Hey we're going to register tonight. Looking at Bed Bath and Beyond, Macy's and maybe Target. Any advice from folks who have done this before?

Crate and Barrel. Not because its cool and neato because fact is this isn't about you and you really aren't going to get things that guys would deem cool. Nope its because they have these events where you go in with other soon to be married couples before the store opens and you get a scanner and you scan stuff onto your registry. Which still doesn't make it cool but, and here's where you benefit. They have free cupcakes, drinks, and other light breakfast fare.

For you? Applejack Liquor.

You just get one of the guns and go around and scan stuff. Crate and Barrel is a good place.

As a joke we went to Target and scanned everything..pounds of ground beef, toilet paper, etc.. I think the list was like 300 pages.

Yeah am going to think Applejack Liquor just isn't Kaylor's style. What would have been funnier ak is if someone actually bought you the ground beef!

Not sure if you guys are getting a place together, but if so... some place like Lowes will come in more handy than you can imagine.

Also, if it's a mostly-local crowd, don't forget that small businesses in your area really need support right now, and will usually bend over backwards to accommodate these kinds of things.

Other than that, you're picking good ones. Make it easy for people, and personally... I felt like non-frivolous things played a little better perception-wise, if that makes any sense.

No seriously, congrats and best of luck to you.....although I'm only half joking!

I let her handle the registry. As someone else mentioned, it's all about the gifts the woman wants to get. Your gift is simply getting her...

here's a few tips
-Over register, meaning register for more stuff than will be gifted to you. After the wedding you will typically get a discount on any item that was not purchased for you, typically at least 10%
-Make sure you register for gift cards
-Bed, Bath and Beyond is a must to register at due to their 20% off coupons. As I mentioned above, anything that was not bought for you you can now use a gift card, 10% for registering for it + the 20% off coupon. (We got the vacuum we wanted for nearly half of what it retailed for due to it being on sale and using the discounts at BB&B)
-Register for small stuff, ie under $5. This allows someoen that might not have much to spend on you get a few things, instead of feeling like they have to buy the $50 blender, crock pot, etc.
-If registering for pots and pans, knife sets, etc. places like BB&B will spit the set into individual items which are more affordable for your guests.

One thing that always amazes me about message boards, is when a guy who calls himself "Mater Pain" has really solid wedding registry advice.

im going through a similar process too....

registries can always change so don't feel like you are making a decision that you have to stick with.

when it comes to over registering be careful because you may end up getting something that you don't like and something and not getting something on your registry that you do like

so much stuff nowadays comes in huge packages.. for example you can buy like 200 pieces of silverware at once... but usually you can split it up into multiple placesettings. this allows more people to buy stuff.

at macys you get all kinds of deals by registering. for example, if you register for more than 400 dollars worth of a specific brand you get some free gift. also, you can get like discounts for the future if you ever decide to complete the registry yourself.

and.. if you really want something.. you can register on amazon.com

We did Bed, Bath and Beyond. LOVED it!

If you don't get all of something you registered for, you can always take the other sets back and get something else. You get the same bonus deals on extra gifts from manufacturers just for registering for some things. And you get even more gifts if you get a certain amount of stuff from the same manufacturer.

So we did Macy's and Target. I took the advice (well the normal advice) of what a lot people said here and I did what AK did and we started scanning random groceries at Super Target to see if anyone would get them. Some of them I really want to get, like the 99 cent gummy worms. :D I hate Target - especially their return policy which sucks - but Amy loves it. This became a point of contention with us with us agreeing to split it up. Interestingly Macy's was cheaper than target especially on some of the big ticket items. I tagged everything I could there so that when we went to tag stuff at Target it wouldn't matter. We tagged a flat screen at Target only because they don't sell them at Macy's. Then found them for $200 cheaper at Walmart a few days ago. I pointed this out and she was kind of miffed. Stupid Target.

We did check Bed Bath and Beyond and while we found some things we liked we didn't find enough to warrant registering there after the other two places. Macy's has the discount on things we don't get, so we'll at least get that.

We are probably going to go back and update it quite a bit. I put a Wii on there and then bought one two days ago (4 games plus one nunchuck for $225. Thank you young student who looks like the kid from the creepy diesel secret dot com commercial!!!) I still haven't tagged a cutting board because I can't find one I like. I liked the one at Walmart (of course) maybe someone will get us a really classy one from Williams Sonoma.

Isn't this just the American Dream? Is there a boy in America who hasn't, at one point or another, dreamed of getting a really awesome cutting board for his wedding?

Dare to dream, my good friend!

If you registered for fine china, silverware or crystal at Macy’s, register at Bed, Bath & Beyond, they carry the same stuff as Macy’s and people will have the choice of where to get it from. Some will use the BBB 20% discount at BBB, but some might have a Macy’s charge card and would want to use that to get rewards. Just a thought.

Just remember that some people will look at your registery and buy things wherever they want. It's just the way it goes. And, most of this stuff just depends on how big your wedding is.

Hey we're going to register tonight. Looking at Bed Bath and Beyond, Macy's and maybe Target. Any advice from folks who have done this before?

Here's a glimpse into your future:

Kaylore: I told my wife I wouldn't drink tonight. Besides, I got a big day tomorrow. You guys have a great time.

Kaylore's single friends: A big day? Doing what?

Kaylore: Well, um, actually a pretty nice little Saturday, we're going to go to Home Depot. Yeah, buy some wallpaper, maybe get some flooring, stuff like that. Maybe Bed, Bath, & Beyond, I don't know, I don't know if we'll have enough time.

LOL Yeah I can see that. It's already going that way. Everyday I'm doing something for the wedding. Weekends going forward are pretty much wedding stuff until mid January.
