View Full Version : C'Mon, let's overanalyze the Miami game!

OK, since we have been football deprived this week, let's play armchair head coach and figure out why our team will win (or not) this weekend.
I'll start one on the "win" side of the column.
I have watched a bit of Miami this season. The first thing I see is that during their wins this year they have been able to get some good QB pressure (like yesterday), but when the O-line is good at pass-pro, they get picked apart.
I think our O-line comes off rested and ready, advantage Broncos.
I think we get back to our traditional quick start on offense and score two TD's in the first quarter. I don't know if our D also gives two up, but its a start.

Yes....that would be the optimistic view....wouldn't it?
The pessimistic view is that my grandma (in a wheelchair) could run for 150+ on our defense....and Ryan Leaf could throw for 500+.......

I think Chad Pennington's going to pick us apart. He's the perfect QB to kick the sh*t out of us. He's not regarded as a star so we're likely to take him lightly, he's patient and goes through his progressions as well as any QB in football and he's very good at finding mismatches - *cough* Marquand Manual *cough*

EVERY QB has picked us apart this year.....why should Pennington be any different? And if our defense takes ANYONE lightly after they way they've performed this year.....well, they've got to be the dumbest bunch of guys to ever take a field.

Miami is being very physical this year, kind of a by-product of the Tuna...
They kind of remind me of the Jags a bit, we know how do against these physical teams..though the win against the 'Bucs gives us some hope..
I think Eddie Royal has a huge game for us, maybe, he even wins it for us...

Miami is one of those teams that for the life of me I just can't figure out. One week they're dominating the Pats or Bills; the other, they're losing at home to the Jets or only putting up 17 pts against the Chargers.
Though the more I think about it, the more this is holding true for about 75% of the league right now. Parity is one thing, but this really is a strange year.

Ronnie Brown, Ricky Williams, Ted Ginn (174 yards receiving yesterday), Pennington on fire. I really think we may be in trouble. The offense better be ready for a shootout!

Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams are the real danger. These guy must be soo hyped for this game. I imagine they are both talking about rushing for 200 yards EACH! in this game.
If DEN can just HIT Pennington 1! freakin time, he will be off his game. Just once, and he folds like a wet paper towel for the rest of the game. Pennington is a total pu$$y once you get to him. He cant concentrate for the rest of the game.
Just drill pennington one time, and then DEN can concentrate on stopping the run. yeah, right.

The gameplan will be very well written for this game and Denver comes out firing on Offense. If they dont turn the ball over this is an easy win for us.
The Defense will come out hyped but will fail eventually. As usual this game depends on our pass rush. We need people in the backfield all day to win this battle against a good RB duo.

WOW, 1 for the win column, 10 posts for the lose.
OK, another for the win column. We did ok at the beginning of the season selling out on the run on first and second down, then making the opposing QB air it out on third downs. Pennington can throw up a few ducks, right?
They certainly won't be "scared" of our corners this game, which may actually lead to a pick. Can Cutler handle the pressure better than Pennington?
Broncos win?

Sadly, that's a semi-accurate statement. In the past, the NFL's been known to give a few beneficial calls to East Coast teams and teams with large fan bases (Pit, GB) - but this season's referring has been extremely one-sided in many games. It's almost as though Goodell wants a return to the parody that helped the NFL grow it's fan base early in this decade.
I suppose it's better than the NBA that was going to have the Lakers and Celtics in the Finals come hell or high water.

I am hoping this is more like the Tampa game than the KFC or Patsy games.
Our O has to control the tempo of the game. Since we are missing both Bailey's and starting a Rookie in Champs place it could either be worse or we get a pick from JW (he is far from being a MF'er) for being out of Position.
I hope the D took a good hard look at their manhood last week and are coming to play the 2nd half of the year.
Teams need to get better in the 2nd half. I hope this one finds a way to get it done.

