Toledo native Fred Davis is a big loss for the Redskins.

He was off to another decent season before the torn Achilles tendon in today's game.

Chris Cooley re-signed with the Redskins to replace Davis.

That injury probably cost Fred Davis a nice long term contract.

Last season he was having a very good year (59-796-3 TDs) before getting suspended for the last 4 games of the season.

I don't see any way he gets a multi year deal between the suspension last season and the torn Achilles tendon this season.

Green Bay Packers defensive back Charles Woodson has a broken right collarbone and will be out approximately six weeks, coach Mike McCarthy announced Monday afternoon.

Woodson Played A Lot
Charles Woodson has played 95.9 percent of the Packers' defensive snaps this season, missing just 21 snaps. He's one of four Packers defenders to play in at least 90 percent of the team's snaps this season.

Woodson, 36, suffered the injury during the Packers' victory over the St. Louis Rams on Sunday.

McCarthy said Woodson has an X-ray on Monday morning, which confirmed the injury. He said the plan is for Woodson to return and the Packers will play with 52 players this week.

Woodson broke his left collarbone in Green Bay's Super Bowl XLV victory over Pittsburgh. McCarthy said this injury to his right collarbone isn't as serious as the previous injury to his left collarbone.

He's the product of having good players around him, especially in his time in Minnesota. But I think he can play strong side DE, especially in a scheme like ours, as he is a plus run defender with some ability to pass rush.

My inner GM would tell me that a team like Cleveland could pursue him to play strong side, and then they draft Jarvis Jones to play SOLB and run a scheme like us and Seattle which would give Cleveland a very formidable front.

Sheard, Taylor, Rubin, Edwards.. With Jones coming around Edwards and Jackson at Mike.. With a great corner in Haden and SS in Ward.

That's just my speculation..

Funny how the article says exactly what I have said his best attributes are. He can stop the run and still manage to rush the passer. I watched him play in Minny, he had non stop one on one match ups, and he flourished. He can't speed rush from the weak side.. He doesn't have the moves or technique to take on Left Tackles.

That's why BB is a bad coach. Karma for running scores up.

actually his methodology is sound..

since ST accounts for just a shade under 30% of the plays it is silly not to have starters playing on ST..

It would be like taking out your best players for 30% of your plays on defense or offense..

now as for running the scores up.. sounds like sour grapes to me..

When players are not going all out injuries are most likely to occur..

if you are going to tell an athlete to take it easy that is silly, they want to go for the throat.. only the pansy ass liberals think if you slow it down the other team not be embarrassed..

It is the NFL if hey can not compete the team should forfeit up front..

Romney has an epic record in business. Only an idiot would try to equate a good politician = to good business record. Obama, the lawyer and senator for a few years who missed 60% of his votes and never sponsored a piece of meaningful legislation and sunk millions of tax payer money into bad business ventures, and his green jobs plan has come full circle as a total waste of money that didn't help the people getting jobs, the industry or the government, is the biggest idiot in terms of business.

Obama is good at 1 thing - getting elected. He sucks at everything else.

I'm not getting into the politarding because both candidates suck and I didn't even vote, but the republicans lost that election the moment Romney won the nomination. Low and behold the Steelers are alive and the Ravens are faltering. Here's their schedule

@ Washington - a dangerous game.
Vs. Denver - Probably the worst on their schedule.
Vs. NY Giants - The G-men play very well in December and will bring it.
@ Cincy - I want nothing to do with Cincy right now. They are really starting to play some bad ass football.

The Steelers schedule:
Vs. Chargers - They probably won't even need Ben.
@ Cowboys - The Cowboys suck.
Vs. Bengals - Tough game but they get them at home and Ben will probably be back.
Vs. Browns - Another tough game but at home and they usually win.

Honestly The division is there for the Bengals or Steelers to take. I would love to see the Steelers back here in January too. The Ravens could not just lose the seed, they could lose the division.

Brandon Marshall and Calvin Johnson both had huge games and are both on pace for monster, possibly record breaking seasons.

Brandon Marshall had 10 receptions for 165 yards on Sunday. That gives him 91 receptions for 1,182 yards and 8 TDs. That puts him on pace for 121 receptions for 1,576 yards and 11 TDs.

The single season record for receptions in a season is 143 receptions by Marvin Harrison in 2002, so B-Marsh will probably come up short of that record, as he'd need to average 13.25 receptions a game for the next 4 games to break Marvin Harrison's record.

Calvin Johnson had 13 receptions for 171 yards and a TD on Sunday. That gives him 86 receptions for 1,428 yards and 5 TDs. That puts him on pace for 115 receptions for 1,904 yards and 7 TDs.

