I think Obama would be having a tougher time if the GOP would have had
the brains to pick Mike Huckabee as their candidate. 2:35 minutes in is

Mike Huckabee is out of his league. I lived in Arkansas during his administration, and it was a freakin MESS. He's turned into a likeable guy, but he is FAR right on social issues. As evangelical as they come, under the scrutiny of a national election he's going to have a lot of trouble attracting independents that are sick and tired of the evangelical faction of the Republican party. It's the same issue Palin is having now.
The Reagan alliance between fiscal conservatives and religious neo-liberals seems to be broken. I fully expect the Republican party to put up a true Goldwater conservative in 2012 (assuming a McCain loss). The majority of the party is motivated by fiscal issues, not value ones.
Or maybe I'm just being hopeful. After all, the Democrat leanings of voters like myself is a rather unnatural one. I've been voting Democrat for the last several election cycles despite my misgivings about a lot of Democrat policies (my loathing of unions is well documented). A fiscal conservative that promotes constituational integrity and social freedom gets my vote. Huckabee is not that in the slightest, he's essentially the opposite.

The Huckster would have attracted the same hard-right snake handler base as Palin, but as we've learned, that just isn't enough to win.

I've read Huck's books. He undersrtands the separation of church and state.
He was by far the best candidate.

As a former minister, I do not trust him when it comes to the separation of church and state, period.
That and his position on social issues, sink the Huckster for me, he goes into the "no way" catagory.

I didn't know much about Huckabee before this campaign. I kind of liked him. The more I learned about his real politics the more disappointed I became.
He turns out to be like Mitt Romney in that he looks good but once you get past the surface there are real problems.
