Discipline is a good thing to have, especially when a player needs it, but I would not have hired Singletary if I were the York family. Even on an interim basis. He's unqualified to be an NFL head coach. He's never been a college coordinator or head coach. He's never been an NFL coordinator. I don't really care whether he's a motivator or fiery, he's not qualified.

Props for showing some backbone to VD, though.

LMAO, yet had the creepy Singletary liked holding court a little too much.

Saw the presser clip on Fox. It needs to hit youtube immediately.

It's not nearly as funny as say, they Dennis Green deal, but it's solid. And it's all focused on one guy. None of this "we'll keep the matter in-house" things.

REP!

This was desperation on both York and Mikes part. I don't see how he can succeed this year.

true but a couple reports explain that Nolan hand picked him to be his successor....Under qualified, maybe but this team needs a good kick in the ass.

I can't wait until him and Martz go toe to toe.

You just described the same thoughts by the Philly media when Andy Reid was hired as their head man back in 1999.

He just picked up his 100th win as HC of the eagles this past weekend.

Bill Cowher was KC's special teams coach when he got the job from the Steelers

You can add Herm and Zorn to but those are the outlying cases, not predictors.

I herd that when Nolan sat down with the gm or pres or who ever makes thoes decisions he told them to get mike but that he will probably turn you down so when he does call me and I will make sure he does it.

He was so close to going Dennis Green but he caught himself. I love the passion and the mentality. I hope he either keeps this job or is given a chance eventually because he is a motivator and holds his team accountable.

Publicly throwing the kid under the bus was uncalled for. Especially when the kid isn't a problem child - an underachiever? Yes. Problem child? No. He made a silly mistake that costed the team. Move on.

It's great to be emotional and motivational and maybe it will work in thier favor in the end. Probably not.

Chalk this one up to inexperience.

Maybe he was giving it to Vernon a little harsh, but he definitely made a statement. Those kids that don't respond are probably keeping this team back. We know Davis has tone of talent, but he hasn't really shown it on the field yet. If they kiss and make up, this should be good for the culture of the 9'ers.

Just let Singletary get fired in San Fran and bring him over here. I would love a hard nosed ass kicker for D-coordinator. You know he would build the team from the LB's on up and he will eventually find a way to field a Bears-like smash mouth D.

Cito Pelon
10-27-2008, 04:12 PM
He got his oats off pretty good, but he might have picked his battle in the wrong place at the wrong time. He came off sounding kind of foolish saying "you can penalize me all the time for having 10 guys on the field instead of 11." WTF was that? If you go on a rant, you have to know what the hell you're saying, you can't just throw gibberish out there. He tried to take it too far, and may have pissed on his own feet by doing so.

Mike just did something that no other coach in this league would have the balls to do. I'm glad he did it, and I hope some other coaches grow some balls after this.

Man if this guy was the coach of our D..........man, I can only imagine.

Right or wrong this tough guy **** doesn't play with these players in this day and age. Even Coughlin had to mellow out before he could get his team over the top. While it's fun to watch and gives us something to talk about, Mike's just spinning his wheels if he thinks this is the way to get things done.

Funny...anyone remember the mini melt down many posters had when they traded up to grab Cutler and didn't trade up further for this turd?

If I remember correctly, he was the most coveted player coming out that year here on this board. By far!

While there were a variety of opinions, most either wanted to go up for davis or back to stockpile picks.

Singletary taking everything he learned from ditka?

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3673441

His team was down 20-3 and he wanted to illustrate how badly they were playing.

So, a 49ers spokesman confirmed, Singletary dropped his pants. The coach was was wearing boxers.

The motivational tool was first reported by Arizona radio station XTRA's Mike Jurecki and The (Santa Rosa, Calif.) Press-Democrat.

"He was just dramatizing how embarrassing it was," 49ers director of public relations Aaron Salkin told The Press Democrat.

NFC West blog

Mike Singletary risks becoming a punch line in NFL locker rooms -- if he isn't one already, Mike Sando writes. Blog

• Blogs: NFC West | NFL
According to Salkin, Singletary told the team at halftime: "We're getting our tails whipped out there, now let's get back out there."

Singletary, whose team has is on a bye week, issued a statement: "I used my pants to illustrate that we were getting our tails whipped on Sunday and how humiliating that should feel for all of us. I needed to do something to dramatize my point; there were other ways I could have done it but I think this got the message across. I am excited about having the team back at practice on Monday so we can get back to work."