The NFL single season receiving yards record is 1,848 yards set by Jerry Rice in 1995....so CJ has a legit shot at breaking that record.

With Detroit's season in the ****ter, I'm sure they'll make an effort to get him the record.

Anquan Boldin went over 10,000 career receiving yards today.

Rookie RB Doug Martin is having a nice season....1,234 yards rushing and 11 total TDs (10 rushing and 1 receiving).

Aldon Smith had 2 more sacks today, and has 19.5 sacks on the season. Smith has a good chance of breaking the single season sack record of 22.5, set by Michael Strahan in 2001.

Brandon Marshall had 10 receptions for 160 yards and a TD to add to his monster season. Marshall has 101 receptions for 1,342 yards and 9 TDs on the season.

Adrian Peterson toted the rock 31 times for 154 yards and 2 TDs today. He's good a very good chance of rushing for 2,000+ yards this season. Peterson has 1,600 yards rushing and 10 TDs on the season. He'll need to average 133.3 yards rushing per game, over the last 3 games, to reach the elite 2,000 yards rushing club.

I've came around and don't like Cutler near as much as I used too but, he isn't getting any help from his WR's or OL. This has to be the worst OL I have ever seen at a NFL level. No QB can be expected to produce with those tools.

Trent Richardson not demoted by Cleveland Browns

By Gregg Rosenthal
Around The League editor
Published: Dec. 14, 2012 at 12:45 p.m. Updated: Dec. 14, 2012 at 01:21 p.m.

The headline in Friday's Canton Repository caught me off guard: "Childress says no plans to demote Richardson."

Wait, what?

It's remarkable this even is a conversation. The Cleveland Browns took Richardson with the No. 3 overall pick in the draft. They traded up for him! His backup is ... Montario Hardesty. Yet it's not that crazy a suggestion when you look at the numbers.

Richardson is averaging 24 carries per game during the past month, without a 100-yard game. He hasn't averaged more than 3.6 yards per carry in any of those games and was held to just 42 yards last week. For perspective, New York Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw has the same number of yards as Richardson this season in 51 fewer attempts.

I decided to look into some of the records/milestones that players might reach with 2 games left in the regular season:

Records/Milestones:

Passing attempts: Drew Bledsoe owns the single season record of 691, set in 1994. Matt Stafford has 629 attempts, with 2 games left to play. 63 pass attempts in the next 2 games will give Stafford the record, which looks very attainable.

Steven Jackson went over 10,000 career rushing yards last week. Jackson has 909 yards rushing in the season and only needs 91 yards to notch his 8th straight season of rushing for 1,000+ yards.

Adrian Peterson has 1,812 yards rushing on the season and only needs 188 yards in the last 2 games (94 yards per game) to hit the 2,000 yard mark and 294 yards (147 yards per game) to pass Eric Dickerson's single season rushing record of 2,105 yards set in 1984.

Brandon Marshall (107) and Calvin Johnson (106) have a chance to finish the season with 2nd most receptions in a single season. They won't reach Marvin Harrison's all time record of 143 receptions, set in 2002, but they could reach the 2nd spot, of 123 receptions, set by Herman Moore in 1995 and Wes Welker in 2009.

Speaking of Wes Welker, he has 100 receptions on the season, his 5th season of 100+ receptions, which is a new NFL record.

Calvin Johnson has 1,667 receiving yards on the season and has let it be known that his gunning for Jerry Rice's single season yardage mark of 1,848 yards, set in 1995. C.J. needs 182 yards in the last 2 games (91 yards per game) to break that record. C.J. has also said he is aiming to be the 1st receiver to crack the 2,000 yard mark. C.J. needs 333 yards in the next 2 games (166.5 yards per game) to reach the 2,000 yard club. With the Lions out of playoff contention, and having a piss poor season, look for them to try hard to get Calvin Johnson those 2 milestones.

This isn't really a milestone, but the season Tony Gonzalez has should be noted. Dude is 36 years old and claims this is his last season. Tony G. has 87 receptions for 880 yards and 8 TDs this season....so he'll probably end up with over 100 receptions and 1,000+ yards on the season. His 1,236 career receptions for 14,218 yards and 103 career TDs are mind boggling. That makes him the 2nd all time leader in receptions, 7th all time in receiving yards, and 6th in receiving TDs. I know we crack on him because he doesn't have a playoff win, while Shannon Sharpe has 3 Super Bowl rings, but his career numbers, and production at the age of 36 years old should be recognized. I think Tony G. would be stupid not to return for a 17th season. He is relatively healthy and will have the rest of his life to do something else....may as well play another year if you're still capable of performing at a high level and enjoy it.

