What do we need to pull together in order to win this game with short rest?

I wonder what the situation is on DJ and McCree is too...

I don't like the fact that Cleveland was at home today and gets to be at home for the Thursday game. Big disadvantage for the traveling team. Why wasn't Cleveland forced to travel today to even things up a little?

As posted in the other thread, DJ has a torn MCL in his left knee, so he'll be out a month or so. Don't know on McCree.

My attitude is attack. That's the fun in football, it's a game of constant attack. TD's are hard to acquire, denying them is just as precious. I bet 95% of you guys on this board never were good enough athletes to play football. Or maybe your Momma's wouldn't sign off allowing you to play. Football is the ultimate game, it's a game for headhunters. Getting quite a bit wimpy lately.

Stop the TOs, and get the running game going. Get Hillis more involved in the offense and make sure Jay makes his damn reads.

The defense needs to blitz more on first and second downs. Get Woodyard in the game with DJ being injured.

:charge: I could see the squad benefiting from the short week, on the road, backs against the wall, against a team coming off a win, chip on the shoulder, noone thinks they can do it, no time to stop and think about, guys in the foxhole...

Nobody in the country is going to give them a chance against the Browns following the last two performances and looking at the injury report, nobody.

Open up a bunch of trick plays on O & ST's, blitz Anderson on every down....really, what do they really have to lose at this point?

establish the run, limit turnovers, blitz/tighter coverage on defense

Hmm might actually improve the defense. Get someone in there with some football smarts.

Enough d*cking around, give Torian an entire series or two get into an offensive rhythm. See what he has. Establish the running game early through creativity and misdirection. Opposing defenses are eating our strech plays alive.

Get Marshall going early with curl routes, flares, hell, an end-around. With someone as imposing as BMarsh we should have an array of short underneath passes that serve as runs (5-yard, 6-yard stuff).

Rediscover the bootleg and rollout. Jay is athletic and deceptively fast get him outside the pocket occasionally.

Run the ball, setup the play action pass. If the D is going to get burned then get burned being aggressive....At least then it looks like your trying and that you care.

Shanahan said something about Pittman going out in the press conference?

Damn...

Champ Bailey, Boss Bailey, and now DJ Williams out? We won't have Boss back but we will be without DJ and Champ for a couple weeks...

Woodyard is coming in soon enough.

Also Pittman is getting an MRI on his neck. Doubt he plays Thursday.

How do we win...

Solid blocking, establishing the running game. Precision passing by Jay and a rock solid defense executing our gameplan....ROFL!

Yeah it could happen!

I wanna see 46 leading the way for some carries by 22. We've got to keep hillis on the field based on what he's done before, and especially what he did today.

With the neck injury that Pittman seems to be afflicted with, I wouldn't be completely surprised if he's out for 2-3 weeks or even IR. We've only got Hall and Torain healthy unless Selvin is ready to come back (feels like he's been out for a while...don't remember exactly how long though?). Give Hillis/Torain some lead blocking and let's see what happens.

If McCree is injured, will we be seeing Roderick Rogers get bumped up from the PS? At least with Rogers and Lowry in, we'd have some speed in the secondary.

Scheffler is real close to being back, so hopefully he can give us that threat up the seams against the Browns.

Oh Waaaa...

We went to Miami, back home, to Buffalo and then to London.
Out of 8 games you have played at home 5 times.

And SD lost how many of those? Exactly. It's a big disadvantage.

At this rate, I'd be happy if our players escaped that dump without any staph infections.

Gotta open up the playbook against the Browns. Seems like teams have been playing to stop the run and force Jay to pass - which has not worked well for us. Maybe start the game with some end-arounds and rollouts, then work the run later on. Or run eye formation with 2 tight ends (like we did against the Colts on Sunday night like 5 years ago) and pound the Cleveland run defense up the middle. We've got other options on offense and its about time we started using them.

I still think the biggest problem with our team is the turnovers. We need to take care of the football. If we don't turn the ball over against the Browns we will win. Its not exactly like the Browns are playing really well either.

So you deal with it. Cant use that as an excuse. We had to play better. Close but no cigar dont cut it. Thankfully we fired our DC.
Hope that helps more instead traveling 10,000 miles as an excuse...which you never heard any of us use.

Better coaching and some kind of running game would help.

How do we win?

Both coordinators should put all their plays on little slips of paper and put then in a big hat and mix them up really good. Just pull out a slip of paper before every play. Couldn't be any worse then how they are calling plays now.

For real, we really really need to get Cutler out of the pocket on some more plays to help simplify things. Run some bootlegs and give him half the field to look at. Get him going again and build his confidence. He's losing that and it's showing. Have him even run a few of those bootlegs.

How about the ole shuttle pass? Where the hell has that play gone? I haven't seen that in years it seems like. And not just with our team, most teams stopped running it. I wonder why. Throw in some plays like that to mix it up, keep the defense guessing. Call a reverse, a flea fliker. Why the hell not at this point. How about a 20 yard flag route by Royal and he laterals to Brandon YAC. The ole hook and lateral. I'd love to see that.

Exactly. I think Dierdorf pointed this out last game (don't get me wrong, most of the time I think he is an idiot), but why not just use him in short yardage. He is so good in YAC - exploit it. There has to be some reason no one has thought of this before.

1. No turnovers. As coach boone said, if you put the ball on the turf, I will break my foot off in your john brown hindparts.

2. Get Marshall involved from play 1. WR screen or slant, you choose, shanny.
3. You blitz every down. I want quinn thinking he's in a m-f'ing mosquito swarm back there. If we go down, we go down aggressively, not passively.
4. Refer to #1 for those with questions.
