The really silly thing is this abortion hangup. It's been thirty years. The conservatives finally got all the guys on the court they wanted (Roberts, Alito, Thomas, Scalia, Souter) and yet that court has refused to accept a RvW case. Why? Roberts said it right up front. RvW is decided law with thirty years of precedence and he would be hard pressed to overturn it now because he has a great respect for stare decisis. Even if the court was to overturn it, it would just go back to individual states to make their own decisions. If these people were serious about the abortion issue they would stop being such absolutists about it and vote for candidates who would do the most to reduce unwanted pregnancies, ie. teach birth control, make it available, fight for increased benefits for adoption programs, etc.

What the heck is a YES on 8 ad doing on a "Colorado" board?
Oh well just for equal time:
No on 8!! It's none of your business!

The anti-abortionists have never been very smart. Look what conservationists did. For years they tried to protect different areas of the world, habitats and diversity sanctuaries, using politics. They failed miserably. So what did they do? They built huge coalitions like the WWF and started buying up those lands. They became the owners. What if the anti-abortionists took a multi-pronged approach? First, teach birth control. Second, make it available. Third, create an adoption network. Fourth, create a huge fund that pays for mothers to go ahead and have their babies, takes care of their medical bills, (hell, they could open their own clinics and compete with PP) and take care of the adoption process for them. All one has to do is look at the stats: Where education goes up, abortion goes down. They'll never do this, though. They prefer their impotent self-righteous rage.

One would think the people would begin to get a clue...if the Republicans didn't overturn Roe vs. Wade when they were in solid control of all 3 branches of government, they aren't going to do it at all. The abortion issue has been paying off very well for Republicans for a long, long time and they want to continue to cash in on it... logic says that they'd be idiots to actually do something that would negate one of their more-effective "wedge issues". No, they're going to continue to whine about it and promise to overturn it, but that's clearly nothing more than campaign rhetoric.

Just because this guy votes according to "moral issues", it doesn't mean he's a moron. People have all sorts of reasons to vote for a particular candidate. The interesting thing is that I don't think even McCain cares one iota about overturning Roe v. Wade...

Registering as a democrat when you're going to vote 100% based on pro-life issues?
That is moronic.

I like the idea of leaving it to the States. I wouldn't want abortion illegal in my state but I would like to see decisions that make the states more powerful.
It makes since because people in Nebraska boonies want different laws then those in NYC. Why would people in NYC want to make people in some small town live by same laws. Also why would podunk USA want to make NYC live by theirs?
Best thing would be to empower the states.

HUH??!!! No one has to get one if they don't want one. What would empowering the states do except deny the right of someone who does want one the ability to have it done. The arguement here is about denying rights over a moral issue. Why leave that to the states?

Hey, a small item we agree on, go figure...although, I will say, some things should still be at the federal level, like civil rights.

Because of all parts of our government the federal level has NO right to regulate morality.

Well since we are talking about that issue, there is an amendment on the Colorado ballot defining a person.
Amendment 48 proposes amending the Colorado Constitution to:
define the term "person" to "include any human being from the moment of fertilization";
and apply this definition of person to the sections of the Colorado Constitution that protect the natural andessential rights of persons, allow open access to courts for every person, and ensure that no person has his or her life, liberty, or property taken away without due process of law.

This is why I'm opposed to the petition process. We have a representative republic. Use your representative, buttheads. What good have we got from the petitition process? That zealot, idiot Bruce's Tabor Amendment which has cost us nothing but grief and more money than it's worth. If this #48 passes, expect Colorado to become the lawyer Mecca of the U.S. and our government to hemmorage money for years until this idiotic idea is thrown out.

I realize they think they are being real clever and sliding their bs under the Roe v Wade door, but in reality they are opening up a Pandora's Box of trouble that, if it passes, will turn Colorado into the focal point of a whole ****load of craziness. But isn't that the motto of zealots? They know not what they do.

Hint It's not the moral issue that makes him slow it's the fact he is undecided at this late date. He still can't decide between Mccain and Obama on abortion???

That was the moral right's scary influence. I was in Belgium recently and was surprised to notice on TV a young couple walking on the beach completely nude in a commercial. It actually made me think of the embarrassing reaction to the Janet Jackson SB nipple exposure, toss in Clinton's BJ and (rightly so) Europe thinks we Americans are a silly group of people. It's too bad so much attention is put on these type of events because so many really great things that originate in America gets lost in the sensationalism of the trivial.

for sure basic human rights and the constitution can't be gotten rid of just because a state votes for it.
I think for drug laws, alcohol limits, medical marijuana, and even abortion could be handled at the state level. Maybe 2-3 states would put restrictions on abortion but not very many I bet.

There are just too many abortions. I'm not religious and i'm a man so abortion not a big issue for me. I do understand how people that are convinced it's murdering a life can't help but be fervent in there opposition to abortion.

True, but California already voted for medical marijuana and the growing of it for licensed facilities, but the feds keep shutting them down and arresting people based on federal law. It's really annoying.