On a Denver related note, it would be nice to see Demaryius Thomas and Eric Decker both end up with 1,000+ receiving yard seasons with 10+ TDs. Denver has never had 2 receivers notch 1,000+ yards receiving and 10+ TDs in the same season. DMT has 78 receptions for 1,210 yards and 8 TDs. Eric Decker has 72 receptions for 923 yards and 9 TDs.

Peyton Manning is 347/511 (67.9%) for 4,016 yard and 31 TDs and 10 INTs.

The single season passing marks for the Denver Broncos are: completions (384 Jay Cutler in 2008), attempts (616 Jay Cutler in 2008), completion percentage (67.9% by Peyton Manning in 2012 with Brian Griese at 66.7% in 2002), 4,526 yards (Jay Cutler in 2008), and 31 TDs (31 TDs Peyton Manning in 2012). I look for Peyton Manning to break all of them this season, except the passing attempts mark, which is fine, as it means Denver starting running the ball well down the stretch run.

All purpose yards: Darren Sproles set the record with 2,696 all purpose yards in 2011. Randall Cobb has 2,241 all purpose yards with2 games left to play.

The single season sack mark of 22.5 was set by Michael Strahan in 2001. 3 players have a chance to reach that mark. J.J. Watt and Aldon Smith each have 19.5 sacks with 2 games to play. Von Miller has 16.0 sacks. Von Miller probably won't get there, but I'd love to see him reach the 20 sack mark.

The punting yards record in a season could fall as well. The record of 4,968 yards was set by Andy Lee in 2007. Dave Zastudil of Arizona has 4,546 punting yards with 2 games to play.

The forced fumbles in a season mark could be topped. Keep in mind, the record hasn't been closely tracked until the last 12 or so seasons, so I'm sure one of the old timers has topped this mark. Osi Umenyiora holds the record of 10 forced fumbles in 2010, but Charles Tillman has 10 forced fumbles this season to tie the record, with 2 games left to play.

If Calvin Johnson gets 214 yards receiving next week (he had 225 yards this week), he would end up with 2,106 yards receiving, which would best Eric Dickerson's single season rushing record of 2,105, set in 1984.

Of course, Adrian Peterson is going to be gunning for that record as well.

That gives him 1,898 yards on the season.

102 yards away from 2,000 yards, 208 yards away from breaking Eric Dickerson's record of 2,105 yards.

Records/Milestones (Updated):

Passing attempts: Drew Bledsoe owns the single season record of 691, set in 1994. Matt Stafford has 685 attempts, with 1 game left to play. With 7 attempts next week, Matthew Stafford will have the record.

Steven Jackson went over 10,000 career rushing yards a few weeks back. Jackson has 990 yards rushing on the season and only needs 10 yards next week to notch his 8th straight season of rushing for 1,000+ yards.

Adrian Peterson has 1,898 yards rushing on the season and is 102 yards away from 2,000 yards, and 208 yards away from breaking Eric Dickerson's record of 2,105 yards. Minnesota plays Green Bay next week.

Calvin Johnson (117) and Brandon Marshall (113) have a chance to finish the season with 2nd most receptions in a single season.

Calvin Johnson has 1,892 receiving yards on the season and passed Jerry Rice's single season mark of 1,848 yards, set in 1995. Calvin Johnson only needs 108 receiving yards to hit the 2,000 yard mark. The single season sack mark of 22.5 was set by Michael Strahan in 2001. 3 players have a chance to reach that mark. J.J. Watt had 1 sack today, to give him 20.5 sacks with 1 game left to play. I wanted to check to see if there is some kind of trend for playing well late in the season and winning the SB.

Going back to 2000 SB winners are 35-13 in December and 18-6 the last two games of the year.

The Saints are the only team to have a losing record in December and win the SB in that time frame. Only three teams have split the month and won the SB. The Packers, Colts and Giants. Packers and Giants got hot and the Colts wanted to rest their starters.

Basically playing well in December can be one indicator of being a SB team.

The Bears cut second-year wide receiver Dane Sanzenbacher, who played in five games this season. He had one reception for seven yards.

Sanzenbacher, an undrafted free agent from Ohio State in 2011, led all Bears wide receivers with three touchdown catches as a rookie in 2011. He was Cutler’s go-to receiver after Earl Bennett was injured, catching 19 passes for 166 yards and three touchdowns in six games.

But his playing time diminished once Bennett returned, and he finished his rookie year with 27 receptions for 276 yards.

He'd the kind of guy Peyton Manning could count on in the slot, as Brandon Stokley can't play forever and needs to be use on a limited basis.

