For now.

Now THAT would be a good decision on his part.

I mean... if you can't stop yourself from building up a good .24 BAL and getting behind the wheel, quitting booze is the logical next step.

HOUSTON -- The Houston Texans announced contract extensions Thursday for general manager Rick Smith and coach Gary Kubiak, rewarding them for taking the team to the playoffs last year for the first time.

Texans owner Bob McNair wanted to maintain continuity with both men in the final years of their current contracts. Smith's extension is for four years, which will keep him with the team through 2016. Kubiak's is a three-year agreement which re-does the last year of his current deal and keeps him under contract through 2014.

A Nevada jury has found Bengals cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones responsible for the injuries suffered by two strip club security guards in a Las Vegas shooting in 2007 and ordered Jones to pay $11.6 million to them and to one of their wives.

Thomas Urbanski, who has been paralyzed from the waist down since he was shot, was awarded $9.6 million, according to TMZ. Urbanski’s wife was awarded $750,000 for loss of marital relations. The other security guard, Aaron Cudworth, was awarded $1.3 million.

Pacman is still playing in the NFL for the Bengals.

They will probably try and take or negotiate a certain percentage of his salary that will be taken out to start and pay this money that he owes.

As long as he is making some money and playing in the NFL, he will probably always get a certain percentage of it deducted for this lawsuit.

They will most likely never see all $11.65 million of it.

Yep....I root for Kubes to do well and hope he wins a Super Bowl with the Texans at some point to reward them for showing some patience while he was trying to put together a defense to match his offense.

The fat man, Wade Phillips, is an average head coach, but is one of the best defensive coordinators in the business and is a perfect fit in Houston.

Phillips is a native Texan (as is Kubes). There were/are a lot of chess pieces for Phillips to play with there. I'm sure he will be satisfied and has come to the realization that he is best suited as a defensive coordinator and this is a great place for him to be. I think being the head coach of the Cowboys burnt him out and took a toll on him.

This gig is a lot less stress and he doesn't have to answer to a prick like Jerry Jones.

I don't think moving it into the Ring of Fame section would be a good idea though, as it would get lost and not read and commented on nearly as much as it is here on the general forum.

If he makes money playing football, and they have a judgement, the garnishing of his wages could happen as soon as this yr. What makes you think he can avoid paying? He can appeal, but those don't take yrs and yrs in civil court. Now if a guy hides money, says he has none, doesn't have any etc etc then its tough. But a guy getting a fat game check every week they can find that easy.

“I think (Winslow) feels like he’s been given a breath of fresh air (in Seattle),” the observer said. “He lives in San Diego, and he seems to like it here. Another factor with him is that he just happened to have three monster games against the Seahawks (including a 7-98 receiving day with two TDs in his most recent game vs. Seattle in Week 16 of the 2010 season). When you consider all he cost was a seventh-round pick (that could be upgraded to a sixth-rounder), all you can say is, ‘wow!’ "

I could see doing away with the 4:05s entirely and just going with 4:15 starts across the board. But leaving the 4:05s alone and moving back the only the LATER start time games? I just don't get it. If there's overlap, it's going to happen with the 4:05 games before it happens with the 4:15 games.

Interesting question to ponder during the slow time of the football year.

Abraham has 112.0 career sacks (6 years of 10+ sacks).

The 112.0 sacks places him 16th on the all-time list (Sacks stat has only been kept since 1982).

When I evaluate pass rushers, I love to look at forced fumbles. Abraham has 38 forced fumbles for his career....a nice number, but not an eye popping number of forced fumbles for being in the league 12 years.

Abraham has never led the league in sacks and has been in the top five twice during his 12 year career.

Abraham is 34 years old....even with a few more years of decent sack numbers, I don't think he will make the Hall of Fame.

A very good player and a tenacious pass rusher, but I don't think of him as the elite of the elite, which is what you need for admission to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

A defensive end who is on his way to the Hall of Fame is Jared Allen.

Kansas City was foolish to trade away a Hall of Famer entering his prime years.

Jared Allen had 22 sacks last year....a half sack away from the all-time record.

He has 105.0 sacks, 26 forced fumbles, 16 fumble recoveries, and 5 INTs in 8 years.