Broncos O vs. Dolphins D:
Joey Porter is currently on pace to break the season total sack record and the Miami defesne has magicly turned from bottom feeder to stud breeder, why? The big man up front Jason Ferguson. Ferguson has been to the Dolphins 3-4, what Jemal Williams has been for SD over last couple of years. When Parcells joined the organization after a dismal 1-15 record he quickly negotiated a trade with his former team, the Dallas Cowboys for Aiken Odelle and Anthony Fasno. Odelle has manned the middle with Chaning Crowder, while former LE Matt Roth (285 pds) has been moved to LOLB.
Look for the Dolphins to overload blitz the right side of the line with Roth, rookie Kendel Langford, and Odelle forcing Jay Cutler to roll out of the pocket directly into Joey Porter. The Broncos Offensive line will have to execute flawlessly against the Dolphins front seven in order to force favorable match ups. If the Broncos line up with one TE on the right side of the line Ryan Clady will have to be on his toes in his blitz pick up, Ferguson stunts hard to the right forcing Ben Hamilton to double team him with Center Casey Wigmen Clady will be overloaded with both Vonnie Holiday and Joey Porter comming off the edge. Look for the Broncos to run alot of Two Tight end sets. Another blocking mismatch in the Dolphins favor is LB Matt Roth (285) vs any of Denvers FBs, or RBs.
The Dolphins have been practicing with FS Jason Allen at his natural position Corner all week and intend to match him up with Bradon Marshall. Jason Allen spelled an injured Will Allen against the Bills and realy impressed the coaching staff allowing two catchs. Personally I wasent that impressed he tends to play the reciver and not read the Quarterback, and has poor play recognition skills at one time continuing to streak down the field as the reciver he was covering ran a curl pattern two yards underneath Allen, before Allen made a break on the ball. One positive in Allens favor is his size (6'1" 215) and his tackling ability against a very physical and ellusive Brandon Marshall. Will Allen will cover Eddie Royal and Andre Goodman will cover Brandon Stokley in the slot. Allen matchs up very well with Royals speed and agility and should present a sizeable challenge for the rookie WR. Goodman has been off and on all season having his best game of the season last week against the Bills registering two crucial pass deflections on third down. FS Renaldo Hill is servicable but not a game breaker, he is a solid tackler with decent speed and coverage ability look for Hill to be double teaming Marshall over the top frequently. Yaramiah Bell is having a pro bowl season, teams have been deliberatly avoiding Bell on the field because he is with out a doubt Miami's best player in the secondary.
As long as the Broncos protect the ball and the Offensive line plays smart though out the entire game the Broncos should be able to move the ball effetivly against the Dolphins. The Texans managed 485 yards against the Dolphins with Steve Slayton and Ahman Green running the ball, and Matt Schuab Passing. The Broncos offense is much better personel wise than the Texans and they run very similar schemes. Plus Mikes son is the Texans offensive quardinator and Kubiak is his former right hand man, im sure hes talked the game over with both men. The Broncos need to run the ball in spells but keep the ball in the air and gain an early lead so they can pound the ball down the Dolphins throats and wear out the front seven.
Key Matchups:
Joey Porter vs. Daniel Graham/Ryan Clady
Casey Wieggman vs. Jason Ferguson

What did you see in this guy? Even just avg fans could tell he didn't have a football body.
You do now realize that the Chiefs have to draft another QB right? That's all I'm hitting on.