Yes....I wouldn't exactly call the Bears one of the more competent teams in terms of offensive team roster evaluation, look at the offensive line they've assembled.

Besides, do you really see Matthew Willis as being a valuable asset?

Name a few plays in particular that have given you this notion.

I see him as a player on the roster begging for an upgrade to be brought in.

I'm not saying signing Dane Sanzenbacher would be a roster shattering, difference making move. I'm saying I think it would be one of those in season shrewd moves that John Elway and company have made this season that would be a minor upgrade on the roster.

If they don't do it this season, as it's probably a little late to bring him in and get him acclimated to the offense in such a short time frame, they should sign him when the season is over if nobody has claimed him.

Sanzenbacher is the kind if of player who would attach himself at the hip to Peyton Manning in the offseason and get on the same page with and come into training camp and have some chemistry and cohesiveness right off the bat.

The staff can game plan for a full week around Terrelle Pryor and then see what he can do.

I bet he plays a little better than most people think he will.

Pryor will make some mistakes I'm sure, but I bet he makes a few big plays as well.

From what I've been hearing, Oakland might void the final 2 years of Palmer's contract and look in another direction next season.

All I saw out of Pryor when they played him a couple series vs kFc was dinking and dunking. I don't see this guy as a legit NFL QB. I wonder if Oakland doesn't keep Palmer one more year and try to find 2 more QB's.

Hard to judge a QB on his first few series playing in the NFL.

Not saying Terrelle Pryor is going to be awesome or anything, but that is a fairly small sample size.

Carson Palmer hasn't been the same QB between when Kimo von Oelhoffen of the Steelers blew up his knee in the 2005 playoffs and then the 2008 elbow injury that sidelined him for most of the season.

Palmer can still sling it around the yard, but since the injuries he's gotten happy feet any time there is any activity around his legs. He turns the ball over a lot. His arrival in Oakland certainly hasn't resulted in a lot of wins.

Mike Brown should have been arrested for robbery for getting all the draft picks he did out of that deal.

Back to Terrelle Pryor....at least he is the one QB on their roster that has the ability to pull the ball down and make a play on his own with his feet. If the other offensive players are on the same page as Pryor he might be able to parlay that athletic ability into some big plays.

Carson hasn't had much of a team around him.

The NFL is a QB driven league....if Carson were anything above average these days, Oakland would be better than 4-11.

Everyone said Indianapolis had no talent last season when they were 2-14.

The season before they were 10-6 with Peyton Manning slinging the rock and this season they are 10-5 with Andrew Luck.

Carson Palmer has over 4,000 yards passing this season, but he's been a stat accumulator in Oakland....a lot of yardage in the 4th quarters of blowout losses.

Palmer has turned the ball over 19 times (14 INTs and 5 lost fumbles) this season.

He's due a base salary of $13 million next season.

Since he's been in Oakland he has 35 TD passes and 30 INTs with 6 lost fumbles....more turnovers than TDs is never a good thing.

I will admit that Oakland is thin talent wise, but a good to great QB raises the level of play of those around him.

Having Manning this year after all the disappointing seasons preceding his arrival has really brought home the value of an elite QB. Of course it has always been the most important position but in todays game I don't think you can win a championship without one.

I don't think there will be a Trent Dilfer type QB winning the super bowl ever again.

I would argue that the 8-8 record was a huge overachievement for that team as well. How many miraculous finishes did we have that required an onside recovery, a running back running out of bounds when all he needed to do was stay in bounds to run out the clock, etc. to get to that record?

Last year's team was a mirage like the 2008 team that had a negative point differential, neither team was truly an 8-8 team, they just got lucky.

This team without Manning could easily be a sub-500 team depending on who ended up at QB. The defense wouldn't have as many chances to tee-off and rush the QB (affecting both sacks and turnovers) and the offense clearly wouldn't be as good.

With how turnovers have worked this season, we have been UNlucky this year (which seems to have turned around somewhat) and still sit at 12-3 with a shot at the #1 seed.

Any team could be sub .500 depending on the QB.

I was responding to the idea that since we were 8-8 last year with Tebow, that was the bar and we are maybe +5 wins from that team.

I think that last year was a huge, miraculous fluke and that the team was more realistically a 5-win or less team had they not had everything bounce their way at the end of their wins. So the idea that Manning only improved this team from 8 to 12-13 wins is somewhat inaccurate.

This is also the argument that I feel makes Manning more valuable to the Broncos than AP to the vikings.