Seasons of 22 sacks, 15.5 sacks, 14.5 sacks, 14.5 sacks, 11.0 sacks, 11.0 sacks, 9.0 sacks, and 7.5 sacks.

Plus, he is an all around defensive player, who plays the run well and will pick of an occasional pass.

Jared Allen turned 30 earlier in the year....he could very easily challenge the all-time sack mark of 200.0 sacks, held by Bruce Smith.

hmm makes you think if peyton was a bit of a overpay or brees sold himself a bit short

they just gave Brees $40m for one year. One year. They will probably give him $20m in year two, and then the rest over the remainder of the contract. $60m in two years is huge. Manning will be getting around $40m in two years with the Broncos.

Without trading Allen KFC wouldn't that dude who has his job now, what ever his name is.

Trading Allen landed us Branden Albert and Jamaal Charles, and got rid of Carl Peterson because the team sucked ass so bad the year after.

I'm cool with the Allen trade in hindsight, especially because we have a great pass rusher in Hali and what is looking to be another good one Justin Houston.

According to MyFoxdfw.com, the NFL superstar was arrested in DeSoto, TX and is facing a Class A family violence charge ... however the details surrounding the arrest are unclear.

Law enforcement tells us 23-year-old Bryant is not currently in custody.

When contacted by a local media outlet, Bryant confirmed there was an incident ... but wouldn't get into specifics. He did say, "I'm good."

This isn't Bryant's first brush with the law ... earlier this year, he was detained by Miami police after he was allegedly involved in an altercation outside LIV nightclub ... but he was not arrested and no police report was filed.

Per Burger Bill...I'm glad KC drafted Poe even more now.

The news is not as good in Kansas City. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Chiefs and Dontari Poe are “not close” to a contract. The Chiefs report to camp Thursday.

In the world of NFL contracts, two days is a long time, especially when deadlines are involved. Both Poe and the team know how important it is for him to be signed in time. Because of the new CBA, there really is no excuse for any rookie not to be signed. If Poe is not with the Chiefs when they begin practice later this week, it will be a mark on both the team and Poe.

The only other two rookies who are unsigned are Oakland guard Tony Bergstrom (third) and receiver Juron Criner (fifth). The Raiders open camp Monday.

I doubt it. Not that many runningbacks manage to go through an entire season without missing a game, but with McFadden it's especially problematic.

I took a load of sh!t on Raider forums for suggesting that we trade him for some high draft picks (if it was even possible) and go to the utility RB system that's becoming the norm in the NFL now. That way one guy's injury isn't such a blow to the team. Oh well.

When he's healthy he's one of the best in the league so hopefully for us he manages to hold up better this year than any before.

I saw this on NFLN and was really surprised. Felix Jones is Jerry's hand-picked guy. DeMarco Murray is the way to go, but will ego play a part? Will this hurt Jerry's shot at the glory hole?!?!??!?

Smart move by the Titans.

Matt Hasselbeck had a nice year last year with Tennessee, but they drafted Jake Locker 8th overall in the 2011 NFL Draft and if he looks good, then it's time to get him in there to cut his teeth.

Hasselbeck won't be happy about it, but he will be 37 this year and can step in if Locker falters or gets injured.

Terrell Owens is a freak of nature from a physical standpoint.

It doesn't surprise me that he can run a sub 4.5 40 time.

I don't doubt he is capable of coming in and producing 60 receptions for 800 yards and 8-10 TDs if given the opportunity.

A lot of team's don't need the distraction, but I think at this point in his career, Terrell Owens needs the job and needs the money, so he will keep his mouth shut and not be as much of a distraction as teams think he will be.

Cleveland Browns running back Trent Richardson is tentatively scheduled to have arthroscopic surgery Thursday to remove a "hang nail particle" of loose cartilage that is irritating his left knee, but the rookie is expected to return before the regular-season opener, according to sources.

The small particle, which has caused swelling, will be "cleaned up" by Dr. James Andrews after it was detected in an MRI. Dr. Andrews will do a final evaluation before he is expected to perform the minor surgery.

I was shocked when he went undrafted in the 2010 NFL Draft.

