...mortgaging the future and trading a bunch of picks for Lito Sheppard and a receiver like Houshmanzadeh in the offseason?
Trading for a legit WR2 is completely out of the question, I'll concede that, but I just kinda want to get rid of the first before Shanny panics and wastes it on an RB after Torain flops and it's proven that we're just done getting away with a committee of average backs. Need a DT in the first round of the draft.
But Sheppard could come for a fourth rounder and the team could convince Dre Bly that Lito's just a tourniquet for Champ aging and then convince Dre he's best as a nickel corner and then eventually just hope Dre doesn't notice when he's not ever playing. Man, that'd be sweet.
All the gomers that think this is karma for trading Foxworth need to check themselves. He's a good societal guy, good off the field, but he can't even crack the rotation in Atlanta. The have a rookie and an undrafted guy starting back there in front of him.
I'm also not going to harp on the "Should have kept Jake" thing because that guy was a flake, but the Broncos had (still have) the easiest schedule in the AFC and I was penciling in 11-5 ASSUMING the defense would suck even worse than it does and ASSUMING Royal wouldn't emerge as a serviceable receiver right away (which he more than has).
But foot-in-mouth emo bangs McInsulin seems content on proving that as long as he submits to Marshall and throws into triple coverage and cries on the end of the bench.. as long as that happens, 7-9 is always within reach. Imagine how much better the D would look if Cutler could run an offense that stayed on the field for a few minutes at a time (http://www.sportsline.com/nfl/stats/teamsort/NFL/OFF-TOTAL/2008/regular?sort_col_1=15&_1:col_1=15).
A completely decimated Chargers team isn't really going to win the division, is it? Not that the acclaim (or lack thereof) that comes with a 10-6 division crown is even worth touting into the playoffs.