Report: Browns will fire Shurmur, Heckert after Sunday’s game

SouthStndJunkie
12-31-2012, 10:48 AM
Records/Milestones after Week 17:

Passing attempts: Drew Bledsoe owned the single season record of 691, set in 1994. Matt Stafford passed him up on Sunday and ended up with 727 passing attempts and now owns the single season record.

Steven Jackson went over 10,000 career rushing yards a few weeks back. Jackson ended up with 1,042 yards rushing, giving him 8 straight seasons with over 1,000 yards rushing.

Adrian Peterson broke the 2,000 yard barrier and ended up with 2,097 yards rushing, falling 9 yards short of breaking Eric Dickerson's single season rushing record.

Calvin Johnson (122), Brandon Marshall (118), and Wes Welker (118) had a chance to finish the season with 2nd most receptions in a single season. Marvin Harrison's all time record of 143 receptions, set in 2002, is still intact, as is the 2nd spot, of 123 receptions, set by Herman Moore in 1995 and Wes Welker in 2009.

Speaking of Wes Welker, he had 118 receptions on the season, his 5th season of 100+ receptions, which is a new NFL record.

Calvin Johnson finished the season with 1,964 receiving yards on the season and passed Jerry Rice's single season mark of 1,848 yards, set in 1995. Calvin Johnson missed being the first WR to break 2,000 receiving yards in a single season by 36 yards.

Demaryius Thomas and Eric Decker both ended up with 1,000+ receiving yard seasons with 10+ TDs. Denver had never had 2 receivers notch 1,000+ yards receiving and 10+ TDs in the same season. DMT finished up with 94 receptions for 1,434 yards yards and 10 TDs. Eric Decker finished up with 85 receptions for 1,064 yards and 13 TDs.

Peyton Manning finished the season with these stats: 400/583 (68.6%) for 4,659 yards with 37 TDs and 11 INTs.

Peyton Manning broke the single season team records for all the major passing categories except passing attempts. Jay Cutler still owns that record with 616 passing attempts in 2008.

All purpose yards: Darren Sproles set the record with 2,696 all purpose yards in 2011. Randall Cobb had 2,342 all purpose yards with 1 game left to play. Cobb was injured and missed Green Bay's last game, so Sproles will keep the record.

The single season sack mark of 22.5 was set by Michael Strahan in 2001. 3 players had a chance to reach that mark. J.J. Watt finished the season with 20.5 sacks, Aldon Smith finished the season with 19.5 sacks, and Von Miller finished the season with 18.5 sacks, which broke the single season franchise record of 17.0 sacks, set by Elvis Dumervil in 2009.

The punting yards record in a season was broken this season. The record of 4,968 yards was set by Andy Lee in 2007. Dave Zastudil broke the record with 5,209 punting yards this season. Dave Zastudil also broke the single season punting record for most punts downed inside the 20 yard line with 46 punts.

The forced fumbles in a season mark was tied, but not broken. Keep in mind, the record hasn't been closely tracked until the last 12 or so seasons, so I'm sure one of the old timers has topped this mark. Osi Umenyiora held the record of 10 forced fumbles in 2010, but Charles Tillman forced fumbles this season to tie the record.

Pittsburgh Steelers waive Chris Rainey after arrest

Pittsburgh Steelers running back Chris Rainey was arrested Thursday morning and charged with one count of simple battery (dating violence), the Gainesville, Fla., police department confirmed.

The Steelers later announced they have waived Rainey.

The police received a call at 8:26 am ET about a verbal altercation between Rainey and his girlfriend that turned physical. Rainey also went to school in Gainesville at the University of Florida.

"Witnesses told officers that Rainey and the victim got into an argument over Rainey's cellphone. The female victim entered the vehicle of Rainey's roommate, and Rainey confronted her on the passenger side of the vehicle, and began pulling her out of the vehicle," the statement read. "Witnesses then observed Rainey slap the victim across the face with an open hand.

"Both Rainey and the female victim then fell to the ground. The victim was able to run away, but Rainey chased after her because his cellphone was in a bag the victim was carrying. Rainey grabbed the bag again and they both fell to the ground again. Neither party suffered visible injuries from the encounter. Multiple witnesses confirmed the incident."

Rainey denied hitting the victim at the scene of the crime. He remains in custody.

"He did admit to some of the altercation. He admitted he grabbed her bag, which caused both of them to fall and he admitted to chasing her. He denied slapping her, but we had several witnesses to that," Gainesville police public information officer Ben Tobias said in a telephone interview.

This is not the first arrest for Rainey, who pleaded guilty to to misdemeanor stalking while at Florida. Another Steelers rookie, Alameda Ta'amu was also arrested on 18 charges following a wild, drunk car chase earlier in the season.
