View Full Version : Sarah Palin blamed by the US Secret Service over death threats against Barack Obama

Note to rightards before you leap: It's the U.S. Secret Service - not some left-wing blog - calling Palin out here.

Sarah Palin's attacks on Barack Obama's patriotism provoked a spike in death threats against the future president, Secret Service agents revealed during the final weeks of the campaign.

The Republican vice presidential candidate attracted criticism for accusing Mr Obama of "palling around with terrorists", citing his association with the sixties radical William Ayers.

The attacks provoked a near lynch mob atmosphere at her rallies, with supporters yelling "terrorist" and "kill him" until the McCain campaign ordered her to tone down the rhetoric.

But it has now emerged that her demagogic tone may have unintentionally encouraged white supremacists to go even further.

The Secret Service warned the Obama family in mid October that they had seen a dramatic increase in the number of threats against the Democratic candidate, coinciding with Mrs Palin's attacks.

Michelle Obama, the future First Lady, was so upset that she turned to her friend and campaign adviser Valerie Jarrett and said: "Why would they try to make people hate us?"

The revelations, contained in a Newsweek history of the campaign, are likely to further damage Mrs Palin's credentials as a future presidential candidate. She is already a frontrunner, with Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, to take on Mr Obama in four years time.

Details of the spike in threats to Mr Obama come as a report last week by security and intelligence analysts Stratfor, warned that he is a high risk target for racist gunmen. It concluded: "Two plots to assassinate Obama were broken up during the campaign season, and several more remain under investigation. We would expect federal authorities to uncover many more plots to attack the president that have been hatched by white supremacist ideologues."

Irate John McCain aides, who blame Mrs Palin for losing the election, claim Mrs Palin took it upon herself to question Mr Obama's patriotism, before the line of attack had been cleared by Mr McCain.

That claim is part of a campaign of targeted leaks designed to torpedo her ambitions, with claims that she did not know that Africawas a continent rather than a country.

The advisers have branded her a "diva" and a "whack job" and claimed that she did not know which other countries are in the North American Free Trade Area, (Canada and Mexico). They say she spent more than $150,000 on designer clothes, including $40,000 on her husband Todd and that she refused to prepare for the disastrous series of interviews with CBS's Katie Couric.

In a bid to salvage her reputation Mrs Palin came out firing in an interview with CNN, dismissing the anonymous leakers in unpresidential language as "jerks" who had taken "questions or comments I made in debate prep out of context."

She said: "I consider it cowardly. It's not true. That's cruel, it's mean-spirited, it's immature, it's unprofessional and those guys are jerks if they came away taking things out of context and then tried to spread something on national news that's not fair and not right."

She was not asked about her incendiary rhetoric against Mr Obama. But she did deny the spending spree claims, saying the clothes in question had been returned to the Republican National Committee. "Those are the RNC's clothes, they're not my clothes. I asked for anything more than maybe a diet Dr Pepper once in a while. These are false allegations."

Speaking as she returned to her native Alaska, Mrs Palin claimed to be baffled by what she claims was sexism on the national stage. "Here in Alaska that double standard isn't applied because these guys know that Alaskan women are pretty tough, on a par with the men in terms of being outdoors, working hard," she said.

"They're commercial fishermen, they're pilots, they're working up on the North slopein the oil fields. You see equality in Alaska. I think that was a bit of as surprise on the national level."

Bush started with a strong Republican congress, a surplus and an opportunity to establish himself as one of the greatest presidents in our history. He did not do that. He successfully lead his party to an epic meltdown. If you expect what is now one of the least popular president in history to be treated kindly than you are mistaken.

Are you really this dense? Bush and the "conservative" party had it coming to them. If you don't think they deserved our criticism then go back and look at the thrashing they took at the polls last week. Obama isn't even in power yet and you are defending idiots who are fueled with hatred from a hockey mom that didn't even know africa was a continent.

Get ****ing real you idiots. A few white supremacist retards make threats or plots to kill this man, and they wouldve done that whether Palin pointed out his associations to Ayers and Wright or not. The secret service had to thwart plots to kill him before Palin was even picked as the VP nominee. Remember the moron wh broke his ankle jumping out a hotel window? Its downright stupid to link anyone who points out Obamas associations to some whackjobs who are trying to kill him. I dont care if it came from the Secret Service or not. These whackjobs are going to try to kill him, and the Secret Service has their work cut out for him. I just hope like hell that the only way this guy leaves office is in 4 years when we elect the first Indian president. This country couldnt handle something like that.

Our government is at war with terrorists. Palin argued the case, over and over again, that Obama "palled around" with terrorists and therefore, was a terrorist. Ergo, Obama is the enemy. Of course, it is possible she didn't realize what effect that might have on the American troglodyte class. After all, if there's one thing we know about her, she is pretty stupid.

Bingo. Palin comes accross as a clueless soccer mom who shouldn't be trusted on the local school board, let alone sharing the podium in a presidential election. I can't believe the GOP would be stupid enough to run her ignorant self for president in four years. If they're looking for a strong female candidate they should look at Texas Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison, who is probably 50 points above Palin on the IQ scale and nowhere near the social retard she is. If the Secret Service thinks Palin's the source of these problems, they're probably right...they're paid to be right.

The foreign news service got it from an excerpt from Newsweek. Its part of a 7 part story from embedded reporters. They have done it for the last 7 elections. The agreement is they get full access but can't report until after the election.

Probably because its not an official threat and was more speculation. Really there is no way to correlate entirely whether Palin caused this directly. It was during the time where Obama started to pull away. So the threats could have been a direct result of his impending win too.

Very true. I would almost go with the latter just because this is the first time a black president has been chosen. This is new ground the country is moving into so its bound to rub the white supremist in a real negative way.

Here is what the first paragraph says:

Sarah Palin's attacks on Barack Obama's patriotism provoked a spike in death threats against the future president, Secret Service agents revealed during the final weeks of the campaign.

The Secret Service is clearly positing a causal connection between Palin's behavior and the threats.

All that remains is for you to decide whether you think the Secret Service knows what it's talking about or not.

I don't see what the difficulty in comprehending this is. I thought it was obvious at the time. In fact, I think I started a thread on this. The country is at war with terrorists and a public figure is calling somebody a terrorist. What sort of response is that supposed to inspire? Let's all put our thinking caps on, kiddies.

I am not saying they are wrong and I was backing up your story with the fact that it orginially came from Newsweek.

All I am saying is its probably more a combination of Obama starting to pull away and becoming evident he is the next president and Palins stupid comments is all.

I don't even think I could have a true die hard republican as a friend. I don't think I would want to associate with those types.

There is always someone you don't know about, they seem normal, you go to their house for the game, they serve wings, beer, chips, they make rude jokes about the cheerleaders, they seem like perfectly normal guys.

But they aren't normal, in college they wanted to diddle the wrong chick, so they went to a rally or joined a club, initially their intentions were good, it was all about sex, but they got trapped, they started to listen and they started to buy into the program.

Most of these people can go years without showing their colors, but eventually you see them on tv at a conservative rally or you hear them talk to the guy who runs the produce department in the local grocery store about how he should stop buying foreign fruit and only carry good red, white and blue American fruit, how those ****ing mescans will steal all our jobs and how they are pumping their granny smiths with pesticides to kill the honest hard working Joe, who may or may not be a plummer.

The only thing to do is the change your name and phone number, move out the state, get a new job, make sure nobody knows you associated with someone like that, one of them, because it will haunt you and it can ruin your life.

Remember, they are everywhere.