He was a great player at Toledo and then stuck around on the Cowboys roster for the last 2 years, doing pretty well when given the opportunity.

Benson is a career dumbass who probably wasn't even on AJ Smith's radar. I think he's sick and tired of all the ones we've had here for the past several years.

And I think they feel confident they can roll with Brown, McClain and Hester for 3-4 games.

Do you guys have McClain slimmed down so he can play tailback, or bulked up to play fullback? I loved him at tailback when the Ravens used him that way. I don't understand why he hasn't gotten another chance since then. I hope you guys aren't counting on Mathews to somehow stay healthy the rest of the season after he gets back, and I don't know how much Ronnie Brown has left.

Weeden looking pretty good. He has crap for wide receivers.

Ryan looked good, and had wonderful stats 18 of 21 for 124 yards 1td

Dalton to Green is here to stay. 50 yard TD pass and catch.

SOME of his takes are half way decent. It makes me think he says alot of crap just for reaction. You never know though.

I think it is a real take, I'm mean a few years ago he thought Croyle would be better then Flacco.

Most likely so. How bored are people on this board that he has managed to string them along now almost 8 pages into that Poe thread? It'll most likely turn out to be a very bad pick. End of story. Yet the thread keeps going and going. Amazing.

I think McClain is how he's always been. He can play either position well. The thing with guys like him or Tolbert is that they're just not explosive enough to be a feature back.

Ronnie Brown as a backup should be just fine. He might even be fine carrying the full load. He's getting a lot of praise for how well he looks so far.

Tony Gonzalez says this will be his last season playing in the NFL.

Statistically he is the best TE of all time, but the dude has never won a playoff game.

I'd rather have Shannon Sharpe's career with some gaudy numbers, 3 Super Bowl rings and also make the Hall of Fame than own all of the tight end receiving records without ever winning a playoff game.

That said, Tony Gonzalez has some insane numbers and he is still producing while getting ready to start his 16th season.

Right now Tony Gonzalez has: 1,149 receptions for 13,338 yards and 95 TDs.

He will most likely end up with over 1,200 receptions for over 14,000 yards and over 100 TDs.

The 1,149 receptions rank 2nd all time for all players, behind only Jerry Rice.

Pretty awesome stats when you think about it, but I'd still take Shannon Sharpe's career over Tony G's.

I don't know, man. I thought he was a great signing in Philly last year and I had wished the Broncos had gotten him. But he was terrible. Just awful and the fans here hated him. In addition to mediocre to poor play he made a stupid mental mistake that cost the team a game. They couldn't wait to get him out of here. He was so bad they tried to dump him during the season but the trade fell through when the guy the got failed his physical.

He was a bad fit in Philly's offense. I can see him doing good (not great) in Norv's offense.

He was good 5 years ago. Only his rookie year and the year after. He was never the same after knee injury kind of like Cadillac Williams.

NFL.com says that Dwayne Bowe signed his tender.

There was never much of a question about whether Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Dwayne Bowe would sign his $9.5 million franchise tag tender. The only question was when.

That was answered Friday when the Chiefs announced that Bowe signed on the dotted line.

The timing is very logical. The Chiefs just wrapped up training camp, which any veteran is happy to avoid. Bowe still has more than three weeks to get ready for the season opener. Kansas City has a new offensive system this year under coordinator Brian Daboll, but it shares many of the characteristics from the Charlie Weis days in Kansas City.

Like most holdouts, this one caused a lot of unnecessary chatter. He was always going to show up. We doubt he'll get the gigantic contract he's looking for in Kansas City, so he's playing for a contract once again in 2012 for one of our favorite sleeper teams.

His years in Miami were good (not great). *shrug*

I think teams catching on to the Wildcat hurt his effectiveness as well. And don't forget that Ricky Williams guy he was splitting carries with. I'd like to see what he can do in Norv's offense before I write him off.

He's a proven RB who is now a backup and will have to carry the load for a couple of games (possibly). What's the big deal? Not that this is a running team anyway.

Your right he was very average. His 1 1000 yd season was it. He has been very Slowshon Moreno like.

He would have signed sooner but he kept dropping his pen
