers.
If you're solely interested in the tv for movies and basic tv show performance, obviously check them out in person side by side if possible. But be careful. Most of the big box stores like to mess with the settings so that the tvs they need/want to move look better than the low marging ones. What you see in the store can be very different from what you see when you get it home.
I highly recommend cnet.com for all your research needs. They even go so far as to give you all the custom picture settings for each tv they review so you can get the best picture possible. This can be quite handy to have in hand when you go to the stores to compare (if they let you adjust the settings manually, which they should). That way, you are truly comparing apples to apples.

Sweet, I started doing some research and the TV I want is now on sale at Best Buy for $1,950. I have been looking at getting the Sony KDL-46Z4100, 1080p, 120Hz.
AAFES has it for $2,200, and they said they price match, so i'm going to ask If they would honor this deal.
I've been wanting a nice TV, and hopefully i'll be ready to get it.

Thanks for all the info so far. I'll have to get with you later BB. Sounds like you've done your homework.
The TV for the kids room (which includes me :)...lol) is oddly shaped and very bright so I never put our old big screen because of the angles and brightness. I also need it down low so the kids could play their games down at their level. I figured the Plasma is good for it's brightness and the glass would hold up better with fingerprints and such but you have the glare factor.
figure usage... 33% video games, 33% kids videos, 33% sports. They tend to leave this TV on ALL the time in this room.
I havent upgraded our Dish to HD yet and don't plan to for the near future.

No, you do not know what sucks until you have to deal with AAFES.
I cannot stand the, "We go where you go" bull****. It should be, "We go where you go, only to **** you in the ass".
If I had an option, I wouldn't shop from them.

World of Warcraft : Wrath of the Lich King is a prefect example of how AAFES blows. It was supposed to be here on the release date of November 13th, but they screwed up multiple times and the game is still not here.
Luckily, I downloaded it and had my brother buy the game back in the states and gave me that key.