Hey guys. Was wondering where I'd find some chat about the game.
Yah Miami's defense is very Jekyll and Hyde. When they are on they are on, but if they aren't they get very cold fast.
It all comes down to the line play. We rotate 4 DE's in Langford/Merling/Holliday and Randy Starks. If they can get pressure then the rest of the D falls into place. It's when they can't that everything falls apart.
They made a couple switches in the Buffalo game that will most likely be played out the same way here. They promoted Jason Allen to the nickel and he had an ok game for his first real action of the year. They also switched to more man cover and eased up on the zone coverage. For the most part it worked, but I'm curious to see if it can work with Denver's great WR's. They basically let Evans have his yards (33 of which came late when it was pretty much over), and shut down everything else (Lynch was their best receiver after Evans with 5 for 34..everyone else had no more then 2 catches or 26 yards).
Like I said though Miami's D is very Jekyll/Hyde'ish. Honestly 2 of our LB's aren't any good (Roth/Crowder) and a 3rd is merely ok (Akin). The DE's in the 3-4 are very young except old man Holliday (Merling 23, Starks 24, Langford 22) so they are prone to making mistakes in which holes they hit at times, but at least they do so at 100% when they do. Our secondary is very mediocre so should be exploitable as good offenses like Houston/Arizona tore it up.
Ways to attack Miami.
- Run No Huddle. It prevents substitutions and Miami's been having a hard time the last 2 games getting their calls down when it happens.
- Run outside the tackles. Last 3 games Miami's had trouble sealing the outside run off.
-Take your deep shots. Especially at Goodman. He's quite good at letting WR's get by him. As a whole Miami gives up a lot of 20+ plays and the Secondary has stone cold hands when it comes to INT's.
-Don't underestimate the offense. For all the questions the offense gets it's actually quite efficient. Miami leads the league in first downs. If you can force them into 3rd and 7 or longer you'll win easily as Miami is something like 1 for 32 on 3rd and 7 or longer but they average nearly 7 yards on first down. Penny has also had 4 100+ rating games his last 5. That 5th? 92. Chad's #2 in the league in completion percentage and yards per pass attempt (8.47) and only has thrown 3 INT's (one at the end of the Jets game trying to drive for the win and another was tipped up into the air by the WR).
-Expect the unexpected. Sparano isn't playing any favorites and the game plan revolves around different people every week. So one week Fasano's the star, the next week it's Patrick Cobbs, another week it's Ronnie Brown, or like last week it was Ted Ginn.

Hi! My brother is a Dolphins fan so I've seen them play a bit. I think it should be a close game IF the offense has a good day and doesn't turn the ball over. If not... you win easily. (well, that is true for any game, as we've seen)
I thought Crowder was pretty good? Or at least he had some potential... as I recall. ???

Shanahan is a single wing master. Hopefully he can get the guys in place to use their instincts better,
Shanahan may be the single wing master, but I am the 20 wing master... 25 if I have some ranch dipping sauce and a couple beers.

4th season now. If they are talking 'potential' in your 4th season you just don't have it. He's a big reason why the team is getting gashed against the run and he has 0 cover skills. I highly doubt Miami re-signs him in the offseason and lets him wander on.

This yr a real failure for Chiefs because it proved to you all that you don't have QB to build around. Croyle is a joke and you spent all offseason telling us how good he was going be.
.
I sure didn't. Stop putting words in my mouth.
I did, however, tell you that your defense would suck. Again. How about those apples?

I'm talking about a couple of years ago, so yeah, it was potential at the time. Haven't watched Miami much this year so I don't know how he's doing but I had the idea that he was at least good.
Man, I hope we beat you or my brother won't let me hear the end of it.

Denver @ Miami is never a good thing. In fact, Denver on the east coast is hardly ever a good thing. Miami in a blowout since our D can't stop an 8 year old RB from rushing 200 yards on them, imagine what RW & RB will do to us.

I hate bye weeks. We can talk and talk and talk and talk and it means nothing until we see how our guys respond... AUGH!

The game's in Denver. Does this change your blowout prediction much?

I have this as a loss for you guys. The Dolphins defense is good enough to give your offense problems. Meanwhile, I have Ronnie Brown in my FF league. Good times!

Well, look who comes to gloat. You honestly believe anyone around here is going to give your fat ass any sort of "props"?
You think you were the only person in the world to magically know to play Ronnie Brown in fantasy football? Get the **** out of here.
